Clowns inspire laughter and happiness in some people, and fear or aversion in many others. They have been around for more than 4,000 years and in nearly as many places and cultures, entertaining or…
Self-portrait, 1927. Her shirt says, “I am in training, don’t kiss me.” While David Bowie will always be my very first cultural touchstone of avant-garde androgyny, it’s Claude Cahun that’s my absolute favorite. And I’m sure Bowie would approve. He once said of Cahun, “You could call her transgressive or you could call her a cross dressing Man Ray with surrealist tendencies. I find this work really quite mad, in the nicest way.” You don’t really get much of a better recommendation than that, and looking as alien and draggy as anything Mr. Rebel Rebel ever dreamed of, her many photographic incarnations are just mesmerizing. Born in 1894 as Lucy Renee Mathilde Schwob in Nantes, France, she was from a family of artistic Jewish intellectuals. Cahun chose her pseudonym for its unisex ambiguity—the surname was her paternal grandmother’s, who raised her, as Cahun’s mother struggled with mental illness. Her life-long artistic collaborator, romantic partner, and step-sister, Suzanne Malherbe, went by Marcel Moore, and together they fostered a true avant-garde community, hosting salons in their Paris home. Weirdness!
"Carousel Ringmaster II" On this ringmaster's carousel you will find a unicorn, narwhal, snail and a black swan. Every print has a white border around the image and is ready to be popped into a standard frame. PLEASE NOTE: My images are reproduced according to the scale/proportions of the original painting. Most prints will fit into standard frame sizes and will show a little of the white border, the print title and the signature. A little tip: Many frame shops that sell pre-made frames will also sell standard size mats that may fit your print or they may trim a standard mat to fit the image to your liking. All prints are titled and signed and will arrive safely packaged in a stiff mailer. ***If you are ordering more than one paper print, I will use the fewest cello bags possible (putting multiple prints in the same bag), unless you state that you need them bagged separately. This will allow me to cut down on packaging waste. Thank you!*** © 2024 Heather Renaux - All work is protected by copyright.
ive noticed jax's face looks like a layer of silicone. do you think he would be able to take it off to reveal a yellow exoskeleton underneath? We're all too familiar with peeled Jax.
