Make a stitched mixed media folio journal that is perfect to make as a gift for someone you care about - or just for yourself!
Well, here we are again - another week has seemingly flown by and we find ourselves here in mid-January already. It was a busy week, and I have this strange sensation of time being a figment of my imagination. Things that I know I did this week seem like they happened weeks ago! Have you felt it, or is winter making me a little nuts despite the nice weather we've been having? Nice weather - until now, that is. Today's talk of the town is the weather, but we'll get to that later. JOURNAL PAGES FROM THIS WEEK Here are three journal spreads from this week, all in three different styles inspired by subject matter and imagery. Do you recognize two of the images that I used from the calendar pages I posted last week? Collage, gesso, Pitt pen, acrylic paint Gesso, collage, acrylic paint, Sharpie fine point marker. Acrylic paint, water soluble pastel FABRIC JOURNALS My class continues to work on fabric journals throughout January. We are all having a great time with these! I have assembled the cover for my first journal, and I'm really pleased with the way it. I can't stop looking at all the bright, patchwork of colors, and I can't stop running my fingers over the embellishments! There are sequins, buttons, fibers, beads, lace, and charms sewn to the cover. That's Christmas garland sewn along the edge of the front cover. I can't wait to show you the finished product! Here's what it looks like opened with both the inside front and back covers. Here's the outside back cover. I'll be adding a couple things to it, but not much. I have the signature pages prepared to sew inside of my journal, but I've decided to complete the journal pages before attaching to the book. PHOTO JOURNAL - SNOW! As I said, today's big story is the snow. Snow is usually no big deal here - after all, I live in the Northeast Ohio snowbelt! What makes this a big deal is that we've gotten use to 40 degree weather, and we got absolutely hammered with snow overnight. Keith measured 18" this morning around 8am. I'm just a little annoyed as I was supposed to be judging an art show this morning. Que Sera, I guess. It finally stopped snowing about 2 hours ago, and now that I've resigned myself to the fact that I am indeed snowbound, it's really beautiful. Keith finally got a path cleared to the bottom of the deck stairs. It's been a very long time since we've seen this much snow! My little red zoom, zoom (Mazda) looks like a mini van sitting in the driveway! Standing at the end of my driveway looking west at snow-laden pines. Gorgeous! MY ARTIST SON I'm really excited to share my son's video with you. It's really artsy, and this proud mom has watched it....well, let's just say a lot! I can't wait to see Mike's next artistic endeavor. I think he's found his creative niche, don't you? I suggest watching on YouTube and in HD if you can. The video is set to a musical score, so you'll want to turn my blog radio off. Please comment and "Like" (if you do!) to encourage my budding artist! Well, I guess that's about it for this Weekend Journal edition. I hope you're snuggled in and warm in your neck of the woods, and I hope your creative genes are bursting with inspiration. Until next time, much love and many blessings to you! CELEBRATE * LOVE* CREATE

I know where the time has gone this past month. I went up to Berry in NSW and taught a wonderful group of ladies my fabric journal workshop and the circles on canvases. I came home and taught two painted paper collage workshops from home, and then went off to Ballarat for a week to teach more lovely students how to dye fabrics, threads and buttons and then turn these into a journal that was all hand stitched. The following week I taught for four days at the Australian Quilting Convention in Melbourne with another fabulous group of students. I'm now home working on some textile work for an exhibition in May. I feel so lucky to be doing something I really love. some of the lovely circles made by the Berry students these were the collages from one of the workshops at home some of the beautiful dyed fabrics and journals created by the Ballarat students the circles created by the students at AQC two of the bags made at AQC, I had 20 students all together and missed getting photos of their bags and fabric journals. It's always a rush at the end. Thanks for dropping by I really will try to post more often. I seem to post more regularly on my Facebook Page, it's much quicker than writing a blog post, but I'll try to catch up.

I was incredibly privileged this weekend to enjoy a workshop with Frances Pickering whose work is exquisite. Words fail me in trying to express just how much I enjoyed the two days. She's an amazingly generous, encouraging and inspirational tutor. This bookmaking workshop was right up my street as I just love making books, all sorts of books and book covers. The cover was made from pelmet vilene coloured with disperse dyes the flowers were then added using coloured pencils. When satisfied with my result it was given a coat of acrylic wax to seal it. Then detail and decoration was added using handstitching. Pages were coloured with that wonderful "Brusho" stuff and stitched into place. So far I've only started to fill one page but my aim is to practice drawing and painting various flowers within the pages in the hope it will all become much easier...

It's a bit late, but I wanted to share the beautiful pages from the book I received from Karla Nathan's Nature's Blessings Journal Swap a few months ago. There are a quite a few pages so I'll show them in two posts. Karla made the covers which all include a copy of her original angel drawing. She used vintage wallpaper, millinery flowers and lace to make each cover special and unique. Each participant made six "signatures" with each consisting of four pages. Karla compiled them into sets of six that looked lovely together, then bound them into the cover with three blank signatures so that we can add to our books. I won't comment on each set of pages individually, but they are all beautiful as you'll see. I'll list the artist prior to each set. My first set of amazing pages is from Lorraine at Over the Rainbeau. I'm not sure who made the second lovely set of pages, as it just lists the blog name and I've not been able to access the blog. The blog is somewouldevensayitglows.blogspot.com. If the artist sees this or if anyone reading is familiar with this blog, I'd love to know. I'll try to check with Karla, too. The next wonderful pages are by Cheryl Stoneham, who I met at Silver Bella in 2010. I didn't find a blog for her. So much talent and loveliness! I'll be sharing the pages from the other three artists in my next post, so be sure to check back. If you missed the pages I made, you can see them here.
