Harleys may still be the kings of the modern custom crowd, but few bikes satisfy the creative fantasies of classic custom motorcycle builders better than a Yamaha XS650 Street Tracker.

"Black, black, and a lot more black" -- one mean thumper from Colombia. The Sotomonte brothers of Colombia's Ace Custom Shop founded their workshop in 2013 along with friend Andrés Cabrales. Though they build everything from salt racers to table lamps, they specialize in motorcycles. Recently, w
We've waxed lyrical about Kawasaki's W800 before, and how great it is as a custom platform. It's simple, reliable and looks good straight off the showroom floor, with a gorgeous engine. For these reasons, Italian shop Di Ferro Motorcycles have selected it for their latest project—spinning it three different ways. Moto Di Ferro was established in 2010 by Marco Lugato, a former motorcycle racer who's work we've featured in the past. Marco's been building bikes since 2004 and decided it was time to put a team together—opening a workshop near the heart of Venice's industrial area. After a few bespoke builds

Critics are sure to dismiss this Yamaha SR500 for its lack of fenders, or its trials rubber. But to hell with them. For builder Boy Janssen it's the perfect country road whip, and it's crammed with lovely details. Boy lives in the Dutch countryside, wrenching in his home workshop as Pancake Customs. You may remember his Yamaha XT600, built for faffing around in the dunes: Now he's back with a squared-off 1978 SR500, in a cool modern tracker style. “The bike had been sitting in my workshop for a few months before I started working on it,” Boy tells us.

An exciting project that involves trimming this TW down to size and powdercoating all the parts. Slim alloy tank, custom fenders, wide tracker bars and a mini flat headlight completes the custom street tracker look. More build pics on our Facebook page .

I really like the scrambler and street tracker styles. Often they are applied to bikes that wouldn't really actually work off a sealed road but I don't particularly care, at least they can actually be ridden, unlike a lot of the 'custom choppers' If you seen a cool pic of a scrambler or street tracker
If you've ever fantasized about building a Harley-Davidson Sportster flat tracker, there's a good chance that you've pinned a couple of Richard Pollock's bikes to your mood board. Better known as Mule Motorcycles, Richard has been building flat trackers since day dot and has mastered the art. He can make a Sportster go fast, turn left and look spectacular. His latest custom Harley Sportster is pure fire. Built for a friend who races in the Hooligan flat track series on the US West Coast, it has a level of fit and finish that you'd expect from a pro race bike.

Yamaha's lightweight, wheelie-prone TT500 is one of the all-time great off-road bikes. So how do you improve on a machine already close to perfection? When Canadian Paul Miller found himself with a basket case '77 TT500, he decided to try. He's built an elegant and nimble street tracker that, despite first impressions, is street-legal. There's hardly a square inch of this bike that hasn't been massaged: the only remaining pure TT500 parts are the engine and the front half of the frame. Miller, 25, lives in the oil town of Calgary, Alberta, and grew up around street rods and drag

The Honda XR600R -- affectionately known as the "Big Red Pig" -- was the king of the desert for a decade and more. Introduced in 1985, the big air-cooled XR quickly rose to dominance at Baja and beyond, unseating the 500cc two-strokes and maintaining an off-road reign that lasted until the introduct

Introduced in 1982, the Honda FT500 -- aka Honda Ascot -- was named after the storied Ascot flat track outside of Los Angeles. The engine was similar to the ones used in the XR500 and XL500. Yamaha had already done something similar, using the same engine in the TT500 off-roader, XT500 dual-sport, a
