SOLD! This exact paddle was sold to an Etsy customer in August, 2022. Although it is sold, I can make more. ***TAKE $ 1,700. OFF the Listed price of $ 3,375. off this canoe paddle (or any of the other canoe paddle Designs built from Ancient Cypress)! I can substitute "Sinker Cypress" for the "Ancient Cypress". The Sinker Cypress is visually identical to the Ancient Cypress, but is stronger and much less expensive. Sinker and Ancient Cypress are the same wood species...Bald Cypress, but the Sinker has not been buried in sand or river beds as long as the Ancient. In some cases, the Sinker Cypress HAS been excavated from the same 40 foot deep stratum, but the salvage crew did not have the log officially carbon-dated. Chances are that it is the same age. Substituting the Sinker for the Ancient drops the price down to $ 1,675. The Listed Price is for the paddle only. There are available display options that are Listed in the woodsongcanoes Etsy Shop that can be purchased separately. Convo me about those various options. This paddle has a pair of high-strength N-42 magnets embedded in the blade. It can be fitted to the magnetic Invisible Paddle Hanging System (IPHS) wall-mounted display hanger. The following is a link to a video showing the IPHS in action: https://v-cg.etsystatic.com/video/upload/ac_none,du_15,q_auto:good/20210305_133008_ooytkg.mp4 This paddle is an "Ancient Cypress Gig Harbor Sunrise"..."Design" made from 45,000 year old Ancient Cypress as the primary wood species and salvaged Eastern Red Cedar as the accent wood species. It is a 5 degree, Single-Bend S-Blade..."Style" canoe paddle. There is a 2nd Listing for this same exact paddle in my woodsongcanoes Etsy Shop. I had 20 photos of the paddle (10 photos is the maximum allowed per Listing), so I created the 2nd Listing in order to make those photos available to any interested customer. It's important to reiterate that the golden iridescent "shimmer" associated with the Ancient woods (both Kauri and Cypress) are rarely able to be appreciated in photos. Video is better, but nothing beats holding the paddle in your hands in good light, and moving the paddle around so that that shimmering moves as the light reflects the physical differences in the grain (figure) of the wood. If you LIKE the images...you'll love the real thing! The term "Style" is my in-house term that refers to the physical shape of the paddle...regardless of the artistic "Design". There are different Styles of paddles because there are many different types of paddling styles due to canoe/kayak/boat types, water conditions, personal preferences, etc. I use the terms "Design" and "Style" often in my writings, texting, Etsy Convos, and verbal conversations. It is important that the customer know the difference in these 2 terms when discussing options and different Designs and Styles...the conversations will make more sense. In my physical shop/studio, I offer many different options in both Design and Style. The customer can pretty much custom order a paddle in any combination of Design and Style. I will of course help narrow those choices down by asking certain questions during our conversations. Your answers will lead me to be able to make good sound recommendations to you for Style, Design, and finally wood species selection. Having built over 1,000 paddles, and having worked with nearly 1,000 customers (canoes and furniture as well as paddles), I can assure you that I am very comfortable in helping customers personally with making these decisions. For instance, a customer could get a "Hawaiian Sunrise" Design in a variety of Styles: 5 degree, Single-Bend S-Blade (3 different blade sizes) 12 degree, Double-Bend S-Blade (the same 3 different blade sizes) 13 degree, Double-Bend S-Blade, Hawaiian Outrigger canoe Style (4 different blade sizes) 13 degree, Double-Bend S-Blade, Marathon Racing canoe Style (2 different blade sizes) Straight-Shaft FreeStyle canoe paddle (I have 1 size blade, but can take your custom blade shape pattern too) And also 3 different Kayak paddles...feathered to your request for "Touring" and "White-water", and Greenland-Style. But the customer could also get a 5 degree, Single-Bend S-Blade Style canoe paddle built in a wide variety of Designs. Those would encompass the very simple "Simplicity" Designs, to the very intricate "Gig Harbor Sunrise" and the "Blackwater Beauty" Designs, and many in between. The final decisions usually come down to 2 considerations: 1. TASTE. Does the customer prefer an intricately crafted Design with multiple colors, curves and lines, or a more subtle Design with limited colors, or maybe only a single wood species like in the "Simplicity" Designs? The 2nd consideration is: 2. COST. Some of my paddles are far more costly than others...even in the same exact "Style". For instance, a Curly Koa "Hawaiian Blackwater Beauty" Design vs. a Western Red Cedar "Simplicity" Design, both of which were built in a 5 degree, Single-Bend S-Blade Style, will have a huge price difference due to both raw materials cost, and labor cost. The Cedar "Simplicity" would run $825, whereas the Koa "Hawaiian Blackwater Beauty" would be priced at $5,000....a full 600% more! WHY?? I price my paddles using 2 main criteria: 1. Labor....how many man-hours goes into the production of a particular paddle. The "Blackwater Beauty" Design that incorporates Gabon Ebony veneers, is a really difficult, time consuming Design to produce, whereas the "Simplicity" is built in less than half the time. The fiberglass and epoxy applied to the blade, and the epoxy applied to the shaft and grip, and all the subsequent finish work are all the exact same process whether the paddle is a Simplicity or an intricate Blackwater Beauty Design. So it's the actual woodworking prior to the protective epoxying and finish work that affect the total man-hours required for any given paddle. 