"Peace -- that was the other name for home." ~Kathleen Norris I can't believe that it is November (I know I say that every month.)! A part of me is shocked that time is passing so quickly and the other part of me just wishes it was CHRISTMAS! It's coming though and I love the days leading up to it. I will just have to be patient. I have been so busy lately - thankyou to the lovely people who have been ordering commissions lately! What a wonderful, happy kind of busy! This weekend I have balanced between art"work" and family time and I have loved every minute of it. I haven't had a lot of extra minutes to take pictures this week because there has been so much happening but I did manage to snap these few and play with them late one evening. -------->What I love about my home: the softness of everything, the flowers, the ivory walls, the way everywhere you look there is something pretty, the ambience, the coziness, and all of the old-fashioned things. P.S. I included a my favorite corner of one of my recent commissions at the end. I love the curly haired girl!

"The world's favourite season is the spring. All things seem possible in May." ~Edwin Way Teale I have a few very lovely antique acquisitions which I found back in April on a little trip I took with my family. I have only just got the chance to photograph them! The first is a little antique iron bench which has been reupholstered in a soft floral fabric. I painted it cream to match my vanity and I am so happy with how it turned out! I also found a beautiful Limoges demitasse cup and saucer with a very intricate pattern of roses and filigree gold. It is so rare that I find pretty china lately! The little Limoges plate was also a find - I gave it to my Mum for Mother's Day but I knew she wouldn't mind me photographing it first. :) Probably my most exciting find was the small French antique ormolu gilt clock which I have sat on my dresser. I saw it tucked in the back of a shop and my first thought was "That looks like something that would be on Marie Antoinette's dressing table!" --so of course it had to come home with me. The ormolu box with the bevelled glass was an antique show find and I recently listed it in my Etsy shop along with the little handmade Fairy Ballgown with the blush sparkly skirt, and the vintage pearl and rhinestone tiara! I discovered the oval gold gesso frame at a show as well. It had a dark petit point in it and I changed it for a vintage floral that is one of my favourites. I bought the little salt shaker because I knew it would hold my small hat pins - I love the tiny vintage ones with pearls and beads. It is always so exciting when I happen upon antiques with that little bit of romance! I am sharing with: What's It Wednesday
Hi...right now I am moving my studio...after roofing it and cleaning, and preparing.....I am exhausted. The main reason I am so tired...is because I had to move my hoard of supplies....and also we are moving my daughter to the basement...where it will be her bedroom and livingroom/teen pad. These are not my pics ....I will post soon as I can. I just wanted to share some pinterest studio ideas....so much fun and inspiration. These lovely ideas come from this board...click on it to get more info on these and where they came from. It is amazing how many wonderful blogs are out there...you just might find a favorite. My studio just can't be as neat and tidy as these are....but I admire them. I sometimes wonder though....do these rooms get used or are they sitting perfectly for people to see when they visit? Do you ever wonder that? I usually make things work from thrift store finds and some things I actually got when my mom passed. I don't like to have any debt....so I buy when I have the money...I sometimes have to wait a long time....but it is worth it. Yummy vintage things! I told my daughter to not let me buy anything ...even at garage sales....I have too much. Ribbons....I love them and I love every sewing gadget known to woman. Cute! I have sooo many flash cards in my etsy shop/artwork line...but not these ...too cool!

"Is it possible to love the past and live in contemporary comfort? Yes, these rooms reply, most certainly yes." ~Claire Whitcomb I mentioned the changes I made to my room a little while ago and promised pictures of the finished result. I decided that I wanted my room to look a little less disconnected - it happens sometimes that I like so many different things that when they are put together the overall look is a little jumbled. I realized that I wanted there to be more coordination and elegance. I moved my pretty painted pieces out and brought in the grander natural finish of the pieces my Mother has given me: the burled vanity and pretty upholstered chair. My bookcase was instantly claimed by my sister who has I think three or four already (but insists you can never have TOO many bookcases and miraculously fit my little yellow one in with no difficulty). I also replaced the nouveau style iron mirror above my antique nightstand with a fantastic mirror from Paris my Mum discovered for me at an antique shop. The vitrine is the same wood finish as the vanity and nightstand, and holds my collection of pink and green french and european china. The painting of a rose on a book is by my favorite artist and good friend Helen Flont. There are also a few Meadowstreet roses (of course - because I can't go more than three feet without looking at one). I hope you enjoy looking through the pictures. I took quite a few because I am so happy with my new bedroom and there are lots of detail shots. :) Drawing by Jennelise

"It makes no difference abroad, The seasons fit the same, The mornings blossom into noons, And split their pods of flame." ~Emily Dickinson Another busy week of work punctuated with summer fun! I can't believe that in a few days it will be August! Where did July go? --I believe I asked that same question at the end of June. Oh well. Life is good regardless of how quickly time passes. Today I wanted to show you an etsy store that has been one of my favorites for quite some time. Alys owns Paris Couture Antiques where she sells some of the most beautiful European antiques that I have ever seen! Her finds are always unique and stunning with that dash of faded grandeur that never fails to catch the eye! Pictured below are a few of my favorite items from her store - visit yourself to see many, MANY more! (I have also included a little drawing of mine with the photos.) Have a wonderful weekend! I always find some of the prettiest furniture (that I don't need) but have the vision of it being painted white and distressed. As if I need more furniture, I make sure they are pieces that I love just in case I want to swap them out with some of my older ones. Here are 3 that I bought this past week....I just couldn't resist! I still have plans for that chair...but the two chests have a new lease on life! One of the drawers needed repaired so it is still drying. But you get the picture. I have no clue on where I am going to put it yet...but I love it! This little chest called for glass knobs as soon as I seen it! It was a great deal too! Remember this chest? It stuck out too far and made it kind of tight for passers by, not to mention knees, lol. So this little chest fit perfectly! I love the openness of it. The legs match my coffee table too. I love how it turned out and did I mention I love to paint everything white? I still want to make some small appliques for the half moon on the bottom front and sides. It fits in so well with everything so much better. See the difference? Of course I wasn't going to part with this beauty...Hannah got it. Doesn't it look lovely with her bed? Plus she has more drawers to hide her "junk"....and she has plenty of it! I had these book ends that came off of the cornice above my bed once we made the canopy. They were a little too much with the chandelier and all of the frills. I found a new spot for them....the shower! They just give a little something to hide the shower rod. Plus, they look pretty with the shower hooks, don't you think? I just wanted to share my sofa...I love this thing! Hard to believe it is red, green and yellow underneath isn't it? Oh when I look back...I am so happy to be all white now! It makes my heart feel calm.... I have a little fella wanting to play hide and seek...guess who's doing the seeking? So I must go hide.... I hope you all are having a blessed week! I know I am so far...God has been so good to me!
