Kids and teens who treat others with respect — whether these are their parents, friends, or people they’ve just met — maintain peaceful relationships. Respect can be taught at an early age, especially when they start behaving in ways that may offend others. This respect poster teaches young people ways to show respect to others, including themselves. Respecting other people can look like saying “please” and “thank you” while respecting themselves can be done by following healthy habits and being honest about their feelings. *This item is an instant digital download. Mentor Text of the Week: Up the Creed by Nicholas Oldland Book Overview: This story is about three best friends: bear, moose, and beaver. They finally realize after a long night that working together, they can accomplish so much more than when they disagree and argue. Through this story, we can teach our students the importance of working together, and that it is okay to politely and respectfully disagree with one another. ▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ YOUR WEEK USING THIS UNIT WILL GO A LITTLE LIKE THIS... ⇨ Monday: Students will listen to the read aloud (you, if you own the book -OR- find a YouTube reading!). "I don't know where to begin... This has been an invaluable resource for me as I rebuild classroom community mid year. I have purchased most of the books now because I want my kids to be able to have their hands on them regularly and not just while I have them checked out from the library the week we're covering it. My third graders are applying these character lessons and are taking them to heart. My only regret is not purchasing it sooner!" -Cassandra "This has been so helpful in my class so far this year. My students enjoy the lessons built around the books and has been a great way to enhance our classroom climate. Thank you for such a wonderful product. Students love skits and role-playing! This resource allows your students to help teach one another a very important character trait - perseverance - in a fun way! It consists of one skit (script) that includes four student reading parts and an accompanying poster. Upper elementary students (3rd grade and up) can read this skit over the morning announcements or during an assembly for the whole school to enjoy. Students in kindergarten and up will enjoy and benefit from the skit. You can also use it with upper elementary students in small group and whole group classroom settings. Since students also enjoy adults role-playing, you might assign a reading part for yourself or even find other adults to read the skit with you for younger students. This resource is a great way to teach and reinforce a very important life skill and will also complement any character education program, student of the month program, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. PREPARATION: Low prep! Simply print and make enough copies for each student (or adult) to have one in hand. Assign the parts. It also helps to highlight students’ parts so it is clear when it’s their turn to read. You might also give students the script in advance so they can read through it ahead of time.
