I've always dreamed of having a creative studio. In my head, my workspace features a big collaboration table smack dab in the middle of the room surrounded by storage and organization for all my vintage decor. In the past, we've never had the right space to create a work studio. However now that we've found our new home, my workspace dreams are going to become a reality!

I'm off to the farm this week to paint trim and stain the floor in the studio - the last bit of work to do before I can start setting up the space. Since there's really not much to show, I thought I'd share some ideas I've gathered for the space. I need shelving as I have books, frames, canvases...all that need a home. This bookcase is nice and I really like the brush holder. source I like the shallow shelves in this picture. They'd be great for all the cans and bottles of paint. The inspiration/bulletin board area is also really great. I do have an idea for an area to hang photos I'm working off of. source This one is one I really like - notice the canvas storage above the bookshelves and worktable. I want to replicate this is some form or fashion. source These shelves are only one can deep -I'd love something like this so I could see at a glance what paints I had. Loads of them too...I don't think you can have too many shelves. 😊 source Right now my oil paint tubes are in a toolbox. I'd love to have something like this that I could clip them on. Sure would make finding a certain color easy instead of digging through my box. source - #15 Another paint tube system also fabulous: source Love the idea of clip boards to clip inspiration photos up. You can usually find clipboards at the thrift store for next to nothing. source Another setup for canvas storage: source source This is an idea I could easily do - it's an old tv cart with pipe dividers. hmmm, guess I'll have to look for one if Bruce doesn't have time to build me one like in the previous photos. This one I like for the tin ceiling and large worktable in the center. Not sure if I'll have a table in the center though. However, I do plan on one against the wall like the back wall in the photo. source These are all great ideas and will help me figure out how to set the studio up. I am looking forward to planning the space out. SaveSaveSaveSave

LCS elementary art storage cabinet, built and photographed by me. It's constructed of 11/16" birch and 3/16" luan (mahogany) plywood. Joints are all dado/rabbet + glue. The only nails used were to hold the back panel on. The cabinet is 70" tall, 52" wide, and 16" deep. It's finished with two coats of spar varnish. I figure I've got about 70 hours of labor into it. There are slots inside each column to allow insertion of removable shelves every 1.5" for storage of flat (paper) art work up to 24" wide. These shelves are 3/16" thick. There are also pin holes every 3" to allow relocating heavy duty (11/16" thick) shelves. The slots and pin holes run up both sides to allow maximum flexibility, but the cabinet is currently configured with thin shelves on the left and HD shelves on the right. The middle shelf on each side is fixed in order to keep the uprights from flexing side to side.
And the view to the other side of the space:
What is a hobby? Webster says: "An activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure." I did a quick Google search and came up with ideas for categories for hobbies, some are considered outside and others inside activities - but, is not limited to either. 1. Arts & Crafts, Creative Arts 2. Cooking, Baking, Preserving & Canning 3. Collecting, Antiques 4. Games, Puzzles, "Toys" 5. Writing 6. Reading 7. Music 8. Exercise, Fitness, Dance 9. Meditation, Yoga 10. Gardening 11. Enrichment, Volunteering, Club Activities 12. Outdoor Adventures, Hiking, Biking, Birding 13. Sports 14. Travel 15. Photography These are just a few of the ones I came up with. When I started the The Hobby Farm page, I was thinking it be more for the arts and craft kind of hobby. I do share mine on there, along with the classes I teach. The premis for the page was "learn a new hobby at the farm." However, I've been thinking about hobbies overall. With more of us "at home" this year, what is something you've been spending your time on? Sharon from My New Uneventful Life is an amazing photographer, scrapbooker, artist and blogger. She lives in Michigan, but follows along. I'd love to connect with more hobbyists! What are your hobbies? Please click on the The Hobby Farm link above (in blue) and LIKE, FOLLOW the page and we can share about the things we are interesed in. I have it a private page, as I don't want some spammy, nasty, things to pop up on there....I can only imagine those hobbies...ahahaha...no wait, I don't want to. Lately, as I am cleaning out my old business inventory, my hobby seems to be shuffling, sorting, stacking, packing, selling...I would love for my space to look like this instead of this oops...speaking of weird hobbies....mine is not to collect naked manequins...I didn't even know they were in this picture! Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for all of the love and support on my last Instagram post about my dad. I have read and re-read the comments many times, and they have truly brought me comfort over the past days. Although I’m not sure that the pain of losing him will ever pass, I try to keep it ever-present in my mind that although he is gone physically, his love is with us forever. I have made it a personal goal to continue his legacy of loyalty, love, and family. A while back, I saw the new Ikea Skadis pegboard while surfing around YouTube. I ran out to buy it but never had time to hang it. Although my crafty mojo has taken a backseat to all that’s transgressed recently, motherhood has not. I spent my Mother’s Day weekend standing in the pouring rain at a weekend soccer tournament away from home. I told my husband that all I wanted for Mother’s Day was for him to hang my pegboard while I was away. And he delivered! Here is the before... a lone cork board: And the after: I LOVE THIS PEGBOARD. It makes me happy to look at it. My board consists of four individual pegboard pieces. If you look closely, you will notice that the holes are not circles, but longer oval shapes. This means that traditional pegboard accessories will not work, but Ikea offers a ton of different and affordable options. I ended up using Ikea hooks, shelves, paper holders (holding my stamping platforms and Fiskars trimmer), and clips. The decorative pieces (i.e., the clock, initial, deer head, flower pots, etc.) were also hung or displayed with the Ikea accessories. Because all of the Ikea accessories are easy to hang and easy to remove, rearranging is a breeze. After doing a lot of fussing and fiddling with the pegboard and making another trip back to Ikea, I have some advice for anyone setting up a pegboard like this: 1. Decide which tools and supplies you want to display on your pegboard, and figure out how you want to organize them. This will give you a general idea of how many shelves, hooks, cups, etc. you will need to buy. 2. Then buy extra. If you’re anything like me, you will end up using more accessories than you think. And if you ever decide to change things up, it is great to have extra pieces on hand. Another tip: buy LOTS of hooks. You can hang almost anything with holes with the hooks. 3. Function over form. Figure out where you want to display your essential supplies and hang them where they are easily accessible and easily removed. Then fill the rest of the board in with decorative pieces if you wish. When I started, I started putting things up willy nilly and ended up taking everything down. Putting the essentials up first made it easy to back-fill with decorative pieces later. I’d love to see your craft rooms as well! Feel free to tag me on Instagram if you post pictures of your crafty space!
