Hello All and Happy Monday! Well, what a fun weekend it was…did you catch the Tim Holtz Youtube LIVE that Tim and Mario hosted this past Saturday? Oh, what a fun day it was, I was glued to th…
time to let your haunting imagination scream in delight as the smell of candy corn fills the air! halloween is here…
I'm really not sure what exactly inspired this Tim Holtz Idea-ology piece, but I don't think it was just one thing. I'm sure it was the combination of the fabulous florals in the Field Notes ephemera and snippets packs, the tiny lights paired with the Vellum Scenes, and the glorious chippiness of the Distress Crackle Texture Paste with the Vignette Shrine and Frame. It just all came together and said it needed to be a potting shed. To start, I cut some paper from the Wallflower 12x12 Paperstash. You need enough paper for the inside and outside of the sides of the shrine and for the inside and outside back of the shrine as well as for the Tiny Lights Cover. I adhered the paper to the Shrine first with Distress Collage Medium. Then I "stained" the Vignette Frame and any other bits of raw wood with watered down Ground Espresso Distress Paint. I did this because I didn't want Distress Stain or Ink to color the Distress Crackle Texture Paste. Once the "stain" was dry, I used a Ranger Pallet Knife and spread some of the Distress Opaque Crackle Texture Paste onto the top edges of the sides, the base and the frame. Let it dry and it crackles. Glorious crackles!! Then I determined where the frame was going to go and I punched a hole through the back of the shrine to feed the Tiny Lights through. I wrapped the lights around a wooden coffee stir stick that I attached to the top inside of the Vignette Frame. Then I attached the battery pack to the back of the shrine like this. To attach the window frame to the back of the shrine, I adhered the Vellum Scene to the back of the frame, then I built up the sides by adding some Chipboard to all four sides. Because I wanted the Vellum Scene to light up, I wound the Tiny Lights around a wooden coffee stir stick and adhered it to the inside edge of the chipboard on the top side of the frame. If you look closely you can see that after I had adhered some chipboard to the sides of the Vignette frame, I put some Crackle texture past so it would blend right in with the frame. The space the chipboard gives to the frame by moving it away from the back wall of the shrine is what allows you to adhere to lights on the coffee stirrer to the inside top of the frame. Once you get the frame popped away from the back, lights adhered securely inside the frame, then attach the frame to the back of the shrine with Distress Collage Medium and let it dry. While that is drying you can age and distress the Idea-ology Apothecary Jars, Thimbles, and Silverware. I already posted a tutorial on doing this, and you can see it here. Once the thimble "terra cotta pots" are made, adhere three of them to the top of the window frame. Also, mount the Wholesale Florist sign from the Field Notes Ephemera pack to a piece of chipboard and then attach it to the back of the shrine above the window. I used this to cover the tiny crack where the window was attached to the back and a bit of the light was shining through. The chipboard sign did a great job of sealing that up. I put the flower poster from the Field Notes Snippets to the back of the shrine under the window as if it had fallen off the wall and slid down settling against the bottom of the shrine. Once I adhered the jars and pots in place, I filled in around them with a little bit of moss. Once I adhered the jars and pots in place, I filled in around them with a little bit of moss. I adhered the garden tools into one pot, and adhered the other pot sideways. Then in the sideways pot I put a bunch of grit paste. Before it dried, I sprinkled some Distress Embossing Powder on it and I added some grit paste and Distress Embossing Powder in the pot with the tools as well. Fair warning, the Distress Embossing Powder is retired. Long retired. But I have a huge stash of it and love using it to represent dirt whenever I can. If you don't have any, you can use some real sand or ink and stain the grit paste to represent soil. Oh my, the details on the jars, pots and things are really so worth the work! From this angle you can see how crackled and chippy the Distress Crackle Texture Paste really is. It might chip off of its own or you can chip off some of it yourself. this just adds to the chippy goodness! The finishes and the little details in this piece really make a difference and although they take time, they are all well worth it! Just have fun experimenting and adding colors here and there until you get the look you want. That's what I do. I just play and try things and delight in the various finishes and details you get as you practice. I am always grateful that you chose to come to my blog and spent time reading this post. Hello friends! Happy Thursday…I hope that this post finds you well. I am back again with another look at a project that I created using the new idea-ology 2022 collection. I was so happy to m…
The Tim Holtz Idea-ology line offers crafting items that are great for use in steampunk crafts such as paper craft embellishments, tools, and papers.
