Firstly, thank you to all my readers who stopped by and made a comment on my Mariner's Compass Quilt. I have decided to put it away for a week or two and then I will probably unpick and re-align some of the points. I will be much happier then! Now for my latest achievement. I am very proud to add this quilt to my list of finishes for 2010! I have posted about this quilt before so I am sorry you are getting a strange feeling of deja vu! But it is finally finished! I had purchased the Alexander Henry owl fabric ages ago and wanted to make it into something special. The pattern came from the first of the Material Obsessions books- the pattern was called Strawberry Fields. In retrospect I don't think the fabric choices were perfect but I was guided by the girls at my LQS. What has made it special though is the amazing quilting by Karen at "Quilts on Bastings". She was even generous enough to feature last month it recently on Amy's Quilt Bloggers Festival. Look at that beautiful quilting! Yesterday I spent nearly 4 hours machine and hand sewing the binding on. I love the spirals in the centre of the stars! Why do they remind me of pavlova? I forgot to take photos of the back. I chose a very plain monotone print but again Karen has made that a feature by quilting in different colors to great effect! This will surely become a family heirloom! What are you working on? Have a happy day! SUZ
I haven't spent much time at home over the last two weeks, so crafting time has been limited! I spent some time placing and moving blocks around on my Carisbrook Cabin quilt. And trying it out with a black-and-white photo. Even after I had sewn the rows together I continued rearranging them. I know it's not perfect, but we know what they say..... "Better done than perfect!" I want to get it basted and quilted real soon! Happy days! SUZ

While I may not be spending so much of my $$$$ on fabric this year.... hearing inspirational quilters speak and share their quilts is high on my list! Cutting Cloth in Fairfield was one of the stops on Kaffe Fassett's (rhymes with 'safe asset') latest tour. The shop... and restaurant venue were adorned with all his Love that green! glorious colour! The quilting was only on the purple solid-minimal but so effective I'll be honest, I own very little Kaffe fabric.... I'd love to make something like this! but I love his graphic designs, use of colour and Fabulous use of a 16-patch and border fabric simple quilting! And the battings are so thin, apparently good for travelling! Of course, there was the obligatory book signing! and photo op! Thanks Kellie for a very memorable evening! Happy sewing! SUZ
After about twenty hours of quilting my "Hindsight 2020" quilt is finished. And in hindsight, I probably shouldn't have chosen to do this spiral quilting. Given the way my thoughts go round and round in the middle of the night, during these trying times, spiral quilting was appropriate, I guess! I lost count of how many bobbins I wound.... I scrounged through all my thread supplies, not wanting to buy anymore unless absolutely necessary! I quilted each line half an inch apart, and the quilt is 66" square. So I went round and round over 130 times!! The weather has taken a turn for the worst this week, with winter not far away... so it's indoor photos today! These photos show the quilting very well.... and the backing! And I curved the corners to echo the curvy quilting lines. Quilt #5 for 2020 Lifetime quilt #123 66" square Mystery quilt pattern from South Australia Quilt Guild Happy sewing! SUZ

I'm away on a little road trip but I couldn't wait until I got home to share my latest finish! My lovely Aurifil threads! Hard to beat black and white binding! I'm trying to perfect the quilt swirl! These photos are taken outside Lakes Entrance, in the east of Victoria, in a region called Gippsland. I think the fold lines came from it sitting in the warm car on its little road trip! I like the way the hexie shapes highlight the lovely Heather Ross prints. There was a bit of wrangling getting those side triangles pieced in, requiring some 'y seams'..... and maybe a bit of unpicking! #**!! I'm not one to shy away from a challenge. Maybe you can see the double rows of quilting in this photo? These photos are taken in Metung, a beautiful fishing village long on my bucket list! I have tentatively named it Violet Crumble but I will finally decide when I get home to make a label. It's always nice to have a close-up of the backing and the binding... And here's a better photo of the quilting lines, 1/4" on either side of the hexagons. Is there anything nicer than taking a quilt with you on the road trip? This one certainly came in handy for afternoon naps after a long day of walking! I'm looking forward to getting home to start a new quilt! Happy sewing! Eye 'N Seek is a figure ground game with a "twist", and six ways to play over two levels of difficulty! The big plastic eye on the front of the box is intriguing, but it's just a decoration. The goal of the game is to find the image(s) from the picture cards faster than your opponent(s). The wheel cards measure about 6.5" x 6.5". One side of the card is green and the other side is orange. Each side is covered with small images, but also include three oval windows. You can see these windows better in the image above than in my picture below. However, there are more small images that show in the windows than in the image above, more like my picture below. Also, the windows on the orange side are bigger than the green and show more images. There is a movable circle printed with these small images inside the card. Put your finger on the side of the wheel and pull down to make the wheel inside turn and change the images you see in the oval windows. The picture cards come in two colors, green and orange, 50 of each color. The green picture cards each show one image and will be played with on the green side of the card. The orange picture cards each show two images and will be played with on the orange side. The images may be different sizes and are generally in different orientations, but the coloring matches. After playing a few games I realized that all the wheels are the same, meaning that the pictures for each player will be in the exact same location on the movable wheel. Using this information, I was able to sort out specific cards that I wanted the players to find in specific windows. If three windows are too many to watch, start with one window, or on the green side there are two windows that are close to the bottom. I often use that one to start and then I pick out the cards that will appear in those two windows ahead of time. Left: Wheel card. Right: Picture card. Play: Variation 1 Mix 18 cards and stack them in the middle. Give each player a wheel card. Players all look on their wheel card for the image on the top card. Turn the wheel as mentioned above to make the images move across the three windows. Play either all green cards, all orange cards, or a mix of the two. Player with the most cards after all 18 have been found is the winner. Variation 2 Play as in variation 1, except the last person to find the image gets the card. Person with the fewest cards at the end is the winner. This variation will take longer and may have a lot of down time as you wait on other players. Variation 3 Players take turns being the leader for each round. The leader looks at his card and describes one of the images in one of his windows. Don't name the item, just give description clues like it wears a hat and it lives in the snow. The first player to find a matching image on his card gets a point. First person to win five points is the winner. Variation 4 Randomly choose 6 cards and place them in a line so that all players can see them all. Use either all green cards, all orange or a mix. Players race to find images from the cards. When a player finds an image, they take the card. Do this three times, making a total of 18 cards. Player with the most cards at the end is the winner. Variation 5 Players take turns being the leader for each round. The leader will look at his card and pick out any one image. They will tell the first letter of the image they are looking at. The first player to find any image that starts with the same letter wins a point. First player to earn five points is the winner. Variation 6 Players take turns being the leader for each round. The leader will look at his card and pick out any one image. They will give a word that rhymes with the picture. The first player to find any image that rhymes with the leaders word gets a point. First player to win five points wins the game. Try this: Model how to hold coordinate holding the card and turning the wheel. Start by finding pictures on the big circle on the front of the card, without turning the wheel and looking in the windows. You will have to go through the cards ahead of time and pick out the matches because not all of the images are shown. Put more than one card out to look for and try to keep several items in mind at the same time. Choose one item to look for on the orange side. Once you find that item, then look in the other windows to see if you can find the match, turning the wheel slowly so that the first item does not disappear from its window. Sometimes there are two of an item so that once you find the first item, the second item will not necessarily show up in another window. Just keep looking. Work on visual discrimination, figure ground, visual form constancy, visual scanning, eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, two-handed activity, executive functioning skills, process skills, socialization skills, play and leisure exploration and participation In the box: 6 double-sided wheels, 100 picture cards If you are interested in purchasing this game or just want more information, click on the image below.
