Legendary mridangam maestro Guru Karaikudi Mani leads a stellar percussion ensemble in Bhoomija’s next! Widely regarded as one of the greatest mridangists of all time, Guru Karaikudi Mani will enthrall audiences in an evening of flawless rhythm, accompanied by an ensemble of Bangalore percussionists par excellence - Bangalore Amrith (Khanjira), Giridhar Udupa (Ghatam) and Pramath Kiran (Morsing). A musical must-see for all Carnatic connoisseurs! About the Artistes: Guru Karaikudi Mani Initiated into the world of Carnatic music at the tender age of 3, Guru Karaikudi Mani is, today, one of the cultural ambassadors of the country. A student of Carnatic Music greats Karaikudi Sri Rangu Iyengar, Sri T R Harihara Sharma and Sri K M Vaidyanathan, Guru Karaikudi Mani received his first national-level honours in 1963, at the age of 18, from then President of India Dr. Radhakrishnan, going on to win the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy award in 1998. Largely credited with bringing the mridangam to the global stage and shining a spotlight on it, Guru Karaikudi Mani’s contributions and innovations in mridangam playing lead to several national and international collaborations, as well as his very own Bani (style). Founder of the Sruthilaya percussion ensemble, Guru Karaikudi Mani also formed the Sruthi Laya Seva Trust, Sruthi Laya Kendra, and the Sruthi Laya Kendra Natarajaalaya - premier institutions devoted to music and musicians with branches around the world. Bangalore Amrit Regarded as the ‘Brand Ambassador of Khanjira’, Bangalore Amrit Nataraj’s foray into classical music began at the young age of 5. The son of Virtuoso Violonist Vidwan sri Basavanagudi G Nataraj, Amrit studied the mridangam under Vidwan Sri M Vasudeva Rao and Vidwan Sri A V Anand, before going on to learn the Khanjira from the Khanjira Maestro himself, Vidwan Sri G Harishankar. The youngest Khanjira artiste to receive the All India Radio ‘A-Top Grade’, Amrit’s concerts are beloved by audiences for the speed, versatility, intricate patterns, grace and beauty of his Khanjira playing. Decorated with various titles for his music, such as ‘Khanjira Praveena’, ‘Yuva Kala Bhaarati’, ‘Lalithakala Suma’, and ‘Layaprathibhamani’, to name a few, Amrit also has collaborations with several renowned musicians to his credit, including working with Oscar winner A R Rahman. Giridhar Udupa A frequent feature in prestigious sabhas and concerts both national and international, Giridhar Udupa is synonymous with the ghatam! His journey started at the age of 4 under the tutelage of his father, Vidwan Ullur Nagendra Udupa, further blossoming under Vidhushi Sukkanya Ramgopal and Vidwan V Suresh. Three decades of path-breaking collaborations with artistes around the world, several successful concerts in over 50 countries (including being one of the few Indian musicians to perform at the United Nations), and many awards and titles for his contributions to music, Giridhar Udupa has become a much-loved name and a global icon for the ghatam and Carnatic Classical Music. He is also the founder and director of ‘The Udupa Foundation’. Pramath Kiran Hailing from a family of art connoisseurs, it was only natural that Pramath Kiran’s musical journey, as well as a career in classical music, started at a very young age. A student of tabla maestro Pt. Udayraj Karpur, Pramath Kiran was later trained by Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma in the art of playing the Morching. A career rich in collaborations with many world-renowned artistes, mastery over several world percussion instruments, tours across several countries, and various honours, Pramath Kiran’s musical signature lies in his flawless blending of traditional intricate playing styles and modern accompaniment techniques, and the incorporation of world music styles into Carnatic music. He is the founder of Layatharanga (among India’s leading world music bands), a member of Chakrafonics, and the Laya Digi music recording studio.
