Miranda surprised me with a request for one more gift for one of her favorite teachers. She asked if I could make a doll in the likeness of Socrates. Although I couldn't find a pattern for one, I think I did a pretty good job of modifying a standard amigurumi figure to make look like the famous Greek philosopher. I had to completely wing it on the clothes, but I'm really pleased with how he turned out. Now I just have to resist the urge to create *all* of the famous philosophers! Nietzsche, Bietzsche!
If you can knit and purl in the round, then you're all set to create this cozy Valentine's day themed winter headband.
My grandmother showed me the basics when I was about five and I’ve been “learning by doing” since then. I like knitting sweaters best, and am especially fond of wool. I try designing at times, but often I simply steal ideas (“get inspired” sounds nicer!) and make some changes. Nowadays, after dozens of sweaters, copying what somebody else has already done is not quite enough - I want a surprise element too. This doesn’t mean my changes (sometimes simply a diffent choice of colour) are improvements, but I’m happy I’m not afraid of experimenting anymore.
JULIO THE AXOLOTL is my tribute to this magical Mexican creature and I took his name from the lovely short story “Axolotl” written by Julio Cortazar. Axolotl comes from Náhuatl (Aztec language) and they are known as “water monster”. They have an average life of 15 years ( although they can live up to 25 years). They are solitary and elusive, and capable of limb regeneration! If crocheted with the suggested hook and yarn, Julio´s size is 40cm. long (16 inches) The pattern is suitable for both beginners and more experienced crafters. Required skills for this pattern: magic loop, crocheting in spiral, color-changing, increase, decrease, and the basic crochet stitches, single crochet, and double crochet. If you have any questions about the pattern, feel free to contact, me, I will be happy to help you! The pattern is available in English (US) and Spanish.
