I cross stitched these 5 little ornies with green, white, and dark blue embroidery floss onto red cross stitch fabric. They are variations on a star design and look like little quilt blocks. I then sewed some red print fabric onto the backs and stuffed each of them with polyfil. They measure about 2" - 2 1/2" square and they have a red or white ribbon for hanging on a tree or wherever you like. Or just place them in a bowl with some greenery for some Christmas color. You can also use them as stocking stuffers or hostess gifts.
The other day I came across this pin on Pinterest, which is an image uploaded by a user of a simple embroidered felt Christmas ornament made all the more lovely with the addition of quite a lot of …

Christmas Cat Tree by Brittercup Designs 2011 Just Cross Stitch Ornie Mag stitched with recommended threads Here's another favourite from this year's ornie mag, chosen for my lovely MIL Heather. It was my first attempt at making a triangle shaped ornament and I found some pretty black and gold braiding for the trim. I really liked this design so might just have to restitch it next year :) See you soon x

Вы слышали про пендибуль, но не знаете, как его шить и у вас нет схемы вышивки? Мы научим вас!
Happy , happy Saturday!!! It's another cold one here. I'll be bundling up and heading to the grandbabies ' basketball games here soon. Oh, those little ones are so cute to watch. Most of them can not throw high enough to get a goal, but boy, do they try. Well I thought I would take you on another segment of "Country Clutter Tour" . Lol .Today we will be touring the Hall of Snowmen. ( Oh, if you see any dust bunnies, please excuse them- I've been stitching when I should have been dusting. ) Every winter I put out all kinds of snowmen in my narrow foyer/hall. I have a little tree decked out in mittens. Sweeping Snowflakes is an older With Thy Needle and Threads piece that I finished on a Walmart whisk broom. I have 3 shutters that I found at the Goodwill propped against the wall. I change out the quilts seasonally on them. My favorite is my Coopie Snowman quilt that I embroidered a few years ago. The little Snowman in the top hat quilt was a thrift store find that I purchased last year. This is it's first year in the Hall of Snowmen. Chill Out is a Lizzie Kate stitch that I stitched for my oldest daughter. The Snowman pocket is my adaption of Kim Diehl's "Snowman Door Hanger" . It is a free design at All People Quilts ( Click the name to see that pattern). Much to Mr. Pinker's dislike - lol - my doors inside are adorned with wreath's or quilts. A little Mittens quilt hangs from a mitten holder. This is one of my quilts . A snowman quilt hangs on the other door. This guy makes me smile- Look at that nose !!! My white shelf is crammed full. On that shelf is an old drawer from my Granny's ; I turned it on its side and use it as a shelf. On the top of it is an embroidery I did a few years ago and finished it on a silver tray. The little snowman cross stitch was a freebie. Does anybody know who it is by? I can not remember. Tucked in the drawer is a free stitch called Winter by Balades et broderies par Camela . It is available on her blog in the Jan. 20, 2013 post. I did make some changes- I added a border , left off the stars and a few other little changes. Also I have With Thy Needle and Thread's Candy Cane Wishes though I have not found a piece that I want to mount it on. The last stitch on the shelf is my Winter Tree Sampler. I could not figure out how to finish it. I did not have a frame so I opted for a pillow finish. Better finished and on display than in the shameful "Need to Finish " pile. If you would like to stitch Winter Tree Sampler, I invite you to check out the links below. Click here for the Instruction page. Click here for the Colored Chart. Click here for the Black/White chart. Well that's a wrap of my country clutter hall segment. I hope to share my hutch this next week. Thank you so much for the sweet visit, my friends. Wishing you the most blessed and beautiful weekend. As always... Happy stitching and quilting, ya'll Melisa Remember our souls are like snowflakes - all different and all beautiful! Hugs and Stitches!!! Dedicated to my sweet sister, Amy. So many of your snowman pieces are on display , Amy . They warm my heart. Love you.
