A charming cottage with warming interiors and a quintesential countryside feel in the heart of idyllic Ramsden.
As a new family of four, we spent a long weekend in the Cotswolds, on a bucket list stay at one of the cottages at Daylesford Farm.
Having found this tiny cottage in Oxfordshire five years ago, Victoria Barker has reversed the effects of a characterless renovation to create an irresistibly pretty interior
Home Kitchens Classic In-Frame Shaker Kitchen 72, Wimbledon SW18 Classic In-Frame Shaker Kitchen 72, Wimbledon SW18 When entering this kitchen you can’t help but be impressed by the huge amount of natural light that’s achieved from the large triple panel skylight paired with ceiling-high windows. This kitchen design is full of character and you will see why when looking at the photos of every angle. It’s an advantage that there is so much natural light in this property as it shows off the beautiful craftsmanship we’ve achieved on these cabinets. This is a truly unique style of shaker kitchen cabinetry that we’ve designed and manufactured for this client and we loved helping bring their vision to reality. The client was looking for a truly bespoke kitchen which is why they went with this plain fronted in-frame shaker style kitchen which features some unique shaker styling. We hand-painted the cabinetry with the deep, dark greens of Farrow & Ball’s ‘Studio Green’ paint which we think really makes the detailed craftsmanship stand out and matches beautifully with the made to order Armac Martin handles. Client’s brief – they didn’t want a traditional detail but more of a minimalist step detail to the centre frame. This was achieved with a square edge centre moulding which is a more modern take. The island is a real centrepiece in this kitchen and we think it looks amazing! We created a large area for preparing food and fitted the island with a combination of deep and shallow drawers and additional cupboard space on one side and conveniently hidden plug sockets on the other. A perfectly balanced elevation is achieved with the featured extractor housing in a bespoke over-cooker mantel, featuring pull-out full-extension spice racks with the dramatic splashback. To the right is the pocket door larder and to the left is the fully integrated double-door fridge freezer by Fisher Paykel. As you can see from the image below we paired walnut veneered internals with double larder pocket doors which give the client the option of having open shelving or cabinetry! The pocket doors can be left open with the doors neatly stowed in the pockets which don’t impede on the use of space and allows this breakfast station to be open for an extended length of time. It can be designed for smaller appliances, an additional oven or microwave, a coffee station, a breakfast pantry, a utility sink with a boiling water tap and a drinks bar area. A practical worksurface was also added to the larder for a durable and wipe-clean feature. The sink is from Shaws of Darwen (Inset 800) and the taps are by Perrin and Rowe finished in brass which looks fabulous with the natural patterning of the marbled services and the paint tones. The below might look like any of the other in-frame shaker cabinets we have fitted in this kitchen, however, cleverly hidden behind these French door cabinets in a Fisher & Paykel fridge, with a large freezer draw underneath. We love using our creativity when designing bespoke kitchen spaces for our clients, and this kitchen was no exception! We paired the bespoke cabinetry in this kitchen with made to order handles from Armac Martin which offers a subtle blend of luxury with contemporary design and really brings the whole kitchen together. Talking about the striking pink and grey marble in more detail, it is a centrepiece feature of the kitchen, but it must be noted that it is less durable than a quartz for instance.
The Merchant’s House has been recognized as a National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
