I had so much fun creating this Modern Calm Colors Classroom decor theme and wanted to give you a closer look inside the decor bundle!
If you’re midway through your summer break, I hope this finds you with a cocktail or mocktail in hand! But if you’re anything like me, you’re probably also starting to dream about what next year will look like. So today I’m sharing five of the best classroom themes you need on your Pinterest board. And don’t worry if it hasn’t crossed your mind yet, I’ve got you covered! Start With a Colour Scheme There are endless options when it comes to choosing a theme - but I see themes a little differently than some of the ideas you see on Pinterest. Rather than choosing an alliterative theme based on my name, like ‘Miss Jacobs’ Giraffes’ or ‘Chantelle’s Sharks’ I tend to start with an overall colour palette. It all starts with colour! Starting with a colour palette in mind means your theme is broad and can flex with the seasons throughout the school year. You can easily carry a colour palette through your different lessons, occasions, communications and displays, without having to hunt too hard for niche graphics and decor. (Thank goodness too - I’m sure there’s no such thing as good giraffe decor!). Take Cues From Home Decor Once I’ve chosen a colour palette, I then enable my Target addiction and have a little scroll through what’s new in their homewares section. It’s like a sampling platter of the latest trends and I find it sparks all kinds of ideas. (Tell me I’m not the only person to find Target inspiring!). Bigger home decor items help embed a theme with little effort - consider rugs, storage carts and bulletin boards for displaying student work. While I try not to buy too much, each year I grab a few things that I’d be happy to bring home after the school year is out. 1. Neutrals Classroom Theme Pinterest-Worthy Classroom Theme 1 The first Pinterest-worthy classroom theme is all about neutrals - think taupes, beige tones and lots of organic textures. This palette would pair best with my Spotty Neutrals, Boho Vibes, Earthy Rainbow and Boho Plants ranges. Here’s a perfect example of pinterest-worthy neutrals mixed with Boho Vibes lettering display and editable posters from @miss_grosse_! Products that will help you achieve this look: 2. Plant and Greenery Classroom Theme Pinterest-Worthy Classroom Theme 2 Next up - we have a green and neutral palette. Plants are huge right now - which feels like a funny thing to say, but it’s true! Mixing natural green tones with earthy neutrals feel fresh, modern and relaxing. This colour palette pairs best with my Boho Plants and Botanical ranges. Here’s a gorgeous example of earthy goodness from @teachingwithmissblechynden. Stunning! Products that will help you achieve this look: 3. Pastels Classroom Theme Pinterest-Worthy Classroom Theme 3 A pastel theme is always popular and for good reason! It’s calming, pretty and there are so many sweet office supplies and decor items available in pastels. If you want to be pedantic (*cough* like me), aim for pastels with a cool base or a warm base, rather than mixing both. It just ties everything together. The best MJLL items for a pastel theme are definitely the Spotty Pastels and Modern Rainbow ranges. A fantastic illustration of how pastel themes come to life with decor, from @teachingwithmissburford. Products that will help you achieve this look: 4. Rainbow Classroom Theme Pinterest-Worthy Classroom Theme 4 Rainbow themes are pure fun - almost anything goes! My tips is to choose a select number of colours so it’s not too overwhelming. And embrace clashing patterns! Modern hues of navy, mustard and burgundy are fun, but then again, classic primary colours always will work too! I’d recommend my Spotty Brights or Tropical ranges for a rainbow theme. Check out this stunning Rainbow theme created using my Spotty Brights Affirmation Station and vibrant rainbow classroom decor, from @missj_primary_teacher. Products that will help you achieve this look: 5. Earthy Classroom Theme Pinterest-Worthy Classroom Theme 5 And finally - an earthy palette with rich berry hues, mustards, brick colours and emeralds gives a lovely lush aesthetic. And you’ll have plenty of MJLL themes to pair it with - my Spotty Neutrals, Boho Vibes, Earthy Rainbow and Boho Plants ranges all work with this colourway. How good are the earthy vibes in @teachingwithmissamanda’s dreamy classroom? Products that will help you achieve this look: One Last Thought Now I’m the first to admit that Pinterest doesn’t always represent the reality of our classrooms. In fact, it rarely does! So BFFs, let’s just agree to take Pinterest for what it is - a huge collection of ideas and inspiration. Our classrooms will always be busier, noisier and messier than those perfect pins we see, and that’s more than okay. If our students are happy, safe and learning - that’s all that matters! There are thousands of ideas on my Pinterest, so I humbly recommend you make the most of my addiction! And once you’ve landed on the colour scheme for you next classroom, make sure you head to my website to see which of my collections and resources will compliment it best. If you have any questions - I’m always here to help!