This is a Foxwood Crossing Cross Stitch Sled pattern to stitch the Saltbox Houses design shown. You can order the pattern ONLY or you can order the pattern PLUS enough perforated paper to make the 3 sleds shown in the picture. These fit the SMALL Foxwood Crossing Sleds. I have packages of the paper listed in another ad if you want to stitch more. You provide the floss. You can purchase the sleds separately in my store. I know the shipping may seem like a lot for a pattern and paper, but the post office counts it as a package and charges for a package.
Good morning, my friends! How is everyone doing during these final two weeks before Christmas? Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed with things or is it just me? I'm way behind in everything now except for my decorating and baking. Not one card has been written or a single gift sent. I feel like I lost a couple of weeks in there with Thanksgiving preparations and, of course, saying goodbye to my dear father. Things have been a bit up and down for me, emotionally, since Thanksgiving ended and everyone went home. I think keeping busy during that time was good for me and then when the quiet returned, I had more time to think (and cry), but I'm getting there--one step at a time, right? This week, I did manage to finish my decorating and put up my garland of ornaments for 2014. I have to say I'm very proud of this year's finishes. They're an eclectic bunch as I really love all sorts of patterns--I think that is one thing that keeps me interested in stitching ornaments. I never get bored--there is so much to choose from! For those of you who are new to my blog, I began posting my yearly ornament finishes on the Christmas garland going up my stairs way back in 2010, in my second year of blogging. If you would like to see previous years, just click on the year: 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. There has been a serious lack of sunshine around this part of Pennsylvania so the photos are not the best, but I hope you'll enjoy my 2014 collection... 2014 Monthly Ornament Finishes 2014 Ornaments: The First Six Months 2014 Ornaments: The Last Six Months January ~ March 2014 ornament finishes April ~ June 2014 ornament finishes July ~ September 2014 ornament finishes October ~ December 2014 ornament finishes Which is your favorite? I'll give you a closer look of each of them to help you choose... (You can click on the name of the ornament to get more information on the colors and fabrics I used, etc.): JANUARY Noel Snowman freebie FEBRUARY Prairie Schooler "Snow Day" MARCH Chessie & Me "Noel" APRIL "Nutmeg Santa" (from Just Cross Stitch 1997 Ornament issue) MAY Little House Needleworks "Seven Pines" freebie JUNE "Joy" freebie by Erynne Chard JULY "It Snowed Last Night" freebie by Erynne Chard AUGUST Prairie Schooler 2014 Santa SEPTEMBER Prairie Schooler "Ho Ho Santa" mini card OCTOBER Prairie Schooler "A Christmas Visit" NOVEMBER "A Winter's Night" from Nov/Dec. 2011 JCS magazine DECEMBER New York Dreamer "Frosty Night" So, which one do you like the best? I think my favorite is either December or April, but it's so hard to choose! Looking back on my year, I'd call this "the year of the handmade cording"... I really became addicted to making that stuff--it just adds such a great finishing touch to any ornament, don't you think? Will I stitch another ornament each month during 2015? Stay tuned... THANKSGIVING MEMORIES... So, how was your Thanksgiving? Ours was wonderful--it felt so good to gather with relatives on my husband's side and recall old stories and build new memories. Our sunroom, once again, provided the setting for our feast for the 17 of us and it was so nice to be able to sit our entire group at one table. If you look closely out the windows, you can see a sprinkling of snow; it provided such a lovely backdrop for our day. Thanksgiving table 2014 Here is another look (the tablecloth is white--although it appears to be pale blue for some reason!)... You can catch a glimpse of the flames in the fireplace in the background. It opens up to both the sunroom and the family room and makes holiday dinnertimes so cozy. I was so very touched to receive this beautiful centerpiece from a local group that my husband volunteers with. They sent it in memory of my dad... Of course, it had the place of honor on our Thanksgiving table. Centerpiece received in memory of dad My sons were put in charge of making appetizers this year and they did a great job! Here is a photo of the cheese spread (in the upper left) made by my youngest son (with just a bit of guidance from his old mom!) and the wonderful cheese plate put together by my oldest. He even made little cards describing the cheeses and where they came from. See the cheese resting under the glass dome at the far