BLOOM III Table Lamp is part of our small line of gourd table lamps "BLOOM". All our lamps are handcrafted out of natural real gourd that we plant in our garden. The pattern of this table lamp has been done by drilling and carving, for which I spent 3 days making it. HOW WE DO IT? The process starts in our garden. We plant the seeds, and we try to acquire a variety of gourd types: large bottle gourd, medallion white gourd, speckled swan gourd, broad gourd etc. After around 5 months of constant care of the plants we take the fruits, and we continue with the drying step which takes about 6 months and requires periodic care. Once ready, the design phase steps in, in which I draw different patterns, that after I start carving and painting, and after we go to the assembly which is totally handmade,we designed every part of the lamp and built exclusively for each lamp. #sustainabledesign When you buy one of our lamps, you don't just take home a product. You contribute to reducing the consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste and reduce the negative impacts on the environment. It means carved gourd in spanish. It is a symbol of traditions and beliefs for the Andean communities of Peru. There are gourds that are as old as 3000 years ago. The gourds were originally used as containers for carrying food from the Peruvian highlands. Traditional Gourds were carved with day to day activities, myths, dances and andean traditions. Carved gourds showcased the stories of how people lived in the Andean Mountains. Today, gourds are carved with simple patterns for decorative purposes. The gourds are washed, peeled and dried in sun for 10-15 days. After the gourd is dried, the artist sketches their design on the gourd. Next, a buril or chisel is used to carve the patterns. The engraved gourd is smeared with oil and ash to fill the engravings, thus creating a black detail. The gourds are also burnt with burning piece of wood to create black color on the gourd.

Gourd, or Jícara, Hand-Carved Mezcal Small Cup Handmade by Artisans in Pinotepa de Don Luis, Oaxaca, Mexico In Oaxaca, the birthplace of mezcal, artisans have repurposed dried gourds and turned them into mezcal drinking vessels, or jícaras. These detailed hand-carved gourd vessels are transformed into works of art by carving them with images found in nature, mostly flora and fauna such as birds, rabbits, and flowers. The process to make these cups starts by collecting the gourds from the calabash tree once they are ripe and hard. They are then halved and cleaned by removing the pulp and any residue. Lastly, these are sanded and carved to achieve the delicate and detailed images that characterize them, beautiful and eco-friendly pieces of art! *Sold Individually* Traditionally used for mezcal, but it can be paired with your drink of preference.
