Here is a tutorial for a quilted hexagonal bowl. And reversible! PIN this for later The bowl measures 13 inches from a point to the opposite point. I made it using my shadow trapunto technique. I used these templates: Download the templates here (this is a 'pdf' file; you will need Adobe Reader to open it). After you print and cut the templates, check out that the bottom side of the 'A' piece has the same size as the side of the hexagon . Make six 'A' pieces and one 'B' piece. I made these pieces from quilted fabric. Make

A couple days before Christmas, I wrote about some of my 2014 goals. The first item on my list was a scrappy trip quilt using Nordika by Jeni Baker. I really loved my first scrappy trip quilt that I made for my nephew. When I bought some Nordika and coordinating solids and oval elements from Art Gallery, I knew I wanted to make another scrappy trip quilt for me. After Christmas, I got the itch to start this quilt, and I finished it a couple days after the new year. Not bad for accomplishing my first goal of 2014 so soon into the new year. I initially planned to use the same layout as my first scrappy trip quilt, but after piecing a couple rows together, I changed my mind and used this layout instead. It's funny that my favorite block, which is made up of blue, gray, black, and berry, really jumps out at me in this quilt (fourth row from the left, fourth block down). For the backing, I used a variety of solid flannel strips that coordinated with the colors on the front. The binding is the yellow bias plaid print from Nordika, which ended up being the perfect fit! I stipple quilted on the sides and then I quilted the rest in meandering loops. The quilt measures about 72 inches square and it's been in constant use at my house for the past two months--my favorite!

The House of Nathalie Meance was like walking into wonderland. Not only are her quilts beautiful in their own right, she has added amazing embellishments to make them even more stunning. No words can describe their beauty, so just enjoy the photos!! Don't forget to click on them to enlarge and see up close and personal this amazing work. My second favourite! My favourite! This is her book, which l believe features all these amazing quilts. Its available from Quiltmania. Nathalie also has a website. Its all in French, unfortunately, and l can't find a translate button. Which one is your favourite? And why? Thanks for visiting. Linda.

Kamie Murdock is making a very happy version of the quilt A new EPP phenomenon is happening, and it's interesting to catch it at the beginning, wondering if it will spread or just die. It makes me think of the Dear Jane adventure, as it's like the Way to Compostelle, one step at a time. I'm talking about the phenomenal success of the book Millefiori Quilts by Willyne Hammerstein, available at Quiltmania. The book has French and English instructions inside. There's one quilt in the book, that's particularly popular, it's the Passacaglia Quilt. Its success has especially increased since quilters have started to use very modern fabrics to make it. I'm thinking about Kamie Murdock or Tula Pink, for example. Since it need thousands of pieces and takes forever to make, they are taking the time to extensively blog about it, or post on Instagram, and it's just fascinating!! You can even buy paper pieces, ready to be use, as well as plexy templates to cut the fabric here! Tulla Pink with her La Passacaglia project in the background as seen on Elisabeth Maxson's site Sharon Burgess is almost there! If you feel like starting one, just read that, and make sure you understand how much energy you'll need to invest! Cathy from Eagles Wings, Canada writes a report every week Izy Denham's quilt I think one of the reasons of the success of that quilt is that it uses mostly pentagons, giving the allover design a more spiky, lively look, than if it was made of mostly hexagons. You can even buy paper pieces, ready to be use, as well as plexy templates to cut the fabric here! Finally the third version of a folding book from the instructions in Ruth Smith's series of Folded Secrets booklets is finished. It took a long time as both fabrics and papers had to be printed and painted first. I choose to use my gelli plate for this and you will have seen details from both fabrics and papers here before. This version of the book comes from Ruth's book no. 3 and it is project 2 from this book. She calls hers: Folded Secrets Patterns and Ideas book. You can order Ruth's set of 4 books about folding and twisting from her by contacting her on [email protected]. She accepts payment by UK cheque or Paypal. Above is the finished book. I found a large matching button in my stash for the closure and I used sari yarn too. Here is the book as it looks when you open it, with one twisting pocket open too. As you can see there are 8 twisting pockets in total. And underneath those twisted pockets are folding boxes, two smaller one and then culminating in one large one that is the one shown above. There are 2 of them, one on either side. A detail of the twisted pockets in their closed position. Unlike the previous versions of folding books that I made, this one has pages as well as boxes and pockets and above and below are details of these pages that I spray painted with permanent inks and through stencils. Finally below a view of the back of the book, wrapped with sari yarn.

Well as we enter Autumn we spent the day creating unique Collage boxes. It was a grey day outside a we brightened the day inside. After a start creating the backgrounds we were entertained by a cheeky book we were using that brought a smile to everyone's day. One of the things I love about this workshop is that most of the day we work flat......and then like magic we have our boxesEach box was totally individual and beautiful. Thank you ladies for a lovely day and possibly the last workshop in m

You’ve probably gathered that I have a tiny weakness for good needlework books. I really do. And I’m weird about them, because, whether or not I use them as they are intended to be used – i.e. to stitch a project from, to learn a specific technique – I always read them. I like to ...