right? Well, there was a good reason for it--that was the "stinky cheese!" Ugh!! The smell was horrid... Some brave souls dared to taste it, but I was not one of them--not sure anyone actually liked it, but it was certainly a topic of conversation! My middle son and his girlfriend also made some tasty pumpkin hummus, but they hadn't arrived by the time I took this photo. It was such a help to delegate a part of the menu to the guys... Maybe next Thanksgiving, we'll switch and they can do the main meal and I'll do the appetizers? In my dreams! Thanksgiving appetizers prepared by my sons I fell in love with this darling turkey bowl when I saw it online and just had to buy one for myself. When they went on sale for 50% off at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop, I jumped at the chance. Do you know what he is made out of? A large gourd--grown and carved right here in Pennsylvania!! Such a great place to hold nuts or other goodies... Gobble, gobble!! And finally, here is a shot of the nine types of cookies I made for the annual Thanksgiving cookie tray. Needless to say, most of them were devoured by the end of the evening. Luckily, I have more in the freezer just waiting for Christmas!! Thanksgiving 2014 cookie tray GIVEAWAY WINNER: I was surprised that there weren't more entries to win this pretty chart, but that gave the few of you who entered a better chance... I simply drew a name and whose name came out of the bowl? Well, the lucky Dani! Dani, please email me with your mailing address and I'll get the chart off to you as soon as I can (although, given this busy, busy time of year, that may not be until January!). I do hope Dani will continue the kindness and offer the chart as a giveaway when she is done stitching it... GIFTS RECEIVED... I've received several packages from stitching friends from around the world lately, but I am saving them to open on a day when I need cheering up. As I mentioned previously, not a single gift has been sent from my end, so please forgive me and know that, although I had the best of intentions, this year they are definitely going to be late (at least the international ones!)... I'll really try to do better next year. I had planned on driving up to New York to visit my mom today, but, unfortunately, the snow and winter storm warning up her way curtailed those plans! I don't mind driving in the snow, it's the ice that scares me! Hopefully, I can go tomorrow or Friday. I really want to spend some time with her before Christmas. I know it's going to be a tough Christmas for all of us since dad died so recently... I want to thank each and every one of you for your supportive and oh-so-kind comments on my previous post. Many of you have already lost one or both parents so you know what I am going through. The holidays are such a hard time when a family has suffered a recent death. I'm getting through my days... it's just that some days I seem to be on the verge of tears most of the time. I found myself looking at the Christmas cards in Target the other day and seeing the ones for "Dad" had me fighting back tears. I know it will get better, though, and that dad would want his family to smile and go on about our lives. Anyway, I hope you all have a great week ahead. I should be back with one more post before Christmas (hmm... can you guess what might be featured in it?!). Bye for now...

Greetings from Pennsylvania on a lovely spring day! Yes, it is finally beginning to feel like spring after our record-breaking low temperatures last week. It was a frigid 19° on April 4th--can you imagine? According to our local newspaper we were colder here in the Pittsburgh area than in Juneau, Alaska or even Moscow! But, today we are supposed to reach a lovely 67°--it was so nice to wake up to the sounds of the Mourning Doves' coos today. I hope the rest of you who have endured an "endless winter" are enjoying sunnier days, too. Someone asked about my Christmas ornaments in my last post... Oh, yeah, that's right, I was supposed to be stitching one a month, wasn't I? Well, I'm just a bit behind--four months behind to be exact! The good news is that I made some progress and finally finished these little cuties for my January and February selections. First up, is another of the four snowmen featured in the chart "Let It Snow" by A Stitcher's Hands. