Pin7.3kFacebook9Share1 So you painted your furniture. You even like the way it turned out. But it seems to be missing something. It looks good… but you know it could be better. Time to dress it up. There are multiple products out there that can help with this. From tissue paper to wallpaper, stencils to gold leaf. Your options are many. But today I’m going to talk to you about decor transfers. There are many brands available today for you to choose from. I recently painted an antique armoire in a bright, vibrant color using Dixie Belle Paint products in Flamingo and Fluff. The colors were blended together for a one of a kind finish. The paint finish was very pretty but I wanted to take it to the next level… a little extra if you will. 🙌🏼 In comes decor transfers by Redesign With Prima. I chose a design called Rose Celebration because the colors complimented my paint finish so well. I mean… It’s like they were meant for one another! Decor transfers come in different styles and sizes to fit your needs. This particular design comes in 6 pieces to make the application process easier. It can get a little cumbersome trying to hold and apply one large sheet. The transfer will come with instructions and a little wooden applicator stick to rub the transfer onto your piece of furniture (or whatever you decide to put it on. Hint: it can be applied to multiple surfaces). And speaking of multiples… you can actually use the designs on multiple projects at times. This particular transfer was used on two different pieces of furniture because I cut and applied sections where I saw fit as opposed to applying the whole design. I do this a lot. Once you remove your transfer from the cylinder it comes in, it’s a good idea to lay it out and see which sections go where. You also want to make sure your piece of furniture is ready for the transfer. This means having a smooth, clean surface to apply it to. After you complete your paint finish, you want to make sure you sand it smooth with a 320 or 400 grit sandpaper to remove any lumps and bumps that could cause adhesion problems for your transfer. Don’t forget to dust afterwards. Transfers come in three parts. A clear front, the design itself, and a paper backing. The transfer should be printed on to the clear front. When you’re ready to apply it, line it up on your project of choice and slowly start to peel the paper backing away from the clear front. Again, your design should remain on the clear front. Depending on the size of the piece you’re working with and your confidence level, you can either remove the whole backing at once… or you can peel it back in small sections for more control. Press the clear front with the design to your project. Gently rub/press so it sticks. Try not to remove it once you’ve laid it down as it may stick causing damage when you lift it back up. You can use tape if you’d like to hold the piece in place and prevent moving. Next, use your stick provided by Prima to rub over the clear front. This will cause the design to let lose from the front and be pressed securely onto your project. It takes a good bit of rubbing and you will definitely get an arm workout in. I gently lift the clear front up as I’m rubbing with the stick. You can see if the design is staying on your project or still sticking to the clear front. Keep rubbing if it’s the later. Continue doing this while peeling back the clear front until you’ve rubbed all of the design image off of the clear front and onto your project. You’ve done it! Great job. Now… time to do the other 5 sheets. 😂It’s tedious and a bit time consuming but so worth the effort when you’re able to take a project from drab to dramatic.