I am obsessed with all things related to decor, and I love to use the latest home decor trends to design decor for the classroom. One of my favorite lines is the Studio McGee line at Target. I just love her show and love everything she comes up with. It's very calming, classic, and cozy, which are all elements I want to bring into the classroom. The Vintage Green Classroom Decor line was inspired by this look, and everything would pair perfectly with her decor line in Target. Let's look at Vintage Green and talk about ways to make your classroom calming for your students and a place that feels like home. Did you know that green is one of the most calming colors? Scientists believe our eyes are at the peak of perception to detect the wavelengths of the color green. With less strain to perceive the colors, our nervous system can relax when perceiving the tone. Therefore, green may calm us down. Vintage green has lots of greens, blues, and browns, with elements of calming plants. My favorite background to use with this set is brown craft paper. You can find this on Amazon, Hobby Lobby, or your local teacher store. I loved pairing the painted dots border to tie in the black from the text. For the outside of the boards, I used this eucalyptus border to incorporate the plants from the set. I like to put pennants above my boards and focus walls to tie everything together. You could just choose one pattern for your pennants or do a mixture like I did here. There are a few different alphabet options in the set, including cursive. You get number posters and banners, also including 2D and 3D shape and color posters. There are these letter banners in the pack that you can use to label your different focus walls or boards. I like to always include these motivational posters in my classroom decor sets. This one has a plant theme, of course. You can print these as mini posters to create a gallery wall or you could print them as large posters and frame with your bulletin board border. These little drawers are just so handy. I don't know how I lived without them before. These are editable, so that you can label your drawers based on your needs. The olive plants on the drawers tie the Studio McGee olive plant in perfectly! My students used the number line all the time, so I made sure to include that. It goes from 0-120. I usually put it below my alphabet. I love for my teacher binders to match my decor sets, so I had to design these. They are editable so that you can label them to fit your binders. Keep in mind that if you do get this pack, you will also have to go download these fonts if you want to use them for editing. I can't share them due to the artists' terms of use. I am really particular about choosing fonts that fit the theme of the decor. Label EVERYTHING! It helps ensure your classroom stays organized and clean, as well as helps students aid in cleaning up throughout the day. I like to use twine with this set to tie the labels to the baskets. There are those paper documents that you need during back to school time, as well as all throughout the year, but what is more fun than making it match your classroom theme?! You get an editable Meet the Teacher form, welcome letter, supply list, newsletter template, and calendars for the year. There are also blank templates to create notes that you might need to send home. There is a full calendar and number of the day set. The classroom library labels include themed labels for your library bins and student numbers for student book bins. You get a word wall with Fry's first 1000 words. The birthday board is editable. You can either write or type the students' names on the cards and hang them under each month. I have always been a big fan of using hand signals with my students. This set matches the decor and comes in so handy when students need something. You can see that there are also voice volume posters and rules posters. You can edit these in case you have different rules or voice levels you like to use. If you can hang things from your ceiling in your classroom, these fans are super cute with the large table labels. If not, you could attach these to baskets and put them in the center of the tables for storage. There are multiple options for desk name plates. There are also some plain ones with no hundreds chart or alphabet. It's so welcoming to send postcards to your new students over the summer if you can. These match your decor and are editable! I like to have somewhere in my room or in the hallway to display student work, so I use these number labels. I just attach them to clothespins and hot glue them to the wall. Finally, you can tie it all together with this door decor below. Type students names on the circles and place on your classroom door. There is even more to see in the Vintage Green Classroom Decor Bundle. You can see more by downloading the preview on the listing. It's one of my favorites and is sure to make your classroom feel calm, cozy, and like a home away from home. Your students will feel safe and cared for in your classroom as soon as they walk in! Thank you for stopping by!
Everybody can have an attractive classroom, even if it has no windows, even if you’re not a decorator, and even if admin assigned you the ugliest room on the hall!
Are you ‘old school’ when it comes to your classroom seating layout? Do you prefer small groups or an arrangement that leaves space in the middle? Here are just a few of the many (many) variations out there.
