Beachcomber's Necklace Stone and glass combine to create this casual modern necklace. The stones I used are both from beaches in Northern England. The elongated beach stone pairs perfectly with the translucent green sea glass pebble. Both stones are set in fine silver with solid silver backs. The stone settings connect to a thick sterling wire frame. A chocolate brown 1/8" wide deerskin leather cord completes this composition. The pendant measures about 2-1/4" tall (bottom of pendant to top of bail stem). It is about 1-3/4" wide. The cording measures about 12" on each side. A sterling ferrule allows for shorter adjustments to the length. The bail will allow the wearer to use other chains or cords of varying thicknesses. Three small pieces of sea glass have been drilled and hung from a sterling silver bar and chain. A perfect gift for any beach lover! The finished necklace size is 18 inches. All of the sea glass that I use in my jewelry are genuine pieces that have been naturally smoothed and frosted by the sea. A BIT OF HISTORY All of my sea glass is genuine and carefully hand selected to be turned into beautiful jewelry. These pieces of sea glass were collected from the shore of Seaham, England. The sea glass at Seaham is over 100 years old! There were glass producing factories along the coast of Seaham during the late 1800's. At the end of every day the glass factory would pour the waste glass into the sea. The glass that was poured into the sea has been naturally tossed by the waves over the years and smoothed by the rocks. The factory closed in 1921 but the sea glass still continues to wash up on the beach. THE PROCESS 1. Sea glass is hand picked off the beach shore 2. The pieces are washed, oiled and sorted 3. Then it is hand selected to be turned into beautiful jewelry 4. Sterling silver or rose gold is cut, hammered, soldered and polished for a bezel or it is drilled for a bail 5. The new piece of jewelry is photographed and listed 6. It is packaged and shipped out to its new owner CARE To keep your jewelry in the best condition, I have included a polishing cloth to clean the sterling silver. You can rub a dab of baby oil on the sea glass to keep it shining. A few weeks ago I received an email from a bride who was looking for some sea glass jewelry to give as gifts to her bridesmaids. She was having a destination beach wedding and looking for a variety of greens and blues. I photographed a pinwheel of sea glass pendants, similar to this, and we discussed them as though they were numbers on a clock. She picked the ones she liked and I replaced others until we had a nice selection of sea glass for the wedding. This was our second-to-last set. There is one more that was not in this photograph. It was challenging to find 12 pieces that were reasonably similar in shape, size, color, thickness and that were smooth enough to be jewelry quality. I had to dig deep in my collection, then my mother's collection, and then my father and step mother's collection. I wrapped them in the same gauge of wire and finished each pendant with a single Swarovski crystal. It is a little nerve wracking to create jewelry for somebody's wedding, but they were happy with the results... I am planning to add more bridal jewelry and accessories to my Etsy shop for the spring, however custom orders are always welcome!
