Saguaros begin blossoming during the months of April and May in the Sonoran desert. A single bud will produce a large white flower lasting one night & day, pollinated by birds, bees, and bats, before it withers. This shot was taken in my back yard, west of Tucson Arizona. Thank you for looking at my Etsy listing! Arizona Cactus Growers is a local nursery in Surprise, Arizona growing high quality locally grown cactus and succulents. My passion is growing indigenous plants, especially Joshua Trees that are being devastated by climate change. Selling Hildewintera X 'Peach Monarch'. Very easy to grow, fast-growing, bloom heavy, and great for beginners! This prolific clumping cactus has arching or trailing stems that produce peach-pink flowers in spring and summer months. Once established, arms are littered with flowers and last for several days. Specs are 4"-5" in length and fully rooted. You will receive one very similar as shown and ship's bare root. Cold hardy up to 32 degrees or USDA Zone 9a. It is great for succulent patio gardeners, kitchens, living rooms, offices, containers, and low desert or coastal landscapes. Growers tip: Great for hanging baskets on your patio or planted underneath your tree in warmer climates. Protect from freezing weather and ensure well-draining soil. Water only during growing months. Soggy soil leads to rot. Prefers filtered light, partial sun, or light shade, and may burn in strong direct sun.

DIY flower pots are a great way to add some character to your flowers both indoors and outdoors. These concrete planters are adorable and trendy.
It was a cloudy morning in the desert today, and also unseasonably cool (until today, my fleece jacket must have been thinking it could put its feet up until October). As the sun rose into a bank of cloud, I decided to liven things up a little with some off-camera flash. I like how the stamen of each flower seems to have burst open. This seems only to happen on windy nights. Normally, the pieces of the stamen stay together as a single unit, as they have on this other saguaro flower photo. Strobist info: Canon 540EZ on 1/32 power with half CTO gel to warm up the light a little, handheld above my head, fired by a horrified Pocket Wizard that kept asking me what on earth I was doing balanced at the top of a a six-foot stepladder in a strong wind at sunrise. 1/50 at f/11, ISO 200.
