What’s wrong with Christmas? Just about everything, argues the late Christopher Hitchens in this peerlessly grouchy extract from the final volume of his collected essays
Hi stampers! Time for a new As You See It challenge, and it's a color challenge, chosen by me! I just love blues! So here we go: Unfortunately, I needed a sympathy card, so I chose to use my blue hues with the Butterflies & Flowers mask (stencil), using my Blending Brush with each of the three colors on a Basic White panel: I heat-embossed a retired sentiment in white on Pacific Point for my sentiment, then cut it out with the new Stylish Shapes dies; it went on the panel which was also diecut and mounted on a scalloped panel of Night of Navy: I used a card base of Balmy Blue and a white mat, embossed with the Ornate Flowers embossing folder...sadly retiring. It makes such a lovely floral background! My final addition was some pale blue sequins from my stash and a white baker's twine bow! My sketch came from FMS: I hope you'll play along with us. The design team has outdone themselves with this color palette...they've used them in some surprising ways! Be sure to check them out at the As You See It blog! Thanks so much for popping in today! Enjoy it and be blessed! Project Details—All Products SU! Good morning everyone. Hope you are all well and ready for the festivities. I have had a good week, so far, so have made the most of it by getting some cards done and the postal ones sent. Thank you for your comments on Nesta's Diwali card. I'm going to have a go at the DCWV Luminaries in the next few days as I wanted them for display at Christmas. I'll have to put a photo of the house across the road on the blog. Every year, there is a new set of lights added to the existing display, which must drain the National Grid and cost them a fortune in electricity. Its that bright, we don't actually need to put our light on, unless we're reading lol!!! Now, this is the first of many Christmas makes. I made this for Davey (he's had it so its ok to show) and Mr D liked it so much, he asked me to do one exactly the same for his brother and partner. I have to admit, I've gone a bit daft with poinsettias this year, as you will see on future posts. Ingredients Cream, burgundy and gold mirror card SB Layered Poinsettia dies Cheery Lynn Holly Flourish SB Classic Ovals CE Snowflake Lattice embossing folder Dovecraft sentiment stamp Rhubarb Stalk Memento Dewdrop ink Gold Krylon Pen Pearlage The card is 7x7. I put them in an 8x8 envelope but make them 7x7 if there is a lot of depth or florals on them so they don't end up squeezed in the envelope. I was really pleased with how it turned out and Davey was a happy boy. I think this is what then set me off on my poinsettia fettish this year. Well, that's me for now. Its Wednesday evening as I'm typing and my hot Ribena has just arrived as my pre-bed tipple. Hope your festive plans are all going well. Its a full time job keeping Mr D away from the biscuits and chocolates for the next 10 days lol!!! TTFN Ang x

I have been asked by several people to do a tutorial on how I make my flowers. So here we go !!! I thought I'd show you how I made the Leaves and flowers in the card above Please bear with me it is very photo heavy !!! I used the Majestic Morning Flower Stamp and die, The Open Leaf stamp set and Classic Leaf die from Heartfelt Creations. First of all we need to make a mask of the die. Take a piece of card and tape the die to it using a low tack tape. Run this through your die cutting machine. Remove the flowers and you will have this attached to your die. DO NOT remove it. Now take another piece of card. I use a lightweight card, sadly it isn't weighted but the heavier you use the harder it is to shape. And the lighter it is the easier it is to tear when shaping !!! The Heartfelt Creations paper pads do make fantastic flowers ! Stamp the image onto the card. Take your die and mask and lay the mask over the stamped image. Line it up so that the die will cut exactly around the image. Adhere the mask and die down to the image with low tack tape so that the mask doesn't move. Run this through your die cutting machine. It will cut the flowers out like below. Now take your flowers and colour them up. First of all I go over the centres applying a light colouring using ink. I then apply heavier ink around the edges to give a shading. When all your flowers are coloured they need to be shaped. Take your shaping tool and mat. Turn the flower so the back is facing upwards and in a gently circular motion shape each petal. The flower will curl upwards. When you have shaped all the petals, turn the flower over so the inked side faces up. Using a circular motion shape the centre of the flower. This allows the petals to come upwards whilst still curving outwards. Now heat up your glue gun and with hot glue fill the centre of your flower. Pour beads onto the Hot glue while still hot ! And leave to dry. Remove any excess beads. I use a tray to do this part with so that the beads don't go everywhere ! Now using glitter glue, Glitter the edges of the flowers. Now for the leaves .......... Use the same process to make a mask and cut out a stamped image. Again using ink, colour very lightly over the die cut. Now using heavier ink, just colour the edges of the leaves. Your fingers get very messy !!! To shape the leaves lay the leaf down so the white side is face up. Using gentle circular motions shape each leaf so that they curl up. Now turn the leaf over and gently smooth along the stalk of the leaf so that the whole leaf lays flat with each leaf still curved. And there you have it ! All you then need to do is adhere your flowers and leaves to your project ! Here is the card from the beginning to remind you ! Hope that helped. Happy Crafting !

Writing about San Antonio Texas as part of my Texas Travel Series was something I felt pretty excited to tackle because I was born and lived in San Antonio for 18 years. All about almonds Loved in both sweet and savoury dishes, almonds are high in calcium and packed full of protein. In fact, eating raw almonds can even lower bad cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease, provide protection against cardiovascular disease and diabetes and boost energy. Buy them either whole, shelled, raw, blanched, sliced, slivered, dry-roasted or ground to add to your dishes. Almonds can be stored in the fridge or freezer for up to nine months. Almond and honey slice This crunchy slice pairs up a crumby almond meal shortbread base with a crunchy honey and slivered almond top. Easy to make and a favourite for picnics, this is sure to become a hit with all who try it. Almond and Honey Slice Almond crusted chicken breast in mango sauce Almonds are an ideal companion to savoury dishes as well as sweet In this highly rated recipe, blanched almonds are added with butter and cream of chicken soup mix to make a delicious coating for chicken breasts. When baked, and doused in the zesty mango and ginger sauce, this dish becomes something truly special. Almond Crusted Chicken Breast in Mango Sauce Almond and honey flapjacks This recipe is an example of British flapjacks, muesli-style slices, at their best. Made with almonds, rolled oats and honey, it is easy to make, a dream to transport and absolutely delicious. Try adding some diced dried apricot or glace ginger to the mix for even more flavour. Almond and Honey Flapjacks Almond and apricot cookies If you've always wanted to recreate those crumbly café-style biscuits at home then this is the recipe for you. For an even more decadent touch try adding a cup of white chocolate chunks to the mix. Make it even more decedent by serving with double cream and a healthy scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Its fudgy almond top and crisp shortbread base are also ideal drizzled with melted white chocolate for a more decadent take on this classic. Almond Slice Raspberry and almond cake Fudgy, dense and moist, this cake requires a little bit of effort but is thoroughly worth the work. Including both almond meal and flaked almond, it has texture and crunch that contrasts perfectly with the sweet raspberries. To make it even more impressive, and to add more crunch, try standing a layer of blanched almond around the inside of the cake ring before adding the mix. Raspberry and Almond Cake Almond biscuits If you love almond biscuits with your afternoon coffee, then this recipe is sure to make you very happy. Unlike most almond recipes, this one doesn't include any butter, resulting is crisp almond biscuits that are utterly moreish. Almond Biscuits Have a sweet tooth?
