Lothian Buses predecessor Lothian Region Transport bus 285. P285 PSX. Alexander Royale bodied Volvo Olympian OLY-56. Seen here, rather surprisingly, working a Part Route rush 25 from Riccarton Campus to Haymarket, on the Calder Road This bus has now been renumbered as X285 being part of LB's preserved heritage fleet. It is, normally, used very sparingly, mostly on the St. Andrews Square to Ingliston special service 98 for about 2 weekends a year and only for a few journeys. It also has been used as a replacement bus on the Edinburgh Bus Tours 'Bus & Boat' tour to South Queensferry. So it was a surprising encounter to find it working on service work.This bus was part of a fleet of 67 Olympians bought in 1996 /1997 to service the then brand new bus lane between Haymarket and the Maybury, being used on the service's 26 from Marine and 33/31 from Longstone. These buses were well received by the drivers and public alike. Todays surprising meeting was most welcome. If I had more time the picture would have been better framed, but when needs must.....
