Think outside the box - That is what Brenda Bloomington has come to face, having led a sheltered life, and coming from a very strict, devout Christian family. Her father, Reverend Robert Bloomington, is totally devoted to his profession, and has little time for his wife, Gale, or Brenda. For years, Brenda's mother has harped to her daughter about finishing school and attending college before ever considering marriage. She doesn't want Brenda to make the same mistakes she has. Brenda promises her mother that she will, but then Greg Townsend's family moves to town, and Brenda is smitten by him almost immediately, but it is not until a few years later, when Brenda has matured into a pretty young woman, that Greg really notices her for the first time. It isn't long, and Greg asks Brenda to marry him. When Gale learns of the engagement, she is furious and walks out on Brenda and Robert. Brenda marries Greg, but soon begins to really fathom why her mother left. Brenda starts to rebel, and that is when everything really begins to change. Suddenly, she is learning that things she believes to be concrete aren't, and she finds herself questioning everything.

What began as a passion project quickly evolved into a hands on paper quilting bee. Mother and daughter artists, Brenda Bogart and Stephanie Stephenson Walker, had always shared an interest in the story of Gee's Bend. The art of quilt making, taking what you have and turning it into something functional, provides much inspiration. However the true influence for Brenda and Stephanie was the strength of a community of women to create in a time of distress. Collage, they discovered, is not so different from quilting. It involves piecing together what you have to compose something beautiful and whole. In homage to the women in their family, the artists named the quilts after their female ancestors, many of whom quilted themselves. They offer Priscilla, Quilt 1 in archival prints on paper with 2” white attached border.

I SHIP WORLDWIDE INFO - Ardis Ankerson (Born September 29, 1915 – Died July 30, 1992), known as Brenda Marshall, was a Fillipino-born, American film actress. Marshall made her first film appearance in the 1939 Espionage Agent. The following year, she played the leading lady to Errol Flynn in The Sea Hawk. After divorcing actor Richard Gaines in 1940, she married William Holden in 1941, and her own career soon slowed. She starred opposite James Cagney in Captains of the Clouds (1942). Marshall had a popular success in The Constant Nymph (1943), but she virtually retired after this, appearing in only four more inconsequential films. In one of these, she played scientist Nora Goodrich in the B picture cult classic Strange Impersonation (1946). In 1955, five years after her last film role, she made an appearance as herself (billed as Mrs. William Holden) in the fourth-season episode of I Love Lucy entitled "The Fashion Show". Marshall was born in the Philippines. She was one of two daughters of Otto Peter Ankerson, overseer of a large sugar plantation near Bacolod. Her mother died in 1925 when she was young, so Ardis, along with her older sister Ruth, attended grammar school and began high school studies as boarding students at the Brent School in Baguio City. In the early 1930s, the girls were sent to San Antonio, Texas, to complete high school. She attended Texas State College for Women in her freshman and sophomore years, 1934–35, and was named the Freshman Class Beauty in 1934, chosen by modern dancer Ted Shawn. Brenda Marshall was her stage name, but she refused to use the name off-camera and insisted that her friends call her by her real name. She married the actor Richard Huston Gaines in 1936, and they had one daughter, Virginia; the couple divorced in 1940. In 1941, Marshall married actor William Holden, who subsequently adopted Virginia Gaines (born November 17, 1937, New York City). Marshall and Holden had two sons together, Peter Westfield "West" Holden (1943–2014) and Scott Porter Holden (1946–2005). After several separations, Marshall and Holden were divorced in 1971. Marshall died in 1992 from throat cancer in Palm Springs, California, aged 76.
Do you know if your child introvert or extrovert? It matters when it comes to their social and emotional well being. Here are some ways to tell and how to help guide either way.
After 70 years in the newspaper biz, Brenda Starr, Reporter is being retired by the Chicago Tribune. Writer, Mary Schmich and artist, June Brigman have decided to call it quits. Rather than find a new team, the Tribune has decided to cancel the strip. (I knew I should have finished that two year script! Brenda would have had story lines FOREVER! Starr Twinkle! Basil! Hank! B-Bomb! Pesky! Merrie Ryder! Wanda Fonda & Sage, etc. Didn't want to draw it --- just wanted to write it!) But, our beloved red headed reporter will not be forgotten. She is being commemorated in a new hard backed, full color compilation series of Sunday and Daily strips by Hermes Press in June 2011. I have been wanting to write about Brenda on this blog for AGES, but every time I started --- I would honestly just get overwhelmed. Like now. She had SO much history. SO many adventures. So much of it SO incredible. She influenced me SO much in my life as a storyteller and cartoonist. I just wanted to do her justice. In the end, I don't know if I can. But, I will try. This is just a tid bit. Brenda's creator, Dale Messick was a genius (1906 - 2005). She changed her name from Dalia in order to get in the door and prove that a strong female lead could head a strip. Originally, Brenda was supposed to be a girl pirate. But, I'm glad that changed. She evolved into the glamorous red headed reporter that chased story after story, helped people, solved problems, then eventually met her Mystery Man. (Now ... she chased him for over 30 years, but still ... So, hang in there, gurls!) I hate to see her go, but I'm happy she's actually not going anywhere. Dale ... you did good, girl. It's about time you got more props. This is just the beginning ! Brenda Starr, Reporter Being saved by The Mystery Man Basil St. John Trying to ditch a potential beau, Timber Woods. Tears and regrets. Always. A gal can't wait forever. A red head gone fiery! Oh, that Brenda! What have you done now?!? Liz Cleaver pretending to be Libby Lipps, another hater after our Brenda. Prof. Dan Dalivar discovering that Brenda will always love her Mystery Man. More haters! The life of a glamorous red head. Wrong, but honest reflection. Hands off, Dr. Dell! Our Brenda ain't having it! Another Mystery Man wannabe. Don't fall for it, Brenda! Gasp! Our Brenda in another predicament! Like a pro, her next step is to interview him! Make-over madness! Merrie Ryder, a little girl grown up to find woman problems! Never ride while angry. A familiar culprit: amnesia! Clever Brenda helping another hater! That's right! A woman's in charge! Using what she has to find her Mystery Man --- again! And, finally getting him: Mr. & Mrs. Basil St. John! And the birth of their daughter, Starr Twinkle! The story I remembered first --- Galaxy Gal! Losing her Mystery Man to the Bermuda Triangle in a hot air balloon. More to come!
