This special Adopt a Book listing is only for antique books - those that are approximately 100 years old or more💜 I’m excited to be able to offer a selection of beautiful, antique books up for adoption! The Adopt A Book scheme was created to find homes for old books that are a bit more worn. Here’s how it came about... My Etsy shop is filled with lots of beautiful vintage books, but what happens to these books that are a little more worn? Well, the ones which are significantly damaged with pages falling out and detached covers get upcycled in my crafts. They're turned into bookmarks, cards, gift tags and box frame art, many of which are available to buy in my shop. I try and waste as little as possible. But that left me with the dilemma of what to do with the books which are more worn and well loved, but are still readable vintages copies. This was my solution! The 'Adopt a Book' scheme where you can give a home to a vintage book. In this particular listing however, all the books are over 100 years old. They are showing more signs of their age, perhaps through staining, wear, discolouration, damaged spines or corners...but most importantly there are no loose pages or covers hanging on by just a thread! They are fully functioning books that are just a little more well loved than others. You can choose what title book you wish to purchase, or you can elect to have one sent at random. Either way, your book will be wrapped in brown paper and sent to you in an eco-friendly jiffy bag. My shop ethos is to waste as little as possible, and when I found out how many books (hundreds of thousands) got recycled each year and turned into corrugated cardboard, I resolved to do what I could to save some of these vintage books. All I can say now is...Happy Reading!
Most people lie and say they've read these classic books to seem smarter, according to a survey in The Guardian. Chances are, you're one of those people too.

This beloved bestseller—over 180,000 copies sold—has helped caregivers worldwide keep themselves emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, and physically healthy in the face of the sometimes overwhelming traumas they confront every day. A longtime trauma worker, Laura van Dernoot Lipsky offers a deep and empathetic survey of the often-unrecognized toll taken on those working to make the world a better place. We may feel tired, cynical, or numb or like we can never do enough. These, and other symptoms, affect us individually and collectively, sapping the energy and effectiveness we so desperately need if we are to benefit humankind, other living things, and the planet itself. In Trauma Stewardship, we are called to meet these challenges in an intentional way. Lipsky offers a variety of simple and profound practices, drawn from modern psychology and a range of spiritual traditions, that enable us to look carefully at our reactions and motivations and discover new sources of energy and renewal. She includes interviews with successful trauma stewards from different walks of life and even uses New Yorker cartoons to illustrate her points. “We can do meaningful work in a way that works for us and for those we serve,” Lipsky writes. “Taking care of ourselves while taking care of others allows us to contribute to our societies with such impact that we will leave a legacy informed by our deepest wisdom and greatest gifts instead of burdened by our struggles and despair.
