THE ARGOS catalogue was a small glimpse into the endless shopping opportunities the internet was soon to provide, back in the 1980s. People would spend hours thumbing through the laminated pages of…
Hello stamping friends, I have another sneak peek to share with you from the 2024-2025 Annual catalogue. As a demonstrstor we have access to preorders from new upcoming catalogues. When I first saw the Country Flowers Bundle, I knew it was one that I would love. The stamp set includes two different containers, three foliage and flower stamps, a stool and five greetings. For this card I stamped the front pail and flowers first. I created a mask for the pail and then stamped the stool and the teapot and flowers. I stamped the stool again on a piece of woodgrain card stock from the Country Woods DSP and fussy cut it out. I trimmed the stool so that it would fit behind the front pail. I coloured the image with my Blends Markers and cut out the image with a Deckled Rectangle Die. Happy Easter stamping friends, be sure to pop back soon for more peeks from the new catalogue. If you live in Australia and do not already have a demo, contact me and I can send you your own catalogue as soon as it's available. Happy stamping, Rachel

Neckwear was an important accessory in the Edwardian era. Jabots, collars, ties and scarfs lend variety to the severe shirtwaist, add a splash of color to dark wool dresses and help to keep the dress clean. Collars were usually detachable in the Edwardian era, ‘since the collar soils so much sooner than the waist.’ (Los … Continue reading Edwardian Neckwear: Collars, Jabots & Fichus →

Given that her complete catalogue is composed almost entirely of work she produced as a student, the posthumous critical esteem for American photographer Francesca Woodman is astonishing. Unlike music or math, where precocious displays of talent are not uncommon, photography tends not to have prodigies. Woodman, who committed suicide in 1981 at age 22, is considered a rare exception. That she has achieved such status is all the more remarkable considering only a quarter of the approximately 800 images she produced—many of them self-portraits—have ever been seen by the public.

The Catalogue of Imaginary Beings is an ongoing series of work begun in 2015 that sprung from over twenty years of portraiture and collage work. Now at over 200 plates, the series seeks to explore a range of themes in popular culture, including the role of the individual in fashion, in history, in the artistic imagination and more broadly, the collective consciousness. The body of work draws its inspiration from a wide spectrum of sources, such as Magical Realism, Surrealism, and Symbolism. More specifically, it references cultural artifacts like talismans, idols, totems and all of the material detritus that surrounds us at all times. These characters are composites embodying notions of “the warrior”, vulnerability, industry, the universal, and the personal. They reference these identities as they’ve been depicted historically through art, literature, and commerce.