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll remember I stitched his red, white, and blue themed buddy last year (you can see him by clicking here). I used the suggested DMC threads on a piece of 32 ct. mystery linen and embellished his hat with a little white pompom. The plaid fabric was a sample scrap from Joann Fabrics and the backing fabric is the gold-toned napkin shown in the background which I picked up at Kohl's. There are two snowmen left in this booklet--hope to get all of them stitched at some point. A Stitcher's Hands: "Let It Snow" snowman My February ornament is one of my favorites from the Little House ornament series called "Bringing Home the Tree." It is stitched on 40ct. raw natural Newcastle linen using the suggested threads. I just love that little black Scottie with his red collar and booties--so sweet. I really liked the border in this one, too. To finish it off, I simply ruched some sage green satin ribbon and added three white pearly pins at the top. What do you think? "Bringing Home the Tree" (Little House Needleworks) I'm currently working on my third and fourth ornaments of the year and hope to have them done by the end of the month so I'll be all caught up... GIVEAWAY WINNERS: OK, admit it, how many of you skipped down to this part of my blog to see who won my 1000+ follower giveaway? Oh, I know many of you did. And chances are all but three of you were a bit disappointed. This is the hard part for me--I so wish I could give each of you, especially those who regularly comment, a little something. But, I simply don't have the time or resources to send so many gifts all over the world... I was truly honored that so many of you (almost 200!!) entered my giveaway for my simple handmade pieces. I mean I wasn't giving away anything very valuable, so it meant all the more that so many of you wanted a little something made by me. A simple pillow didn't seem like much, so I've added a few more goodies to the winner's packages, but will keep everything secret until they arrive at their new homes. My husband did the honors in picking the names out of the hat (well, really, it was just a plain old paper bag :) and, without further ado, here they are: PRAIRIE SCHOOLER BUNNY WINNER: Julie (Julie's Stitchy Knitter Journal) PAINTED EGG WINNER: Passion Fruit Princess (Ana Paula) "S" IS FOR SPRING WINNER: Pam in IL (Pam) If the winners will please contact me with your mailing addresses, I'll get your packages out to you soon. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed stitching them! And for the rest of you, all I can offer is my sincere thanks. Thank you for your wonderful comments, your emails, your friendships and support. I truly loved reading about the simple things that made you smile in your entries and I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who enjoys "a simple life!" SPECIAL THANKS: Imagine my surprise when I received two wonderful packages in my mailbox this past week. First of all, my new blogging friend, Dawn, sent me one of her sweet scissor fobs as a Random Act of Kindness. I was so touched and honored that she would think of me and wanted to make me smile. I just love it, Dawn--the colors of lavender are perfect for me and the flowered white beads are so sweet. Doesn't the fob look lovely on my favorite pair of scissors? Thank you so very much, my friend--I'll think of you and your kindness each time I admire your beautiful creation! Scissor Fob RAK from Dawn Thank you, my friend--it is beautiful! And from one of my long-time blogging buddies, Valerie (Fog City Dweller blog), came a belated birthday present package (which, believe me, was well worth the 3 month wait!!). I honestly gasped, "Oh, it's beautiful," when I removed this beauty from the package. Just look at this stunning Drawn Thread ornament that Valerie made for me--perfectly stitched and finished! And you know what, I had picked this exact chart to stitch for my April Christmas ornament--luckily I hadn't begun yet! This is from "The Holly and the Ivy Sampler" chart and is one of my favorites. How did you know Valerie? "The Holly and the Ivy" birthday gift from Valerie I adore it, my friend--thank you so, so much! As if the ornament wasn't more than enough, Valerie included all of these goodies, as well... There was a cute LHN chart, a blue skein of silk, a blue notepad, and a cute key chain from Valerie's beloved San Francisco. I told her I honestly plan on visiting her fair city one day--especially if she agrees to be my tour guide. Thank you, thank you, my sweet friend--I am so happy we've "met" through our blogs... So many birthday goodies from Valerie! SUGGESTIONS NEEDED: Is there anything more heart-warming than welcoming a new baby to the world? Well, how about welcoming three new babies to the world? My best friend's daughter recently gave birth to triplets--two dear baby girls and a precious baby boy. I had the best time shopping for these little outfits and even made a card to welcome them (definitely outside my comfort zone--I am not a papercrafter by any means, but it turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself). I fell in love with these sweet pink dresses with matching hairbands and I think the little boy will look mighty sharp in his plaid shorts and spiffy white crested shirt, don't you? Now, I would love to stitch some little Christmas ornaments or a triplet themed sampler for them and that is where I could use your help. Have you stitched or received anything that would be appropriate for a trio of new babies? I'd really like to make something special for them as I watched their mom grow up from the time she was a tiny baby herself and her family moved in three houses down from me. