Earth Unreal - The Asian giant softshell turtle (Pelochelys cantorii), also known as Cantor's giant softshell turtle or Frog-faced softshell turtle, is a species of freshwater turtle in the family Trionychidae and native to Southeast Asia. This species has a broad head and small eyes close to the tip of its snout. It has a smooth, olive-colored carapace varying between 70 to 100 cm (28 to 39 in) in length, with some individuals known to reach exceptionally larger sizes and can weigh in excess of 100 kg (220 lb). Being an ambush predator, the turtle spends 95% of its life buried and motionless, with only its eyes and mouth protruding from the sand. It is carnivorous and feeds on crustaceans, mollusks, fish, and occasionally some aquatic plants. It emerges to the surface only twice a day to breathe. The Asian giant softshell turtle is classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat destruction and being hunted for its meat by local people. 📷 Unknown (Please comment if you do and we will update the caption
