About three times a term all apartments undergo inspections to check on the cleanliness of each apartment. If you ask me, I think it's a little silly considering they literally white glove our surfaces.......... I get it, they're your properties and you want them to be treated well, but we're all adults here, come on. Regardless of what I think though, they still had to be done. You are given a time window of when inspections will be, about ten days, but you are not told what day your apartment will be inspected, which means your apartment must remain spotless until you finally get inspected. On the third day of inspections we were finally inspected and we passed. Although we did not get the "White Glove" award (you get cookies or something as a prize), I'm glad we didn't fail because failing means you get fined. We passed in every section except in my bedroom's "trash" section because we hadn't taken out the trash... -.- I find it pretty funny that that's the only section we failed because I was the one being the most uptight about inspections, haha I guess that's my karma. Below is the page in the Programs Guide about inspections, spelling out what is required and what is inspected. Even though my roommates hated having to clean the apartment every night with the chance of inspections in the morning, my OCD self LOVED having the apartment as clean as it was and with that in mind, I'm not exactly hating the idea of the next inspection!
Today I had my DAKlimation training to become acclimated to Disney's Animal Kingdom (ahhhh I see what you did there). DAKlimation began at 8:00am so I planned to take the 7:05 bus from Chatham to get there at 7:35. However, when I got to Chatham at 6:50am, the next bus wasn't coming until 7:37...a bit of a problem for me. So I ended up driving after all and with the help of my bus app map and a couple of u-turns later, I eventually made it to the cast parking lot and found my way to the Cast Service Building. Like Traditions, I had to dress in business casual today, and after learning my lesson yesterday with wearing a skirt in the unusually cold weather here, I switched to pants and a blazer. Let me tell you...THIS DID NOT HELP! It was so cold first thing in the morning and didn't warm up until...uhhhh right now at 3:30pm, and it's STILL pretty chilly! Of course, the first thing we did in the wonderful chill was take a park tour to become well acquainted with Disney's Animal Kingdom's five lands. Each land has a different story, a different conservation message, and a different greeting, and it was really neat learning all of those, it definitely made more excited to work at DAK! The first thing we did on our tour was ride Kilimanjaro Safaris before the park opened, which, of course, was AWESOME. And as a prize for getting up so early and being up so early, we actually got to see more of the animals because they're more active in the early morning! After the park tour, our leaders talked to us about "Disney's Four Keys" at DAK (view last post, if you're really interested in that) for about forty five more minutes, gave us the rest of our training schedules, and then we were broken for lunch at Pride Rock Cafeteria, the cast member cafeteria for DAK cast members. Apparently all cast member cafeterias have a Subway in them, and homegirl got a six inch meal for like four bucks....uh, what?! My training schedule is as follows: Saturday - Merchandise Tier 1 Sunday - Merchantainment Monday - Merchandise Tier 3 Tuesday - OFF DAY Wednesday - OFF DAY Thursday - Merchandise Tier 4 Friday - Merchandise Tier 5 After lunch, came the best (and I say this in a half sarcastic way) part of our day...costuming. I drove to DAK Wardrobe and there had to try on a bunch of different sizes before finally getting the right ones in both tops and pants. When I found the right sizes, I eventually went home with five tops, five bottoms, one winter jacket, one rain jacket, a pair of gloves, and a fanny pack to keep my rain stuff in. I made a lot of promises that I would show my costume today, but I didn't take any pictures while I was there trying them on because it was just so hectic. However, I do have to wear my costume tomorrow to training, so you will definitely be seeing it tomorrow when I take my picture in the morning (which is now weirdly becoming some sort of ritual?). DAKlimation was just fine, there wasn't a ton of information just thrown at you, which was nice, it really is just what they say, just to get acclimated with the park. I got to meet some nice people in my group and even met a really sweet girl who is also doing Asia Merchandise and also lives in Patterson, so it looks like I found my carpool buddy!! I have absolutely no idea what to expect tomorrow, but I can't wait to fill you in on what happens. I'm still trying to decide if I should go to the parks tonight, I am definitely pretty tired, and I still need to go get work shoes, which I will be going to Walmart for...woo! Also, I think you can be expecting a vlog on Tuesday!