Crafter & Tim Holtz Addict
Vintage styled bookboard frames used for a collage. Includes 4 frames (2 each of 2 designs). Each frame is approximately 5 x 8 inches.
The 2022 Halloween Idea-ology release from Tim Holtz is fabulous! So many great products that can be used year round so be sure to stock up! As I was going through the products when I got them, there were a few pieces that inspired this make: the ravens, the baseboard chamber door and the piece of Poe ephemera. I started trying to think of what things I could use to make a project that could showcase some of Edgar Allan Poe's stories and poems. This was the outcome. I hope you enjoy it! Here is the video tutorial for this project. Here are the links to my previous tutorials for making the trays and boxes into books that I referenced in the video tutorial: A Christmas Carol Live Your Story Below are just the closeups of the project. Annabel Lee - a poem by Edgar Allan Poe The Raven - A poem by Edgar Allan Poe I decided to leave the metal on the card file since I was doing books. It seemed appropriate. This book vignette represents the short story The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe. I used a bunch of Distress Crypt Grit Paste on this vignettte! The fork sconce made from Adornments Silverware. The Cask of Amontillado made from an Idea-ology Barrel and Halloween Remnant Rubs. This story of revenge takes place in the Montressor family catacombs and there are bones everywhere. The short story The Gold Bug is about looking for pirate treasure. It begins when a man finds a gold bug with a skull on its shell. Then he and some friends use a skull and the bug to find the pirate treasure. This is the view from the other end of the piece. The Oval Portrait is an very, very short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It is about a traveler who takes refuge in an abandoned house and discovers a very lifelike oval portrait and a diary that tells its story. Poe's chamber or studio is represented in this area. You see candles and books and things I imagined he used as inspiration for his stories. On the top shelf are a bunch of books I thought Poe might use for reference, but tucked between them is a letter. It represents one of the first detective mystery stories called The Purloined Letter. I had been wanting to use this man with his cat paperdoll, and figured this was as good a time as any. I framed him holding his cat, because Poe has a short story called The Black Cat. I know this cat isn't black but again, I am using a man who loves his cat as inspiration for Poe's story. The eye on this shelf really stands out. Both the eye and the heart under the floor boards are from the short story The Tell Tale Heart. I just added a raven and skull on the bottom level thinking they might be inspiration for his poem The Raven and for the Gold Bug Pirate story. The papers and pen nib are representative of him writing a story. You did it! You made it all the way to the end! I truly hope you like this project as much as I do. I really had such a fun time working on it and trying to find things to include that could represent different poems and short stories. Thanks also for bearing with my literary geekiness as well. LOL! I tried to control myself and to be honest, I could have been a lot worse. :-D Regardless, I appreciate you sticking with me to the end. I wish you a very crafty day! Idea-ology… A concept or thought developed by the mind of what is desirable or ought to be. In our world, having products…
hello! I thought that today I'd share 3 of the projects that I made for tim's idea-ology booth and show a few of my MOST FAV things from his new release... I LOVE the new correspondence papers which were the inspiration for this piece... you'll see them on the large art parts heart & also the base it's sitting on... I LOVE the heart hanging from my new chain stamp... I also LOVE the new ephemera package (emporium) that coordinates perfectly with the papers... under that collage is a piece of the new self adhesive corrugate... the cute girl is from the new Photo Booth photo strips... that is one lovely box full of goodies... I'm addicted... as you'll see... I used them on all 3 of today's projects... the new heirloom rose she's wearing was altered with one drop of alcohol ink... the alpha parts framed (everyday & adventure) were lightly covered with gold embossing paste to change them from black to a textured vintage gold... my art parts film strip frame is the base for this piece... I'll be sharing the faux gilded technique that I used to alter it soon... make sure you have the gold embossing paste! or...if you're impatient