Bliss Castle was a horse stable and observatory tower built by a wealthy manufacturer named Eliphalet W. Bliss at the high point of his estate, the land that is now Owl's Head Park (It used to be known as Bliss Park). When Bliss died in 1903 his will stipulated that the property could be sold to New York City at less than market prices as long as it was used for parkland, and in in 1928 the Bliss Estate was formally designated a public park. I imagine there were nice views of Lower Manhattan, Jersey, and Staten Island from the top of the tower. What a cool structure it was. A place for dreamers. I wish it was still there! The handwritten text on the left side of the card says, "Dear Old Brooklyn Navy". Perhaps referring to the Brooklyn Naval Yard which would be visible from the castle. Another view of the castle, less romantic, can be seen here.
