DESCRIPTION Dahlias are among the easiest plants to grow in the garden! With this order, you will receive one tuber, ready to plant in the ground immediately. Tubers are the easiest way to grow Dahlias. Tubers are mature, bare-root plants that can be planted directly into the ground when the soil warms up a little from mid-April. Dahlia plants are half-hardy, so it's important to keep them protected from frosts. The Dahlia Impression Fabula, 'Dahlia' produces soft flowers purple in color with white edges. Each bloom grows to around 5 cm across, and is a beautiful mix of deep plum and white, with a golden eye that helps to attract bees and other pollinators. Growing to just 50 cm or so in height, it's ideal for pots - or front-of-border positions. It blooms in early summer and produces large amounts of flowers, and they are especially suitable for bedding plants, balconies and patios. Great cut flower with a long vase life Classified as a Collarette Dahlia Planting period: February to May, depending on the temperatures Height at maturity: 50 cm Flower diameter: 5 cm Flowering time: July to November/first frost Foliage: Deciduous Soil type: Moist and rich, well-drained Will Tolerate: Acidic Soil, Clay Soil, Loamy Soil, Sandy Soil Exposure: Full sun Growth Rate: Fast Planting density: 3-5 per square meter Planting depth: 10 cm Hardiness: Not hardy (lift the tubers out in winter) USDA Zones: 3-10 All dahlia flowers are edible, scatter their petals on salads for flavor, texture and color. CARE Pot up undercover in spring, place somewhere light and frost-free and keep moist. Pinch out growing tips at 20cm and plant out after last frosts. Alternatively, you can plant them directly in the ground when the frosts are nearly over. Dahlias tubers can be stored in the refrigerator until planting time or get a head start on spring and start them indoors in a sunny window. The dormant tubers are planted out in the spring, from February to end of May. Dahlias like to be watered when it is hot, their roots kept in the shade and their heads in the sun. Dead-head on a regular basis to promote new blooms. Stake with a stout stick, tie in every couple of weeks. Pruning: Remove spent flower heads to encourage more blooms and maintain a neat appearance. Feed (fertilize) and water regularly during the growing season. Always water at the base of each plant, to avoid wetting the foliage. In the south, you can mulch deeply and overwinter them in the ground, alternatively, lift and overwinter your dahlias frost-free undercover.
