Cynheidre Colliery was a coal mine located in the Gwendraeth valley, in Carmarthenshire, South Wales. Opened in 1954, it closed in 1989. Cynheidre was developed by the National Coal Board as one of the West Wales super pits alongside Abernant Colliery in the River Amman valley, a postWorld War II

Newtown Colliery, Pendlebury was sunk around 1875 by Clifton & Kersley Coal Co. Manchester Collieries wanted to close the pit in 1943 due to losses. The Ministry of Fuel and Power agreed on partial closure, underwriting any losses. The colliery closed in March 1961, 476 men losing their jobs.