A few years ago, I was researching ideas for a flexible seating high school classroom set up when I came across a 1998 research study by Glen Earthman and Linda Lemasters titled "Where Children Learn: A Discussion of How a Facility Affects Learning." While the authors addressed the challenges with this type of participant-based data, they

Whether you’re a grad teacher, or you’ve been in the gig for years, it’s always a great help to yourself – and your students – to start your school year on the right foot. And especially after the mess that 2020 was, I thought a little reminder, or a mindful prompt, might be just what you need! So, if you’re looking for tips for a successful school set up – you’ve come to the right place! 1. Getting (and staying) organised! It’s something that either floats your boat, or has you rolling your eyes. But deeeep in our souls, we know being organised helps everything run a little more smoothly, and just as importantly, helps us to adapt and pivot in the classroom when we need to! (…which is everyday, amiright??) 😎 When our homes are a schmozzle, our life feels a bit like one too, right? So it makes total sense that the same goes for our classrooms. It might only mean spending five or ten minutes after school ensuring that everything is in its place and ready for the next day. Better still – including student in this organisational aspect throughout the day not only helps you stay on top of things, but also teaches *them* to take pride in their classrooms! Win/win I say!! 👊🏼 As you can imagine, I’m all about good-lookin’ organisation!! And it’s probably obvious – I’m obsessed with making classroom decor that will assist teachers to create an amazing learning environment, but just as importantly, save teachers time, stress, and keep them organised!!! If all this talk about getting organised is stirring a little something in your heart, check out some of my favourite (and most helpful IMO!) resources: I love my Teacher Trolley Drawer Labels I use my Teacher Toolbox Labels in the classroom *and* my home (goodbye kids craft corner chaos!!) And also my Binder Covers and Spines which come in seven styles. 2. Rules, rules, rules! When you’re focusing on a successful school set up, the first few weeks of the school year are usually spent setting classroom routines and expectations. And then the tricky part – upholding them! I’ve found framing classroom rules in a positive way – ‘we sit on the floor nicely’, rather than ‘don’t talk on the mat’ – really helps students to remember what they are being asked to do, rather than them only knowing what they shouldn’t be doing. Creating classroom rules WITH your students helps them to feel a sense of responsibility and means they are more likely to hold themselves accountable. I’ve always found it helpful to keep rules clear, simple and not too long a list! I like to focus on kindness, safety and respect. If you’re teaching the younger years, you could always make these values as suggestions, then with your students, brainstorm what these ideas look like in action. Then together you could turn them into rules. I also like to use a phrase that can be repeated to and by the children over the course of the year. It might look something like: “We take care of ourselves, each other, our school and our world.” If in the first few weeks, you break it down with the kids, and they understand what ‘taking care’ of these important aspects of their lives looks like, it can be used later on as a gentle reminder when they might be about to make a poor choice. Just to make life a little easier, and your classroom a whole lot more beautiful, I’ve got several Editable Classroom Poster Sets available in my store (as well as in my Decor Bundles!) which you can use to display your classroom rules. 3. Kids wanna play all day! We all know how important it is, but sometimes we can get lost in the busyness of our days, and forget to include some opportunities for play in our planning. So here is a little reminder for you as to why play is just so beneficial. – Play helps reduce stress. Just because they’re smaller than us, doesn’t mean kids don’t get stressed easily. We’re all humans. Play releases feel-good hormones, putting your students in a positive, joyful mood. Positivity is contagious, so spread it around like glitter!!! – What I love most about play? Our students are still learning while they play, they just don’t realise it! Play also improves brain function and helps boost their creativity. – Play allows students to build interpersonal skills and strengthen their connections with their classmates. It allows them to practice problem solving, compromising and negotiation skills. In a sense, play at a young age is setting up our students *for life*! – Playing with your students is also a beautiful way to develop your relationship with them as their teacher. It also gives you a peek into the way their minds work. As adults, we don’t often make time for playing, so we forget how therapeutic it can be. To begin with, it can feel a little awkward, but like many things, the more you do it, the easier it gets!! And if you feel like you might forget about scheduling play? I can guarantee you, your students wont forget! 🤣 I like to plan out my days so that the students can see a visual representation of what’s on – so why not add a visual reminder for yourself! My Editable Visual Timetables include over 120 various daily classroom activities and subjects to assist you in visually displaying an outline for the school day so that your children will be able to keep track of their day. It also comes with clock faces (digital and analogue) for you to display beside each activity so that your students will know what time each activity begins and ends. 4. Get to know your kids! Of course, as teachers, we spend the entire year getting to know our students, before farewelling and entrusting them into another teacher’s hands. The first few days and weeks of school are imperative for developing strong, positive relationships with students. You have the chance to *really* get to know them. And the easiest way to do this? Find out what they love. Their favourite memory from their summer holidays. What makes them tick. And, then going forward, make a point to engage with them about the things they love. It’ll make them feel like a million dollars! And you’ll be pretty much guaranteeing yourself a successful school set up! A simple way of uncovering more about your students is with my Back to School Activities Pack. Here you’ll not only find templates for exploring each students’ strengths and goals, but also activities around your school’s values, and helping students along with their morning routines. It’s a whopping 54 pages of back to school goodness right there! 5. A little bit of self care goes a long, long way! There’s no tired like ‘Teacher Tired’, but Term 1 Teacher Tired is like no other. Having up to 20 kids in your care for hours at a time, that’ll exhaust you! Managing their varying energy levels, mixed emotions, lessons, interruptions – a day in the life of a teacher can be an absolute whirlwind. My advice? After years of learning the hard way (!) – give yourself 10 minutes in the morning to do something that calms you. Listening to a guided meditation on the Headspace app. Some cat-cow poses. Time to drink your coffee mindfully. Whatever works for you. Just make it a habit. Something that you know will fill your cup in the morning, before you start pouring out to others. As teachers, we’re great at following a plan and sticking to a schedule. So don’t forget to schedule in some time to do what you love – exercising, getting crafty and creative, socializing, bath and candles, shopping, Netflix – whatever it is that lights you up and fills your cup. Be kind to yourself, friend. Do you have any other helpful tips for a successful school set up? Feel free to comment below, I’d love to hear them!! Chantelle -XXX-

This is my 11th year teaching secondary English, and my 5th year in my second school district. I started from scratch when I moved to my current school, but I didn't really decorate during my first year (see picture below). It wasn't unit three summers ago that I did a big makeover thanks to the
It’s not just another classroom with neutral colours, stones, and baskets. We live in Muskoka and our environment as the third teacher reflects our culture of living and how we encourage chil…
