Me inspiran y me dan fuerza.

Tokyo-based textile artist Mana Morimoto creates these amazing compositions by carefully arranging embroidery threads on pictures. The resulting images find their place outside of traditional notions of arts and crafts. Thereby her artistic work has a simple origin: ‘I started working with threads because I wasn’t happy with my life. I was at a point […]
It’s amazing how contemporary artists use embroidery as a medium to create so much beauty in so many diverse ways. Inspired by plants, coral and cells, Meredith Woolnough uses thread to create elegant shapes and patterns that are an absolute delight for the eye. After sketching out a pattern on fabric, Meredith carefully applies the thread with […]

Let embroidery inspire your weekend with these beautiful works of art using a needle and thread as a brush with paint. We love the diversity of the shapes and colors used, and the way artists pair the thread with such unique canvases.
British artist Mandy Pattullo creates gorgeous pieces of stitched and pieced textiles using vintage fabrics and embroideries.
Malaysian-born artist and model Sheena Liam (previously) creates self-portraiture through dark green thread and embroidery hoops. The hand-sewn images imitate her own subtle gestures from her day-to-day life, focusing on rituals of self care. “In a strange way modeling parallels my art in the sense I often have to use body language as means of expressing a certain sort of mood,” she explains. “It’s no different from my embroideries.” Long locks flow off the canvas from sewn ponytails and braids, which give the monochromatic work a sense of movement from their static position on the wall.
Chilean artist Jose Romussi adds embroidery to paper photographs to extracts a third dimension, and thus a nascent personality, out of an otherwise flat image. By doing so, Romussi opens space for alternative interpretations and methods of viewing a staged image. The artist refers to his work as an "intervention," and in many ways, his intentions are similar to other contemporary artists who use yarn as a method of interrupting the norm. Like "Yarn Bombing," which is often performed as a softer act of graffiti in public places, Romussi's compositions attempt to re-define notions of beauty while simultaneously drawing attention to social issues, such as the re-appropriation of African patterns and other non-Western traditions in high fashion.
Hungarian artist Agnes Herczeg creates figural lace works of female forms, capturing figures in moments of contemplation or work. In one piece the subject stands at a loom, appearing to weave herself from the included fibers. In each of her works Herczeg uses all natural materials, incorporating small pieces of wood or other found materials to serve as a sculpture’s bed frame, hair accessory, floating vessel, or small shelf. Herczeg studied textile conservation at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, and over the years has gathered several methods of embroidery and lace-making to use in her work such as needle lace, pillow lace, macramé, and more.
Tweet
