I'm a fan of mysterious photographs, packed with symbolism, whose exact meaning eludes me. This used to be my favorite way of working, and I can really appreciate it in this series by French artist Juliette Bates. I love the juicy, velvety blacks and creamy whites; the simple, exact compositions; and the consistency and repetition of colors and textures in these images, as well as the perfect clarity of the glass domes photographed.

They taught us the meaning of photography, the very smell of composition and the beautiful essence of lights and shadows. Their works teach us great insights on all aspects of photography.

© Ashley Lebedev | Bottle Bell ™ "Birds of Passage" | Part 1 Plz view larger, here: 500px.com/photo/37964310 The idea for this particular character (and sequence) was to have a woman who was always migrating, from one place to another. I liked the idea of having her be (for this image) very regal and warm within a backdrop of a somewhat barren location & having her bear a more lush forest within her own stomach, almost as if she was bringing that warmth to colder places as she travels through them. I tried to discreetly place a forest that I once traveled through myself, into her stomach and the idea was to have it be as if she is populating her new colder location from the warmth carried from there & from that lush hall of trees that peaks out from inside of her. Detail of forest is next to this image, here: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151647781544706&set... The bird next to her is a small hint that maybe it's flown from that more vibrant forest, into this new place & because it's from her, I wanted it to match her. As with all things in Faerieland, I like to keep those hints somewhat subtle. I also want them to blend in, making it seem like maybe it's just a gown with a pretty design. Hope you enjoy this one ~ In about a week I will post the next image, so keep that orange forest in mind There are so many fun BTS of this, but this particular shoot is being covered in just a few weeks by a major magazine, so I'm sitting on those until they publish ~~ I'd like to thank Ashley Rae Weisz (of ANTM fame, among other things) for modeling for me in this sequence, in what I think is her 4th or 5th time working with two of my storyboards. You might recognize her as the woman in my "Raven" photo (The girl w/ the bow & arrow) or as the Brownie sleeping in the giant nest after she's looted the egg from it. Rae is an absolute chameleon & I try to photograph her whenever she changes her hair color. Rae, really, I love you. Thank you as well to Julie Lam for taking on the hair & makeup I wanted for this sequence, which proved to be more challenging than we initially thought it'd be :p And, as mentioned yesterday, I am trying to post an image a day & tomorrow's is alllmost ready. With all these characters, I am excited to post another faerieLANDSCAPE, in the morning. x -Ashtree, x twitter | facebook

"These walls I can take, but these restrictions to my life I cannot" - Shindler's List This is my favourite quote from Shindler's List. I watched it the other day and cried the whole way through, and seeing as today is Remembrance Day I figured I would make my 365 in conjunction with WWII. I got the bird cage from a little antique shop called Maggie Mays in Buxton - the lady who owns it is so lovely, she is always lending me out props and she has so much cool stuff in there! Tomorrow I get the afternoon off school so I get to take an outside photo, yay! :) Our blog!
