More details at: https://www.henning-kleist.com Finished 3D model of a fictional battle crown of emperor Frederick Barbarossa. Frederick I (called "Barbarossa" = Red Beard), king of Germany and Holy Roman Emperor led the 3rd crusade to the Holy Land in 1190 AD before meeting an untimely death by drowning. I imagined a crown a high medieval emperor might have worn for a campaign like the 3rd crusade which also other prominent kings of Europe (Richard the Lionheart of England and Phillip II Augustus of France) took part in. The crown is modelled after similar surviving burial crowns of the Salian imperial dynasty (11th-12th century), although being unique in design. It's made entirely of gilded copper to be both light and durable while underlining the grandeur of the wearer's imperial status. The words engraved into the circlet summarise Barbarossa's political program: "Honor Imperii" (for the honour of the empire) and "Gloria Dei" (for the glory of god) which he put above everything else. The crown is meant as an asset in a future project I hope to finish one day depicting the popular German legend of the emperor sleeping beneath the mountains. The Model was done using both 3ds Max and Zbrush.
