Everyone loves a little bit of pizzazz on special occasions, and these swing cards are just the thing to spice up your gift-giving. They are relatively easy to make and amazingly versatile when it comes to sizes and shapes.... you can even buy dies that will cut your entire swing card, fancy shapes and all! Today, though, I'm just going to show you how to do-it-yourself with a basic rectangular swing panel on a square shaped card. SWING CARD TEMPLATE 1. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 51/2" x 71/2". 2. READ THIS INSTRUCTION CAREFULLY FIRST, THEN FOLLOW THE TEMPLATE ABOVE... Place the cardstock horizontally on your score board. You will be making four individual score lines - two at the top that are 1" apart, and two at the bottom that are also 1" apart. Each score line needs to be 11/2" long. As you can see in the photo below, I use a ruler as a guide so I know where to stop the score line. Start by scoring your first line at 31/4". It should only be 11/2" long measuring from the top of the cardstock. Now make another line in the same way at 41/4". 3. To make the bottom two score lines you will need to do the same thing, but measure 11/2" up from the bottom of the cardstock. Make your third score line at 31/4", and your fourth score line at 41/4". Refer to the template above. 4. Use a craft knife or trimmer to cut the swing panel. (Refer to the template for placement and length of cuts.) The first vertical cut is 21/2" long and starts 13/4" from the left hand side of the card and 11/2" from the top. The second vertical cut is 21/2" long and starts 43/4" from the left hand side of the card and 11/2" from the top. Now you need to cut horizontally from the top of the first vertical cut to the top of the second vertical cut WITHOUT cutting between the score lines. Do the same for the bottom section remembering not to cut between the score lines. Your card should now look like the photo below. 5. Fold and crease along the score lines. The card base is now complete and the centre panel should swing as it is opened and closed. 6. To decorate, cut some patterned papers for the inside of the card, removing the sections around the flip panel. You'll also need two panels for the swinging section of the card... one for the front and one for inside. 7. Stamp and colour the two image panels as desired. 8. Now adhere all the papers and panels in place. Remember to fully OPEN the card to place the inside panel. 9. Close the card and adhere the front panel in place. 10. Add any additional embellishments as desired. Stamps:

Playing with more stuff! I saw a sample on a demonstrator-only Facebook page, and had to try it for my grandsons. What do you think of this: I got this adorable new stamp set, Seaside Shore, and thought it would be fun to make a card for Ethan and Jacob. So I started with the inside--if this wasn't going to work I wasn't going to spend time creating the outside of the card...but it DID work, and it came out so cute. So here is the card from the front. I stamped the fish, masked them with a post-it note (stamped the fish and cut out to create the mask) and then stamped over them with the seaweed. I also added the bubbles. Then I colored them to make them look "tropical", and I added Wink of Stella to each fish (sorry you can't see how shiny they are). Then to the inside: I created a "pop up" by folding my cardstock in half and making a slit about 1-3/4" across the fold. Then I scored from each end of the slit to the center of the fold--this allowed me to pop out the "mouth" of my fish. I covered him in Peekaboo Peach Designer Series Paper; his tail is cut from a retired flower punch (but could easily be from a heart punch) and his fins are the retired Scallop Circle punch. On the back of the card, across the "mouth" I added a stamped banner, glued to either side of his mouth. Seaweed was added along the bottom of the "ocean" and I stamped and cut some little shells for the ocean floor. This piece was mounted to little scalloped strips of Peekaboo Peach, and then adhered to the inside of my card. But I had to have a treat to go with my cute card... The new Clear Tiny Treat Boxes were perfect! They are 2" cubes, clear, and such fun to play with. I cut 1-15/16" x 8-1/2" strips of the Peekaboo Peach DSP and scored them at just under the 2" mark every 2"; this allowed me to insert the paper INSIDE the treat box. I wrapped them with ribbon and added little tags. These were cut with the Lots of Labels Framelits and decorated with Swirly Scribbles "seaweed" and cut out fish. And what was inside? Well fish and and worms, of course: I found Swedish Fish and Gummy Worms--what could be more perfect? I loved putting this set together, and expect my grandsons will enjoy it all when it arrives this week. What do you think? All items can be purchased here.

