All the things I Love! Vintage...Shabby Chic..and PINK!!! Cats & Pretty things too.....
Hello everyone, Hope you had a lovely weekend. We enjoyed Christmas concerts that our grandchildren were in and a sleepover with a couple of little ones this weekend. Today, I decided it was time to decorate our Boathouse for Christmas and this year it is a winter white theme. I still have more to do in here but I will show you my fun for the day! This is one of my favorite places to be ....the reading nook. The stockings are hung. The fireplace castsa cozy glow but alas, no heat. I use an electric header to take out the chill this time of year. Curl up and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa. I still have some fluffing to do and I hope to do the rest of the Boathouse in white before we get to much snow. Our Boathouse last winter. Although we had some snow a couple of weeks it has since melted but a new supply is expected tonight. Hope you enjoyed our little Boathouse in it's winter white attire. Take care, Carolyn

"White...is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black... God paints in many colours; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white." -- G. K. Chesterton White is capable of endless subtleties; ever fresh, ever responsive, it is the only color that can fill the whole house with beauty without becoming irritating, strident, or tiresome. To decorate a house of a room with white means that we exchange a range of colors for a palette of subtleties, a spectrum of refinements. The absence of color in white not only makes us focus on variations in tone, it increases our awareness of differences in texture ~ rough, smooth, substantial and fragile, shiny and matte ~ on the light and shadow that play on every surface. White is an invitation for us to extend our imagination, to reconsider outworn rules, to capture the delicate, to perpetuate the illusive, to step into privacy and calm, a world of our own invention. We've been talking about white over here. A lot. I used to be a girl that liked a lot of color...dark colors. White was just an accent. Now, I prefer more, much more, the simplicity of white. White cheers me up, it calms me down, it is peaceful and serene, it is uncluttered, it lets my chosen accents be seen. That is why I love white. Hej mina fina! = *LYCKA*

Hello everyone, It is a dull damp November day here and I can't take any photos indoors today so I picked out some of my past favorites of a White Christmas. I hope you enjoy them. Above, is a shot of the Boathouse conservatory a few years ago.I went with a Nordic look then but last year it was an English Country Christmas look.I am still thinking about this years look in our tiny conservatory. You can check out the English Country look here. The Boathouse Christmas nook. This was one of my favorite shots last year as there was a nice coat of snow but no ice on the pond yet so there is a nice reflection in the water. Another angle in the conservatory showing my $5 rusty iron chandelier. My oldest daughter wore these little skates when she was learning to skate. Our bedroom decorated for Christmas a couple of years ago. A snowy white Christmas. I painted the old skates and added fur trim with hot glue' I have to confess I love a snowy white Christmas. A winter white tea in our sunroom.....get cozy under a furry white throw. As, I look out at the brown and grey of November I am looking forward to a nice coat of fluffy white stuff but I know many don't agree with me on that one! Hopefully, in the next day or two I will have some new shots of my decorating progress from this year. Take care, Carolyn

Whether you are traveling or will remain at home this Christmas, it is always thoughtful to think of those whose services you require on a regular basis, for a well-mannered traveler is always grateful for good service. Beyond a spoken thank you, tipping is essential in many cases, and for services above and beyond, a handwritten thank you note is always an elegant and appreciative touch. As for your regular go-to services at home, it is a wonderful gesture to […]

Old door trim holds vintage photos of family members My bad, It has been months since I last posted but I am back. Thanks for your patience and for prodding me to post updates of my little retreat, my girl cave, my she-she shack. Simplicity is a word familiar to tiny house enthusiasts. Many tiny house residents are pleased to announce that they have become minimalists in their quest to simplify their life. I can not say that I would be excited about being a minimalist. When Slabtown Customs was building my home I saw that as a good reason to go shopping. I helped support the economy as well as small local businesses. Oh, and I helped clean up a few curbs from what others dis guarded as trash. I had fun collecting vintage items to re purpose and up cycle for my new tiny retreat. Giving a vintage item a new life is recycling in it's purest form while preventing it from being tossed in the landfill. I will back track in future posts and show you some of the ways I up cycled my vintage finds. I will show you how I turned trash into treasures for my tiny house. Here is a partial list of my future posts. Christmas in my tiny house -2013 Entertaining in a very tiny home My tiny house bathroom, complete with a tiny tub, sink and toilet A tiny house with a master loft and a guest loft A 8 x 18 tiny house that sleeps up to 5 people Tiny house storage solutions The importance of a normal size front door Creating the vintage look in a tiny house My kitchen cabinets & counter project Making chandeliers to add bling to my tiny house A curb side find, becomes a bedroom set for a tiny master loft 8 chandeliers in a tiny house Paint recommendations for a tiny house Shabby Cottage turns beach cottage Room on the porch Adding shutters and flower boxes to your tiny house OK, are you ready to see what I have been up to since the last time I posted? Here are some pictures of the interior of my tiny home. I am an amateur blogger and have not figured out how to make the pictures larger. It could take till Jan for me to figure that out. Any tips from you pro's are welcome. Sorry about that. And now, with great joy I present to you..."my menopause cave". I just love my front porch My reading nook A cozy spot to curl up for a nap An old chippy door transformed into a fireplace My shabby little fireplace My teeny tiny bathroom A ladder that blends into the bookshelf My galley style kitchen View from the back of my tiny house An apartment size refrigerator and nice size freezer Crystal handles and knobs add bling and sparkle to kitchen cabinets Kitchen shelves with custom brackets Double kitchen sink and 2 burner electric stove top Book & storage shelf Vintage valances work well to hide clutter Big clock in a TINY house The great room Vintage screen door repurposed as a pantry door One of my favorite pieces - an old farm table more than 200 years old The views from my reading nook So there you have it.... my little retreat that sits on my land in beautiful WA State.
