This Book Talk Podcast is intended to be completed after students have finished choice reading novels, so perhaps at the end of an independent study, or book clubs. You could use these handouts if your class read a whole-class novel, just make sure that only students that have completed their podcasts do the peer-assessments so that they can’t listen to other’s podcasts and copy them. This project uses the Vocaroo.com and Canva.com sites so your students will need to have access to devices (laptop, ipad, phone, etc.) and the Internet, to facilitate the project. This method of recording (using Vocaroo) is very simple and straightforward. It is a good place to start for beginners. If you have students who are more knowledgable about recording, they can use other sites or apps on their phones they are familiar with. You can either print the handout pages for students, or have them complete the pages on Google Slides. Students will follow the planning pages and example script in the handouts to write their podcast script, rehearse, then record using the Vocaroo site. Then they will use Canva to create a podcast cover image and insert the cover image and the Vocaroo audio file onto a Google Slide that they will hand in.
