Catasetum discolor is found in inland northern South America, from Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, and Surinam to eastern Brazil. it grows in sandy soil, often between tufts of grass and under low trees and bushes near gallery forests and in savannah, at elevation of 500 to 1100 meters. They are also reported to grow epiphytically on palm trees.

The rusty-tipped page or brown siproeta (Siproeta epaphus) is a tropical butterfly species found throughout Central America, where it is one of the most common butterflies. Its range extends from southern North America (south Texas and rarely southern New Mexico), south through both eastern and western Mexico to central South America (Guyanas, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru). The rusty-tipped page is scarce in lowland areas, but commonly seen at elevations between 400 - 1800 m, and is associated with forest edges and clearings, well vegetated riverbanks, roadsides and pastures. It has relatively large wings, averaging 7.0 - 7.8 cm, that are brown to black in the inner portion of the top surface and brown throughout the underside. Both surfaces have a bold white transverse stripe continuing across both wings. The outer portion of the forewings, beyond the white stripe, is rusty orange. This picture is taken in the indoor tropical butterfly garden of the Passiflorahoeve in Harskamp, the Netherlands. De Siproeta epaphus (er is geen Nederlandse naam voor deze soort) is een in Midden Amerika veel voorkomende vlinder. Het totale verspreidingsgebied gaat van het uiterste zuiden van de Verenigde Staten (zuid Texas) via Mexico en Midden Amerika naar noordelijk Zuid Amerika tot aan Suriname, Brazilië, Bolivia en Peru. De Siproeta epaphus is schaars in laaggelegen gebieden, maar vaak gezien op een hoogte tussen 400 à 1800 meter. De vlinder wordt geassocieerd met bosranden en open plekken, goed begroeide oevers, bermen en weilanden. De vlinder heeft relatief grote vleugels, gemiddeld 7 à 7,8 cm, die aan de bovenkant bruin tot zwart in het middengedeelte zijn, een witte dwarsstreep heeft en roestig oranje punten. Aan de onderkant van de vleugels is het zwart meer bruin.
