After spending a couple of hours surfing the net looking for inspirational and unusual designers/artists I finally found one that took my breath away. The amount of work that has gone into her costumes is incredible. She uses a lot of wire work which you can't notice from afar, but once you see the bodices up close its amazing that amount of precision is possible. Seeing these just make me want to get the pliers and copper wire out and give it a go. I imagine it will take a few years of practice to get it up to this standard though. The other point that drew me to this artist is how young she is, at 18 she won the supreme wearable art award with the entry pictured below, this was after having 10 years of experience at making these wearable art pieces! Gradually getting more advanced of course, I would be gobsmacked if an 8 year old could manipulate wire at this standard, then again Mozart composed his first piece at the age of 4. Her Website My second thought when seeing these garments (my first was wow...) was that the amount of sterling silver wire used must have cost a bomb...so of course I had to find out how much it was. For just a metre its £6.70. Here are a couple of her other pieces that caught my eye: If you think these are pretty cool then you should check out the world of wearable art website here! The imagination thats gone into these picese is incredible.

Artist Kit Paulson has a broad interest in art, science, and history that intersects superbly in her career as a glass sculptor. Over the past several years she’s explored human anatomy through a variety of skull and bones pieces, as well as wearable objects like masks, armor, and even a pair of gloves. Paulson is currently finishing an MFA at Southern Illinois University and will be teaching upcoming workshops at Pittsburgh Glass Center, Bildwerk Frauenau, and Pilchuck Glass School. More

Upcycled Jacket, Hand Embroidered Blazer, Wearable Art, Art to Wear, Upcycled Clothing for Women, Artsy Boho Jacket, OOAK Unique Jacket, XL This is a striking one of a kind jacket that makes a big statement... one of my favorite ever jackets. It is just full of detailed hand embroidery. The label says "Relativity", 97% cotton, 3% spandex, XL. It has 3 usable pockets on the front. It has a 4 button closure. This jacket has a lot going on to say the least. The front of this piece is STUNNING! So filled with upcycled velvet, fabrics, laces, vintage hand embroidery. Near the right shoulder, I've added a rose made from a vintage silk kimono. Refer to the pictures to see all the details. The back of the jacket has a lovely vintage crochet piece hand sewn on. I've hand embroidered the words "peace begins in your own heart" on the back, the sleeve, and the bottom front of the jacket. The bottom of the sleeves has hand embroidered details as well and the left sleeve has a vintage piece hand sewn onto the elbow. This jacket, like all of my other creations, is unique and completely made from upcycled materials. The ONLY "new" materials used were thread and embroidery floss.