like me... you'll find the how-to scoop on the new MAKE ART challenge blog... there's still 7 days to enter! I hope you can join us... psst...there will be PRIZES! here's a side shot to show the dimension... that's the new rose stamp (SiSi) and the bow... they are both stamped on newsprint, that I added to my clearly for art (CFA), with glue n seal... the CFA allows for dimensional layered stamped images that are very strong & sturdy... so fun... this photo shows that little red heart charm, embossed with red geranium and a little remnant rub inside... next up... this project started on a vintage tray that we found at an antique store... I'd say it's about 6 x 8 inches... it starts with a small black book, layered with a vintage doily and then the fun stuff was collaged on top... once again...I chose a Photo Booth girl... when I like something... I REALLY like something & can't quit using it... LOVE LOVE LOVE the new trophy cups... I toned down the shiny silver with a tiny bit of silver & gold embossing pastes... I just finger painted a very thin layer on & let it dry... I used lots of stuff from the new emporium ephemera pack... the little sprigs are the AWESOME deco sheets applied to CFA, then die cut... you'll see tea rose embossing powder on the letterpress 3 & on the art parts scallop trim... there's a new flash card (elementary) stuck into the pages of the book... a pair of vintage glasses were the finishing touch... this was a blast to create! here's another fun piece... this uses the new foundry frames... I WILL be ordering 100 just for me... I will never run out of them... they are AWESOME! and inside the frame? yep..another photobooth person... she's tinted with archival inks... the base paper is the new correspondence, added to a 6 x 6 canvas with... you got it... glue n seal... the paper was stenciled with tree branch archival & the polka dots stencil... you'll see the new ruffles stamp along the bottom... I hope the next photo shows how cool the deco sheets are... it's the perfect vintage shimmer that is NOT glitter, so it won't be popping off... no mess...I like that! I like that the deco sheets work with punches... that's how I added the bling to the custom fasteners that make the flower centers... I didn't take a photo of the finished piece after I put it into an 8 inch square black shadowbox frame... I forgot... shhh... what happens on the blog, stays on the blog... I stole this from Paula's blog... hmmm.. I guess the watermark is a clue... LOVE the new filigree stamps... and the new sentiment was a good fit... ahhh...that was fun... you should be able to click the photos to enlarge them... now I'm off to work on a tutorial for a brand new F U N & E A S Y technique... stay tuned... I hope these pieces inspire YOU to... make art! wendy ps... FYI... I just found a SALE PAGE... it has stamps, SiSi's, and one of my most favorite tiny text stamps... the sale ends tonight... HURRY!
Hi Everyone, Hope you had a wonderful weekend (and holiday for those of us in the US). I'm back today sharing a samples from each of the designers that contributed to the idea-ology booth (I will talk about our Sizzix and Stamper Anonymous sample designers in another post). I picked one sample from each designer just to show you a broad view of what we had in the idea-ology booth. Prepare to be inspired! Jan Hobbins - I love the way Jan can layer product on a 12 x 12 layout. She easily mixes idea-ology paper, ephemera and trinkets, uses a Stamper Anonymous Layering Stencil for texture and can still fit in die cuts from Tim's Sizzix line. What I like about Jan's work is that she always surprises me with what she comes up with...it's never the same and never ordinary! Karen Knight- Karen comes to us by way of Australia! We loved Karen's tag collages so much that we asked her to add them to a Collection Folio. You can see that she cut the spine so that it fits along the top of the folio and the pages flip up. You know you want to see more of this one, right? Lets hope she shares the rest on her blog. Cheiron Brandon - Cheiron created this great 6 x 8" Configurations box for the Correspondence side of the booth, using the new Trophy Cup, Foundry Frame (can't wait for those to come in) and vintage flair buttons. Cheiron did a great job pulling everything together to create a military spin using a basic Configurations box. Vicki Boutin - Dear sweet Vicki...we have worked together many times over the years and she never ceases to amaze me...seriously, what comes out of that brain of hers! Using an idea-ology Elastic to hold the Trophy Cup in place on the front of the Flip Frame mini book is genius. I think she is going