World-renowned Mridangam maestro Guru Karaikudi Mani will lead a percussion ensemble in concert. The ensemble features prominent Carnatic musicians Bangalore Amrit (Khanjira), Giridhar Udupa (Ghatam) and Pramath Kiran (Morsing). The concert will take place at 7 PM on Sat, 30 Apr 2022 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Regarded as one of the best Mridangists of all time, Vidwan Guru Karaikudi Mani has largely been responsible for taking the mridangam to the global stage and introducing it as a solo instrument in its own right. A student of Carnatic music greats Karaikudi Sri Rangu Iyengar, Sri T R Harihara Sharma and Sri K M Vaidyanathan, he revolutionized the Carnatic music field with his ‘Thani Avarthanam’ concerts – a concept followed by many percussionists today. In addition to a Sangeet Natak Academy Award and several national-level accolades, Guru Karaikudi Mani also has a Bani (style) inspired by his style of playing the Mridangam. Bangalore Amrit Nataraj (Khanjira) studied under Vidwan Sri M Vasudeva Rao (Mridangam), Sri A V Anand (Mridangam), and Vidwan Sri G Harishankar (Khanjira). The youngest Khanjira artiste to receive the All India Radio ‘A-Top Grade’, he has many noted collaborations to his credit, including working with Oscar winner A R Rahman. His achievements in Khanjira-playing have earned him the title ‘Brand Ambassador of Khanjira’. Giridhar Udupa’s (Ghatam) journey into Carnatic music started under the tutelage of his father, Vidwan Ullur Nagendra Udupa, and continued under Vidhushi Sukkanya Ramgopal and Vidwan V Suresh. In a career spanning over three decades, Giridhar Udupa has performed in over 50 countries and collaborated with several artistes around the world. Pramath Kiran (Morsing) is a student of maestros Pt. Udayraj Karpur (Tabla) and Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma (Morsing). If there is a synonym for grandeur and extravaganza that would be Bhramini - Abhishek's wedding! Look at their wedding pictures and you know they are visual treat for your eyes. They both stole the show with their custom made outfits and jewellery. Bhramini is a sweet, talented girl and we are as impressed with her interesting career as much as her wedding pictures. She is a jewellery designer and a gemologist from Bangalore, studied at GIA NYC. She has her own line of jewellery which she is retailing under her name. And that is not all! She also works for theopentrunk.com as a jewellery design head. Interesting huh?? Have you ever wondered how the jewellery designers make their pieces extra special and unique for their own big day?! Let's hear it from her. Tell us about your groom and how it happened?? My husband Abhishek is also from Bangalore. He has his own business which is construction and also Brick & Tiles. Ours was an arranged marriage; we met through our family connections. We were both nervous at the beginning but as we got to know each other over a period of time, we were really excited and we're looking forward to starting our life together. Tell us about your wedding shopping? My entire wedding trousseau was custom made. My mom played a major role in designing my clothes. She has always been passionate about dressing and styling people for many occasions. So the half saree for my engagement, Pellikuthuru was designed by her and a friend. For the Pellikuthuru, I wore a green half saree which I teamed up with a mustard blouse and an orange dupatta. I decided not to go with any embroidery on it because the fabric itself was rich and beautiful. My Mehndi outfit was designed by my good friend Anjali Sharma. The Sangeet outfit was by Sabyasachi and My reception Lehenga was custom made by Manish Malhotra. The wedding saree was from Tulsi Silks, the blouse and embroidery was again designed by my mom and her friend. Tell us about your most interesting part, jewellery? All my jewellery was made to order. Since I am a jewellery designer myself and I got it customised for each outfit. Pellikoothru: The green half saree I mentioned before and for the jewellery, I decided to go all gold - Naksh. This is one of my favourite looks and I decided to do it for my Pellikoothru. Hair and makeup done by Zohrain. Mehndi: I wore an onion pink Lehenga designed by Anjali Sharma. She teamed the Lehenga up with a lovely blouse embellished with crystals. I chose a rose cut diamond neck piece and Earrings to go with this outfit. Hair and makeup was done by Zohrain. Pre wedding/ Lagnam : I wore a yellow and pink Kanchi saree and teamed it up with an orange blouse. I decided to go with antique jewellery for this look. Although the designs can be considered common each jewellery piece has the best Burmese rubies, Columbian emeralds and Golconda Diamonds. Quality of jewellery is something that I would never like to compromise on. Hair and make is by Zohrain. Photography done by @minchu# studio. Wedding: This day was something that I had always dreamt of and I wanted it to be perfect. It took me a really time to curate this look. Getting the perfect saree teaming it up with the right jewellery is always a task. My saree was from Tulsi silks. For my jewellery I decided to go with uncut. Because I wanted that Royal look on my wedding I decided to go with a mix of uncut and antique jewellery. Hair and makeup by Sandy Artistry. Photography by Lucky Malhotra & Joseph Radhik Sangeet Outfit was by Sabyasachi Jewellery by Farah Khan Ali Hair and makeup by Salman Raza Photography by Lucky Malhotra Reception: Outfit by Manish Malhotra. Since I love emeralds, I decided to do a look with only emeralds and both uncut and full cut diamonds. Hair and makeup by Zohrain. Shoes that I wore for these events were Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin. Any tips to the future brides? For the wedding, I didn't really follow any diet or a skincare regime. Just drank lot of juice and ate at the right time. For all the soon to be brides I would like to say is that the entire journey will be stressful. Just stay calm throughout the whole process, there are always alternatives if things don't really work out your way. Always be prepared much ahead of time especially with your jewellery and outfits. Be happy and make the most of it because moments like these will never come back. Tell us about the groom's trousseau? My husband likes his outfits to be custom-made; he doesn't like to pick things off the rack. So his entire trousseau was custom made by Paresh Lamba.
