QUEENSLAND - 1903 New Denomination Four Figures 9d coral-pink imperforate plate proof BW #Q43(E)1A on ungummed watermarked paper, margins close to good, Cat $2500+. Apparently the imperf proofs were printed only in this colour. Most of the plate proofs, in various colours, were perforated. [The ACSC states "Many of the proofs are defaced with pen-lines", as was the case with Colonel Harrie Evans' and Sir Gawaine Baillie examples. This may be the only non-defaced example we have offered] The design was not approved. Instead the 9d 'COMMONWEALTH' design intended to be issued by all the States was selected.
