Last week I talked on instagram stories about my stash and my unsuccessful attempt at organizing it. For years I have been folding and storing all of my stash fabric (which I embarassingly have way to
I love a good scrap busting project, and this Roscoe blouse, sewn up in 3 different leftover cuts of fabric, may be my favorite scrap buster to date. I grabbed three rayon fabrics, all with the same basic color family, to use for this project. As you can see I did make a couple of hacks to the pattern. I used the peplum hack for the Roscoe that I blogged about here for the bodice. Flor the sleeves, I lengthened them by about 6 inches, and then added an elastic casing at the wrist for a long sleeve hack. I also cut the sleeve in two so I could use two fabrics instead of one at the sleeve. I am so happy with how this project turned out. I was not so sure about it half way thru, but in the end it has that perfect boho vibe that I love. Such a great transitional piece for fall. Each of the three cuts were between 1/2 and 1 yard and I just mixed and matched them. There is no real science to it. If you have more fabrics than three that go well together, you could use more. Can't wait to make another one soon.
Welcome to finish it up Friday! I have now completed 15 of these blocks, which means that I'm keeping up with my goal of completing 5 blocks a month. Hurray! The blocks are English Paper Pieced, so they are completely stitched by hand. Each block takes awhile, but I enjoy the process so much! I have not been deliberate about the colors I choose for the overall quilt, rather I'm selecting fabrics one block at a time. This is the first time that I laid them all out together and I'm relieved that they are cohesive, as a group. (I'm using 30's reproduction prints, which all tend to go together, so it wasn't a HUGE risk, really.) I added the scissors in the photo for scale. These blocks are pretty large! That's good news, because that means I need fewer of them for a decent sized quilt. The sew it goes tote that I made awhile back (pattern available for purchase here) is so helpful for containing all the pieces as I work and it makes the project very portable. Plus, it's really cute!!! As you can see, I'm well on my way to completing my next block. I'm hoping that I have plenty of time to hand stitch this weekend. That's it for me today! Now, it's your turn to link up your finishes for the week. Thank you for joining me for finish it up Friday! Have a great weekend! Happy Easter!

Stash Busting. If you're new to yarn, then this term might sound weird to you. (Not to be confused with Stache Busting, where a bunch of guys get together and groom each other for Movember.)
I was charmed by this tiny pot of Pucci, presented in the Styles section of today's NYT. It's lush and green like the promise of summer, with signature swirls.

Pipes is a bias knit garter stitch shawl that starts at the right tip and ends at the left edge. The entire shawl is made up of two simple rows of knitting with increases worked at the start of every right side row. Just when you are ready for something more than rows of garter stitch, you begin the striped “pipe” section. Ten of the pipes have extensions that connect them to the next pipe. Extensions are worked over four rows using intarsia for color changes. The shawl is completed with a second main color section. The center of Pipes is where you can let your personality shine. Careful color selection can highlight the pipes or the spaces between the pipes. You can be bold and bright, more subdued and neutral, use a color changing yarn, a gradient set, or even do some stash busting. Pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit.