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be so appreciative. Baby gifts and handmade card to welcome a trio of new babies After all of these years, I've finally read an old classic, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett and, oh, how I enjoyed it. Am I the only adult who had never read it as a child? I actually think I probably appreciate it and enjoy it more now than I would have as a child. And, of course, I had to watch the movie as soon as I finished the book, and it was charming. A perfect movie for spring with all of the budding gardens and newborn animals--and did I mention the sheep? Lots and lots of sheep for all of you cross-stitch sheep lovers (myself included!). Anyway, if you haven't read the classic book or seen the movie, I highly recommend them both... MOVIN' TO BLOGLOVIN': With the upcoming demise of the Google Reader you can now follow my blog in a new reader simply by clicking on this link and signing up: Stitching Dreams blog. Hope to see you all there! Well, that's it for this week, my friends... Thanks so very much for stopping by and saying "hi!" I do appreciate each and every comment so very much. I wish you a week filled with sunshine! Bye for now...
Приспичило мне повышивать, и увидела я на просторах Интернета интересные игрушки с вышивкой. Сделала я себе комплектик и похвасталась подруге, а та заставила
I went a little overboard with my hexie pincushions. So, if you would like to win one, just leave a comment, telling me how many pincushions you own and whether you prefer red or blue. I think (hope) I will be able to part with one red and one blue. I'll announce the winners on Saturday. Susan x
I finished up Autumn Leaves tonight. I was determined to get it done! I'm so happy with how it turned out. At first I wasn't sure about going with the pumpkin, but now I like it... At least it will be tomorrow because we're due to get 3-5 inches of snow! Now ordinarily, that might send me fleeing to the grocery store to stock up on things like the rest of the folks in western Pennsylvania always seem to do before a forecast storm. But, since I just finished my shopping yesterday, I'm content to settle in and wait for the storm and enjoy a beautiful white Christmas!! And you know what? Somehow, everything came together and I'm ready for the big day. Today, I'll settle in and bake some cookies, do a bit of cleaning, and just wait for all of my sons to come home tomorrow... I can hardly wait until we're all here together! The tree is up and since so many of you have asked for a photo of it, here you go... Christmas Tree 2012 To me, it doesn't look much different than last year's tree except there are a dozen more ornaments! Here is a close-up shot from a different angle... And another... And one more... When I took the ornaments from their under-the-bed hiding place this week I began noticing how many of them fit into one of five categories! You have the snowman theme: Snowman Themed Ornaments Then there is the Santa themed grouping (lots of Prairie Schoolers, aren't there?): Santa Themed Ornaments I also found many that fit in with my love of nature--lots of animals, trees, and, forest scenes... Nature Themed Ornaments Then there are the house-themed little beauties. There is something so comforting about stitching a home, isn't there? And these range from birdhouses, to gingerbread houses, to warm, beckoning homes: House Themed Ornaments Finally, the "just-plain-cute" category--the elves, the angels, the gingerbread boys: "Just-Plain-Cute" Ornaments And there you have it! I hope you've enjoyed my tour of ornaments... Some of you asked if I left the ornaments that I stitched this year on my staircase garland all month. The answer is no--I move them to the tree right before Christmas so everything is grouped together. Yes, I know the tree looks a bit crowded, but I love it this way. I'm thinking about getting a smaller tree next year for my smallest stitched ornaments (and you know me--I do love small!)