to be teaching this as a class this year so be on the lookout for that! Cathie Parreco - Cathie is someone I have followed for a a while now. Her work with tags is amazing and I always learned something from techniques she uses. I asked Cathie to go outside her comfort zone (just a bit) and create in 3-D for the booth. She did not disappoint. This piece is quite amazing...I have never seen anyone who can cut paper so very delicately. We had many a discussion in the booth starting with, "how do you think she did it?". Again, I hope Cathie will show some of her up close work on her blog, just so you can get the full beauty of the many layers of this piece. Yvonne Blair - Yvonne created this Assemblage Clock with a great coppery patina finish. She used a picture of her grandfather from his first year in the Coast Guard as her inspiration. What a great way to showcase such a special memory. The new Typed Tokens are a new favorite - simple typed words on a lightweight coin (really, the most perfect size). I found myself using them over and over again in recent projects. Richele Christensen - My dear friend Richele made so many samples across our 4 booths that it was hard to even pick which one to show here. I chose this 5 x 5" Configurations box because the use of vintage mixed with idea-ology just makes me happy. The Pulley Wheels are a favorite (seriously, more things should have wheels!) as well as the Mini Lantern (always a lantern). Thank you Richele for saying yes to every single thing we asked of you! Tammy Tutterow - Tammy created some great pieces for the idea-ology booth. Love when Tammy gets one of her crazy ideas - this time it involved hinging two burlap panels together to create a layered mixed media piece. From the tiny flowers to the quilted heart, it's classic Tammy. And I love that. Aida Haron - Many of you may be familiar with Aida's work, which is layered and super creative. We asked Aida to work with a Large Collection Folio which she did, creating this fun journal for a 2015 adventure. Don't you love the man (from one of the Ephemera Packs) peeking out from the Sizzix die cut window? Love the way Aida can layer everything and make it come together seamlessly. We'll see more of Aida's work when I blog about the Sizzix booth on Friday. Cathe Holden - We asked Cathe to create a special vintage piece just for us. Cathe married old and new, bringing together a vintage frame and book, with pieces from the new idea-ology release. We love it. Cathe has even posted on her blog, "Just Something I Made" how she created this piece, right down to how she put together faux pocket-frame daguerreotype, using of all things... foam core! Never would have guessed it! Just click on her blog name and the link will take you right on over to check it out! Andrea Ockey Parr - Andrea created this medium Collection Folio using many of our classic papers. From there she switched it up by adding her signature color scheme. You may notice that the spine of the folio is only attached by a Swivel Clasp at the top. Super fun, totally different and unique...just what we were looking for from Andrea! If you are up for more of Andrea's bright colored art, pop by her blog to see what she's done with Tim's Assembly Snowman die (let's just say, it's not a snowman anymore). Wanda Guess - Wanda created some fun cards using classic idea-ology product, mixed with a bit of new, like "Photobooth". These super fun strips come in a pack of 30. There are 3 photos on each strip, so you get 90 distinct photos per package (and I should mention that they are only $3.99 per pack). I'm glad Wanda showcased one such photo here, so you can see how easy it is to add to a card along with some ephemera and Wallflower Velum. Mona Pendleton - Mona created a couple projects for us, one of which was this stunning large Collection Folio. She based the folio around a trip to Venice, adding in lots of the new Correspondence papers and Pocket Cards. I have added two photos here just so you could see some of the layers. Super fun and a great way to document a trip. This is one of those projects you just want to turn the pages!! Wendy Vecchi - I have to give a shout out to our friend Wendy. She created a few pieces for the booth, just because she wanted to. This was my favorite, using the new Deco Sheets mounted on Clearly for Art, so the flowers could be molded and appear lifelike. One of my favorite samples using Deco Sheets. Stunning in it's simplicity. Please click on the picture so you can see it larger! And lastly, I'll share my favorite piece. The new Clip Carousel was the foundation - two tiers, a metal base and a split ring at the