2. Raw Material (wood)....what does it cost me to obtain a certain amount of wood (enough to make a paddle) of a given species. The more expensive wood species like Curly Koa are also much harder to source. So that means that I also must include the time (man-hours) required to find/source the wood and possibly have it shipped to me. All added up, Curly Koa and Ancient Kauri will cost me a minimum of $200 per board foot to get the wood to my shop, while Curly Maple will only be around $10 per board foot. That's 20 X as much....2,000% higher! So on to the Descriptions/Details of this particular paddle in this Listing: It's important to note that this paddle is made from Ancient Cypress. Ancient Cypress is 45,000 year old wood that is extremely rare and expensive. An entire forest of cypress trees were discovered in sand mines in Florence County, South Carolina; buried under 35-50 feet of "bone sand" being mined for use in sand traps on golf courses. These trees were determined to have gone down in a single great flood, many with their root systems intact and vines still wrapped around their trunks. These trees were mostly lying on top of one another, oriented in a north/south direction. Many scientists descended on the 2 sites, and after studying the find for a couple years, held a Symposium on their findings in early 2005. The trees have been radio carbon-dated by the University of Georgia to 45,000 years old...the lack of oxygen in the sand mines perfectly preserving them. The logs are excavated, milled into lumber/slabs, and then kiln-dried. The wood is NOT petrified; it is just preserved, and so is very workable as is any modern milled wood species. When I build anything from either the Ancient Kauri, or the Ancient Cypress, I provide a Certificate of Authenticity with it. I print them on gold-colored calligraphy paper, and it ships in a folder, inside the box with the paddle. In addition to exchanging the Ancient Cypress for Sinker Cypress, I can also exchange the Ancient Cypress for fairly dark Western Red Cedar. This will end up with a similar overall color pattern, but not exactly the same as either of the Cypress wood. But...it would be a little bit lighter weight. If you have any questions about the paddle in this Listing, or any of the other pieces seen in my other Listings on Etsy, or maybe something that I don't have Listed, please send me a Convo. When I was invited to attend a press trip to experience Louisiana courtesy of North Louisiana and Natchitoches Convention and Visitors Bureau’s, highlighting historical sites, I jumped at the chance. Louisiana is a great place for historic travel. I have always been interested in visiting historical places. Whether it be an old European church or an Spanish fort, I have always been intrigued by what things were like in years past. Find Shreveport Hotels on TripAdvisor Starting in Shreveport our group had the opportunity to visit several historic homes and the Strand Theater. Placed on the National Register of
No mountains. Few curves. But Florida has plenty of scenery and a handful of roads that take you through unspoiled natural beauty and picturesque historic sites.
East of Naples, the Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk at Fakahatchee Strand State Park offers a peek into a notable natural landmark, a strand of virgin cypress.

From the canyons of Big Bend to the cypress swamps of Pine Island Bayou, the waters of Texas have something for most every type of paddler and every paddling mood. One might float the diminutive Comal River, argued to be the shortest river in the world. Another might dig deep and follow the four-day, 260-mile route of the Texas Water Safari, which Canoe & Kayak Magazine referred to as "The World's Toughest Canoe Race." Whitewater is here too. Lakes are as well. And, the Texas Gulf Coast is home to sandy beaches, knobby mangroves, and sea grass flats. Meanwhile, Texas is home to some of the fastest growing cities in America. And, paddling is the fastest growing outdoor sport in the country. "Paddling Texas" is a guide for those who are new to either and all those who love both. Featured trips offer easy access, secure environments, good facilities, great fishing, superb wildlife viewing, and beautiful scenery. "Paddling Texas" gives recreational paddlers and anglers all the information they'll need to paddle many of the best trips in Texas. 9780762791262 0762791268 0 BOOK Canoes and canoeing NOT_MATURE http://books.google.com/books/content?id=6mrroAEACAAJ&printsec=frontcover&img=1&zoom=5&source=gbs_api en | Author: Shane Townsend | Publisher: Falcon Guides | Publication Date: Nov 01, 2014 | Number of Pages: 240 pages | Language: English | Binding: Paperback | ISBN-10: 0762791268 | ISBN-13: 9780762791262