All the excitement of an exploding card is in the folded insert. When the card is opened, the insert unfolds to a larger size than the card revealing the message or image inside. They are great for large events where lots of people want to sign the card. 1. Start with a large, square piece of heavy paper. To determine the size, decide on how big you want your finished card to be and then double it. For example, I wanted a 51/2" x 51/2" card, so my paper measures 11" x 11". If you want a 4" x 4" card then you will need an 8" x 8" piece of paper, if you want a 6" x 6" card then you will need a 12" x 12" piece of paper, and so on. 2. Stamp your sentiment and any decorative elements you want. I need plenty of room for people to write messages in my card so I only printed a Happy Birthday greeting in the centre. 3. Time to start folding! Begin by bringing the bottom right hand corner up to the top left hand corner, creating a diagonal fold. 4. Open it out again then bring the bottom left hand corner up to the top right hand corner creating another diagonal fold. Press firmly with your bone folder. 5. You'll now have two diagonal valley folds on your insert. 6. Turn your insert over so the words are face down on your desk. Fold it horizontally by bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge as shown below. Open it out once again. 7. Now take the two side edges and press them toward each other. Your insert will fold along the lines you created to form a triangle shape. 8. Fold the points of the triangle to the centre of the insert, as shown in the photos below. Use the previous folds as measuring guides. 9. Fold the other point in the same manner, then flip the insert over and do it again on the other side. 10. Open your insert to reveal all the fold lines you created. 11. Pinch each corner and fold toward the centre creating a mountain fold. 12. Now fold the insert. The paper should bend along all the creases you made. 13. Now we're ready to adhere it inside the card blank. Apply some double sided tape to both sides of the insert as shown in the photos below. 14. Measure and mark the centre point on the inside of your card. 15. Adhere the insert into your card, lining the point up with the centre mark and keeping the edges of the insert flush with the edges of the card. 16. Adhere the other side by removing the tape and closing the card. 17. Decorate the front of your card, double checking that the orientation of the insert is correct... you don't want it to be upside down!
Hello stamping friends. Welcome to Funky Folds Blog Hop #3. We are a community for like minded paper crafters who love to make cards with funky/fancy/fun folds and to share our ideas. Funky actually means “modern and stylish in an unconventional or striking way”. We are featuring cards that are not your usual rectangle/square portrait of landscape style cards. Each and every month the blog hops will have and 'anything goes' theme as long as your card has some type of 'funky' fold. I've made for you today a Star Explosion Pop-Up card using products from the beautiful Stampin' Up! Country Woods Suite found in the new 2024 - 2025 Annual Catalogue. I've used the tutorial and measurements from Sam Calcott at Mixed Up Craft. When the card is closed it looks fairly inconspicuous but when you take off the belly band and open the card up that is where the magic happens. Here on the front I've layered Basic White, Pool Party and the Country Woods DSP for the front of the card and then I've used Misty Moonlight for the belly band and added DSP, Ribbon, stamped images and die-cuts using products from the Country Woods Suite. On the inside is a scored centre panel that all folds in neatly together when the card is folded closed. When opened the centre circle piece pops up and stands up a little off the card for that added element and dimension. As well as using the Country Woods DSP I've also adde some of the Country Lace DSP to layer on some of the panels and used more of the products from the Country Woods suite to embellish the inside. I coloured the floral images in using Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers and used the same floral images on the front as what is on the inside to keep that continuity from the outside to the inside. Stampin' Blends Used Flowers - Light Peach Pie, Light & Dark Petal Pink, Light Summer Splash, Light & Dark Pool Party, Light and Dark Boho Blue, Light Balmy Blue, Light Lemon Lolly Leaves - Light & Dark Mossy Meadow Teapot - Light and Dark Gray Granite I've even added some Basic White Panels on the back for you to write your message. This is such a WOW card when you open it. It's one of those cards that you hand deliver to your best crafting friend just so that you can see their reaction to when they open it. I do hope you like my Funky Fold that I've shared with you today. I just love how it turned out especially with the use of the Country Woods Suite products. This is another amazing suite that I've fallen in love with. Next up is Bronwyn Eastley from Tasmania, Australia with her Funky Fold. I can't wait to see what she has made for us.
