A high quality Print of one of my original oil paintings, on Natural Textured Paper, which captures much of the visual texture of my painting; with a wide white cardboard border. Signed by me, the artist, and posted in a plastic film sleeve inside a stiff envelope. The Roman Road of 'Dere Street' sinking down as a sunken lane along the eastern edge of Brusselton Wood, County Durham, England, in April, with many trees and bushes, some of them very old on either side of it, just as the fresh Spring growth has sprung. Brusselton is one of my favourite woods that I love to go walking in, especially in the Spring when it is ablaze with bluebells, which are replaced by a profuse growth of bracken fern completely covering the ground; except for various paths. For me, particularly, with a lifetime's interest and love of woodland and nature, and being inspired by the spirit of the Green Man, I am drawn to places like this, full of nature and history, and particularly to paths, as part of my spiritual journey through life; being drawn, ever forward, to the unknown of the future. This is only the 24th painting I have created since starting this new chapter in my life. Size; - 8" x 10", 200mm x 255mm (image 6" x 8", 150mm x 200mm). Prints are also available in other sizes. If you are interested, speak to me about sizes, prices and availability. Colours may vary from your monitor. Copyright© 2023 Stephen Cousins, All rights reserved. Most of the flowers I am currently using are seasonal and short lived. Fortunately the price is reasonable enough and the designs simple enough for everything to be replaced on a maintenance day. Even as we left these vases, the bluebells were bursting open.
A leafy path rising through Brusselton Wood, County Durham, England, in the early Autumn. This is one of my favourite woods that I love to go walking in, especially in the Spring when it is ablaze with bluebells, which are replaced by a profuse growth of bracken fern which completely covers the ground; except for various paths. My PhD is in landscape archaeology, specialising in woodland and field systems, so I can tell you that this is an area of ancient wood-pasture, with much of the undergrowth grazed down these days by deer, but probably cattle in the past. Over the centuries, there has been varying amounts of coal pitting/mining in it too, with old hazel coppice surviving, which would of been used to make baskets to remove the coal by packhorses; but many old trees survive too. Along the eastern edge of the wood runs the Roman Road of 'Dere Street', the ancient route between York and the far North of the Roman Empire. This is only the 22nd painting I have created since starting this new chapter in my life. Prints of this painting are also available. Harebell, often called “bluebell”, is a flower found around the world in the Northern Hemisphere but most often, associated with Scotland. Harebell has many common names including bellflower, lady's thimble, witch's thimble, heathbells, fairies’ thimbles, and dead men’s bells. Harebell grows in a variety of habitats ranging from full sun to shade; dry to moderate moisture; woods, meadows, cliffs, and beaches; in sandy, gravely soil. It can be found at elevations up to 12,000 feet in the Western United States.
I love Bluebell time photos. As a child, my favourite picture was of Bluebells in a wood which hung on my grandparent's wall.
