Oceania contains a diverse biosphere with fascinating wildlife in its biomes: the desert comprises most of the center of Oceania as the continent's largest biome, surrounded by grasslands. Farther north, we find lush tropical forests, and to the south, temperate forest teem with exciting species. Marshes and swamps dot the coast as Oceania's wetlands. Designed for elementary classrooms, the Continent Biome Cards–Elementary cover all the biomes found on the continent and offer a structure for independent research. These three-part cards include an illustrated picture card, a label, and a description card for experienced readers. Each set of Continent Biome Cards–Elementary includes a continent card and biome cards, with a plant card, animal cards, and people cards for each biome on the continent. The plant and animal cards emphasize the interesting environmental adaptations of the organisms, and the animal cards comprise one invertebrate and one of each class of vertebrates. The people cards introduce indigenous, rural, and urban populations to give a realistic view of the diversity of cultures found on a continent, with six cards for each group of people that explore their fundamental needs, including food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and culture. The Aboriginal tribes of Oceania's indigenous peoples have experienced various degrees of assimilation into western culture; we look at a tribe in the wetlands and another in the tropical forest. People in Sydney live in the temperate forest, while others live more remotely in the outback regions: ranchers reside in the grasslands, while miners and their families dwell in caves in the desert. A teacher’s guide that outlines lesson presentations and offers ideas for extensions and further research comes with the cards. A blackline biome map and masters for the cards can be downloaded from the A-Z PDF Library on our website. All sets are cut and ready to laminate. (6 to 12 years) Item: 625OCB Includes: 85 Three-part cards (a picture card, a description card, and a label), comprising six biomes: desert, grassland, mountain, temperate forest, tropical forest, and wetland Paper Biomes of the Continent Labels Teacher’s Guide to Presentation
