Utopia | Create a Utopia | Utopia Project | Dystopian Project The concept of a utopia is one with applications in both the English and history classrooms. Many people have tried, and failed, to create utopias at various stages in human history. In many works of literature, including many of the current popular dystopian novels, an attempted utopia provides the backstory. By developing a utopia of their own, students will gain a better appreciation for the challenge and the risk behind such an endeavor. The project has both individual and group components and is designed in three parts: Part 1 has students work collaboratively to design some of the more basic and fundamental elements of their utopia. Part 2 asks students to individually reflect on the notion of a utopia and to consider some quotes and lyrics relating to the notion. Part 3 has students work as a group to create a presentation detailing more specific aspects and attributes of their created utopia. ***************************************************************************** Don't miss these other products designed for teaching English and history in the middle school classroom! Creating utopia may be possible for the first time in history because people are thinking differently about themselves and their world. Equally as important, these new ideas about who we are and what we are capable of are spreading, thanks to the internet, in ways that weren't even possible just 10 years ago! The socioeconomic realities of a culture founded on competition and profit, versus one founded on collaboration, cooperation, and abundance for all, are becoming clearer and people with the knowledge and desire to create something different, not just for themselves but for The Highest Good of All, are accessing each other through the internet and organizing for change. This is leading to social revolutions, economic revolutions, massive shifts in consciousness, and the formation of groups ready to create a new and better approach to living in cohesion with each other, nature, the planet, and within themselves.

For speculative architect Olalekan Jeyifous, imagined dystopian worlds help explore the challenges of our times.
I've been studying architects quite a bit lately. I'm especially interested in their relationship with Utopia. It's as if each rendering is an insight into the architect's notion of perfection. People are depicted using a design... sitting on a bench having a sandwich, walking up stairs, etc. These
