Whew, I've been busy! Not only with work, but with some fun stuff too! It seems every bit of "off-time" I get I pick up a little Blackwork and start stitching. I'm thinking for the month of February, I will pull something else out of the "UFO" basket. As much as I love doing Blackwork, I have to be honest and say it's hard on my eyes. My left eye has been twitching up a storm this month, and I think creating tiny stitches under bright lights is the cause of this eye stress. I have a magnifier, but it's not the most comfortable to wear and I don't always have it handy. So, I'll take a break from Blackwork and go back to embroidery for awhile. But here are some photos of some of the bookmarks I have done this month. And here is the bookmark finished. I really like this one and it wasn't too difficult to do once I learned the pattern. That's all for now! Until another time have a happy stitchy day!
A blackwork celebration of being left home alone at Christmas (and also being mapless in Manhattan). Featuring designs that would remind you of such things, like: • A heated, monogrammed door knob. The cornerstone of any secure home. • Toothbrushes which may or may not be approved by the ADA • A van and running faucets (I'm British though, so 'taps') • An iron, cascading down a laundry chute (a classic Christmas occurrence) • A neighbourhood of houses • A fan and feathers (another classic Christmas thing) • A Recording Device, to represent those times in the 90s we couldn't just google hotel phone numbers to make reservations • Suspended paint cans (a classic Christmas decoration) • Two turtle doves, to symbolise making friends in the park, and also a lovely ribbon banner to represent New York City toy shops • Bonus tarantula (the most festive insect)! Please note that this piece includes some fractional stitches. There's a guide included in your download to help you get started if you've not worked with them before. The piece was designed to be completed using a standard backstitch. 🎄 A bit of thread info 🎄 When stitching this I used about 1.5 to 2 skeins of DMC 310 (Black). I also included some colour accents which amounted to less than 50cm of metallic thread for each. The colours you use do not have to be the same, but here is what I used for reference: • DMC E815 (Dark Red Ruby) • DMC E699 (Green Emerald) • DMC E677 (White Gold) 🎄 Included in your download 🎄 PDF Pattern for Screen PDF Pattern for Print PDFs of some helpful hints (includes a fractional stitch guide) 🎄 Size Info 🎄 97 x 109 stitches (w x h) Width-wise, this goes from the edge of the tarantula on the left to the edge of the farthest feather on the right. Height-wise, this is from the top of the ropes to the lowest paint can (there are 13 stitches charted of the paint can ropes from the top before they intersect with the top row of box outlines – these can be shortened or extended depending on how large you want your border/what frame you're using) 14ct Aida: 17.6cm x 19.8cm // 6.9” x 7.8” 16ct Aida: 15.4cm x 17.3cm // 6.1” x 6.8” 18ct Aida: 13.7cm x 15.4cm // 5.4” x 6.1” • This piece was designed in Adobe Illustrator and not a cross stitch software. For this reason I regretfully can’t inform the total number of stitches in the piece.
