August Star (Simon Provan) is a Hollywood actor who reluctantly returns to his hometown of Owl's Point with his mom/manager Rhonda (Dale Waddington) and director Tony (Ken Williams) to film a Christmas special. La película ha sido presentada en diversos festivales: Estuvo presente en la Sección Nuevos directores del Festival de Cine de San Sebastián y, en la Sección Paralela del Festival de Rotterdam. También ganó el premio de la crítica en el Festival de Cine de Zúrich. Donde más triunfó fue en los premios del cine suizo, donde obtuvo los premios a la mejor película, mejor guion y mejor actriz. Estos días de verano la podemos disfrutar en la sección identidad del Atlántida Film Festival. Nos cuenta la historia de Mia, una joven que acaba de mudarse a los suburbios de Zúrich por el trabajo de su padre. A su desorientada ubicación hay que sumar que está en plena adolescencia y que su cuerpo está cambiando a pasos acelerados. Completamente distanciada de sus padres, se refugia en sus nuevas compañeras de clase, sobre todo en una nueva chica, con la que descubrirá muchas cosas. El vínculo entre ellas es absoluto mientras se sumergen en una huida hacia adelante, para escapar de sí mismas, buscando formas de evasión constante, dejándose llevar por las salidas que su entorno les ofrece sin censura alguna. Es una película que sobre todo pretende buscar la identidad propia y el miedo al rechazo social. La directora somete a la joven protagonista a unos acontecimientos que pondrán a prueba sus vértigos y sus miedos hasta permitirse ser auténtica. Al elenco de actores se les nota que son semi-profesionales, pero eso no implica que tengan unas actuaciones bastantes creíbles y bien desarrolladas. La directora les da su espacio para que puedan acercarse a los estados emocionales que necesitan para dar credibilidad a la historia. En definitiva me ha parecido una película bastante perversa y peculiar, es de agradecer poder ver cosas diferentes con semejante fuerza tanto en la dirección como en la actuación de los protagonistas. Puntuación: 6.5/10 LO MEJOR: La novedad de la historia que cuenta. LO PEOR: Cuesta un poco entrar en ella. ( Crítica escrita por Christopher Laso )