top. Found Relatives were my inspiration and then I just added a bunch of junk. Pretty darn fun to make, when anything and everything is on the table. I will write a separate blog post about this piece and show you some close ups, but for today, it's here as my choice for my favorite sample I made. Well, that's it for today. Like I said at the top of today's post...total inspiration in the idea-ology booth. We don't take our jobs lightly...when we say we want to inspire shop owners with our products, our booth and our samples...we mean it. It takes work and dedication from many people, starting right at the top with Tim. Absolutely the most inspiring person I have ever worked with. I'm glad to be on board...because this train shows no sign of stopping. #lovemyjob Don't forget, I will be back at the end of the week with the designers that did work for us using Sizzix and Stampers Anonymous product. You won't want to miss that! now carry on, paula

When I saw the new challenge over on the 7Dots Studio Blog I knew I just had to play along. The theme is Fly away. You can find the blog challenge here. This is what the theme means to me... I have used the reverse side of Sweet Dreams from the Dreamer Collection . ( yes I have been hoarding it.. giggle) and some sticker elements from the Domestic Goddess collection from 7Dots Studio. I have also added in a few pieces of Tim Holtz Idea-ology - I can tell the monocles are going to be a favourite!. I've also used a little sprinkle of UmWow Studio Circle Confetti - this chipboard is to die for! So there you have it.. my version of fly away.. Thank you for stopping by, I hope to see you again soon.. Happy creating Karen xx

I like little things. Maybe it's that "gatherer" mentality I have (although some might call it hoarding). And maybe that's really what drew me to the industry in the first place (all those little bits and bobs I could gather up and no one would ask why). So today's post is all about little things. Starting with these tins. I have had these little tins for a while but have never found a use for them till now. I painted the inside of the lid with Weathered Wood Distress paint to give a bit of an aged look. I also used Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to color a small piece of cheesecloth and added it to the lid with Multi Medium. I chose two metal embellishments to alter. Adornments - Nature: I painted the rose adornment with Weathered Wood Distress Paint. Once dry, I added gold Alcohol ink over the top, leaving just enough of the blue coming through. The Keyhole - I painted the metal keyhole with same Weathered Wood Distress Paint. I let it dry for about 15-20 minutes until the paint was tacky, then burnished it with a soft cloth until I wore away the paint in the center. I finished it off with a bit of Mushroom Alcohol Ink to darken it up. I also used Mini Fasteners to make it look like the Keyhole was screwed to the front of the tin. In reality, the Mini Fasteners were placed into the holes and bent back, then the Keyhole was attached to the lid with Glossy Accents. The numbers came from the Special Delivery Remnant Rub sheet (this new rub sheet has a huge amount of numbers, perfect for all my little projects). The black word strip is from Small Talk, which is a booklet full of short sayings (3 sheets of black and 3 sheets of white). I decided to add the smallest Clock Key at the top. This time I did pierce the tin with an awl to permanently add the Clock Key in place. And what is inside? The little Salvaged Doll of course! So cute! I used Mushroom Alcohol ink over her body and rubbed it around with a piece of felt (wear a rubber glove if you are worried about the alcohol ink getting on your skin). I added a bit of vintage looped tatting (something I collect) to make a collar for her dress. It looks a bit blue green because I pounced a bit of Pool Alcohol ink into the tatting to give it some color. I adhered the collar to her dress with Multi Medium because it dries clear and it isn't shiny. The tiny pearl in the center of the collar is from an old necklace. The Typed Token was painted with gold Alcohol Ink and then Weathered Wood Distress Paint was added to the edges. The No.84 is from the Remnant Rub sheet. I tried a few different trinkets in the background of the tin. Like these tiny buttons. However, I ended up going with a Alpha Chip and a Heirloom Rose at her feet. It just seemed to fill the space a little better. Love my little box. So sweet with the pink cotton fabric in the background. I guess my take away from today is, don't over look small things that might just make a big impact. now carry on, paula InLinkz.com
