Log homes are warm and cozy feeling; however a monotonous wood tone everywhere can sometimes be overwhelming. Don't overdo the wood by adding even more wood furniture and furnishings! Here are some ideas for decorating a log cabin without wood overload. LightLog homes are notorious for not having enough light, especially in the winter. Maximize the natural light by minimizing curtains or anything else that may cover the windows, inside and outside. Use light fixtures with many light bulbs and/or light bulbs with a higher lumen output. If possible, increase the size of your windows or add skylights. Reflective surfaces also help a log home feel lighter and brighter - you can use mirrors, shiny accessories, and metallic items to bounce light around. Don't forget about light from a fire in the fireplace and candlelight. ColorAdd items that are white and brightly colored to your log cabin to reduce the overload of wood. Leather furniture is very common in log homes, however brown leather just blends in to the sea of brown logs that are already there. A white or colorful sofa with brightly colored pillows and a colorful rug will make your log home feel more cheery. Even a bowl of colorful fruit on the kitchen countertop can add a touch of color to a sterile kitchen. Decorating your log cabin with colorful wall art is a great way to add color to your room and cover up a bit of the brown logs. FabricsLog cabins can sometimes feel overly masculine, too utilitarian, and not comfy. Leather fabrics are common, however consider adding some fabrics not commonly found in log cabins. You can add colorful curtains (and maybe some soft white sheers underneath), a fluffy rug, and soft white bedding to make your log cabin feel more cozy & welcoming. You can also add fabrics to your walls, such as quilts or tapestries, that cover up a bit of the brown logs and also dampens any echos you might have in your home. Flowers and PlantsDon't forget that you can bring flowers and plants inside your log home to soften all of the wood. Plants also help purify the air. Flowers add a feminine touch to a home's masculine log interior. The easiest way to add greenery and flowers to your home is to purchase them at the store. Consider planting a cutting garden at your home so you can bring different cut flowers into your home seasonally. You can also cut greenery to add to your flowers or just use greenery if your flowers are not in bloom. Modern & Feminine ElementsDon't be afraid to add a few modern or feminine elements to your log cabin. The mixture of rustic timbers and modern decor can be quite striking. Consider adding modern light fixtures or modern artwork for a bit of fun. Feminine colors and textures contrast nicely with the rough wood logs to create an interesting juxtaposition. The contrast in styles will make your home unique and one-of-a-kind instead of predictable.