...we'll see! I've received some lovely gifts from around the world which I'd love to share with you today, too. From my sweet friend June came this LHN "Joy" ornament all the way from England. Isn't it beautiful? I do love it, June, and the other assorted goodies you included. The cat bookmark calendar is perfect for a cat-loving reader like me, and she also sent a little house-shaped needleminder, and a wee blank book so I could write down my hopes and dreams. So adorable... Thank you so much, my friend. You really made me smile! Gift from June From a new friend, Robin (no blog), I received the most beautiful Prairie Schooler Santa riding on a reindeer. She chose to stitch it for me because I had commented in a post that I hoped to stitch every design from that chart some day so she wanted to help me out. I just love it, Robin, and the blue fabrics you included are so lovely! Thank you so much--I will proudly add your creation to my tree each year and I look forward to getting to know you better in the coming year. We already share a strong bond in our love for PS designs, don't we? Gift From Robin From my young friend, Valerie, in France, came this wonderful ornament and lots of buttons and trims. I just love the green heart, Valerie--I believe it is the first heart-shaped cross stitch on my Christmas tree as I've not dared to attempt stitching one for myself! Your pretty ribbons and trims and buttons will all be put to good use on future projects. I've really enjoyed getting to know you better this year--your positive attitude always makes your blog a pleasure to visit. Thank you so much, my friend... Gift from Valerie From my sweet friend, Shirlee, who always makes me laugh with the stories on her blog, came another wonderful LHN design called "Joy and Peace." Shirlee stitched and finished it perfectly and I love the fabric and chenille trim she used. I'm guessing that she may have dyed the fabric herself--is that correct, Shirlee? Really a lovely mocha shade... I am so happy to own a "Shirlee-stitched" piece and I'll proudly add it to me tree this year, my friend. Thank you so very much! Gift from Shirlee All the way from Spain came a special package from dear Edit. Edit was one of my first blogging friends and we've exchanged Christmas gifts for several years now. In keeping with my pillow theme this year, she stitched for me this adorable "Joy" pillow trimmed with a cute blue polka-dot fabric. Isn't it sweet? And that fabric with those chubby red-nosed Santas really made me chuckle! Edit included some pretty bells, trims, and a cute JBW chart that I didn't own--I think those stockings may be on my must-stitch list next year. Thank you so much, my friend--your gift really made my day! Gift from Edit From another long-time blogging friend, Cindy, came yet another wonderful Prairie Schooler Santa. I love the little Swarovski crystals she added to the piece for the snow! And her feather-like trim is so perfect. I need to find some of that for myself. He is just beautiful, Cindy, and this little pillow will be a wonderful accent to my Christmas decorating. The fabrics she included are so pretty and just look at that little bird--adorable! Thank you, my friend--for your friendship and for your beautiful gifts. Gift from Cindy And last, but certainly not least, came this adorable ornament from my earliest blogging friend, Myra. If you've never seen this design before, it's because Myra designed it herself! Isn't it charming? Everyone who follows Myra's blog knows that she loves cardinals so, of course, her design included a cheery red bird! The fabric she chose to accent the ornament with is perfect and I love the green chenille trim and little gold star charm. Maybe we have a new budding designer in our midst, what do you think? Thank you so very much, Myra--you always know how to make me smile :) Gift from Myra I was so touched to receive these beautiful gifts from my friends... That is one of the best things about blogging isn't it? The connections we make with fellow stitchers from around the world are so strong and everyone is so supportive. And without a blog, we never would have connected with these friends who share our passion for stitching. Thank you, thank you, my friends!! I also want to thank everyone who has emailed to ask about my son's recovery from his jaw surgery. He is still unable to eat solid food due to a lack of feeling in his mouth/jaw area, but we're hoping he can have some mashed potatoes on Christmas day--a real treat for him after all of the liquids he's been downing. I truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers--as does he. He has a long way to go with his recovery, but, hopefully, the surgery will have been worth it and he'll end up with a nice, normal bite in a few months. And that's about it from here. I want to wish each of you who celebrates a most delightful Christmas with friends and family nearby. I hope your day includes at least one stitching request granted from your wish list! Thank you for your comments, emails, and most of all, your friendship. I do appreciate each of you!! Bye for now... MERRY CHRISTMAS!
