This is a true Swedish design classic by Marianne Westman for Rorstrand. The striking cobalt blue flowers against the white background is one of the most recognisable Swedish porcelain patterns. This is sold as a set of tea cup and saucer. Using this bright set for breakfast would give you the best possible start to the day. Marianne Westman (1928-2017) was born in Falun in central Sweden. In 1946 she started ceramics studies at the prestigious University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. After her graduation in 1950 Marianne was handpicked by the famous Rorstrand ceramic factory. During the Rorstrand years (1950 to 1971) Marianne was often quick to identify new trends and production methods. Her distinctive, lighthearted designs for household items earned her a lasting place in Nordic design history. The first tableware that Marianne Westman designed for Rörstrand was the Mon Amie pattern. The sketch of a simple flower, created on a rainy midsummer in the late 1940s by Marianne Westman, became a lasting piece of art in many households. The VDN mark on the base of these items was based on a system of standardized testing methods and the aim was to provide comparative consumer information. The VDN marking included electrical household appliances, housewares, foodstuffs and textiles. It was a body that was active between 1951 and 1972. Numbers show certain properties, for example P555= no risk of glaze cracks, withstands dishwasher at 75 degrees. So this particular set of Mon Amie has the VDN P555 mark which means it was made in the 60s from feldspar porcelain and there is no risk of glaze cracks.