Today was Discovery Day, which is my Epcot orientation! Every Cast Member that works at Epcot has gone through Discovery Day, whether they start here or transfer over from another park! Discovery Day is where we learn about the exploration and discovery that Epcot represents. A quick selfie on my way to Discovery Day! Epcot is a really special park because "The Florida Project" was Walt's last theme park idea and the whole reason that we even have Walt Disney World in Florida. Originally, Epcot wasn't going to be a theme park, but instead a model city, hence the name Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Walt was a man well ahead of his time, and wanted to create this perfect city in hopes of fixing the many problems in our world. Unfortunately with his passing, this project changed a little, but Epcot still encompasses many of Walt's ideals and visions. We discussed in our class how Epcot combines innovation with culture in Future World and the World Showcase. My Epcot Park Orientation day! Discovery Day is where we begin to get acclimated with the park as a Cast Member. We were given a tour of the entire park. Now I've been to Epcot MANY times, and I could probably make my way around with a blindfold, but it was still exciting to view the park as a Cast Member and realize that I have the opportunity to work at Walt Disney's legacy. We had a special Cast Member welcoming that I can't talk about (we swore to Mickey!), but it is done in view of the guests, so you may have seen it before, like I actually had! It was a really special moment that I will never forget! I received the famous "Earning My Ears" tag! After the Discovery Day portion of the day was over, we were picked up by our trainers. There are two other Epcot Vacation Planners that checked in to the program on the same day as me and we will be going through training together! Welcome to the Epcot Vacation Planning team! We were given a tour of the Vacation Planning areas and we even got to observe in the booths! This was incredibly helpful because we got to witness guest interactions before we started training ourselves. We also got to pick up our costumes, which was really exciting! Trying on my costume for the very first time!!! It was a long day, but an exciting one! I'm now part of the Epcot family!

There are four apartment complexes available to students participating in the Disney College Program. They are pretty much right on Disney World Resort property. The four complexes are: The Commons, Patterson Court, Vista Way, and Chatham Square. The Commons From what I've heard, this is the first year the The Commons are available to all CPers, up until that point they were specifically for International Program students. According to the Facebook group, they are the only complex with IN-UNIT washers and driers and this has NOT changed even with the change to who can live in The Commons. It is located in the same vicinity as Patterson Court, Chatham Square and Mickey's Retreat. The bus stop stops at The Commons for all three of these apartment complexes. From what I've seen on YouTube of apartment tours of The Commons, they look very similar to Chatham Square bedrooms. There is also a pool, fitness center, sand volleyball court, and tennis courts. According to the Onboarding website, weekly rent for The Commons is: 1BR - 4BR $105 - $93 Patterson Court Located in the same area as Chatham Square and The Commons, Patterson Court has four on-site laundry units, which use credit/debit cards and offer text message alerts, a fitness center, pool, and outdoor pool table. Students who live here must take the bus stop from Chatham square. According to the Onboarding website, weekly rent for Patterson Court is: 1BR - 3BR $101 - $91 Vista Way Vista Way is located about five minutes from the other three apartment complexes but within walking distance from Chik-Fil-A, Wendy's, Starbucks, etc. There is one mail kiosk, a fitness center (rumor on Facebook says they have the best fitness center), a laundry facility in each building, two pools, san volleyball court, outdoor pool table, tennis court, basketball court, and two hot tubs. Vista Way has its own bus stop. Vista Way also has the "party" reputation, although this kind of seems silly to me because it really just depends on the people that live there. According to the Onboarding website, weekly rent for Patterson Court is: 2BR - 3BR $96 - $86 Chatham Square Right across from Mickey's Retreat, Chatham Square has the only bus stop for Patterson Court and The Commons, two mail kiosks, four laundry facilities, which take debit/credit cards, fitness center, pool, sand volleyball court, outdoor pool table, and tennis courts. According to the Onboarding website, weekly rent for Patterson Court is: 1BR - 4BR $101 - $91 Mickey's Retreat Located between Chatham Square and The Commons, Mickey's Retreat is Disney World's cast member only recreation facility. It has two swimming pools, a marina with canoe and paddle boat rentals, children's play area, picnic pavilions, four sand volleyball courts, a banquet room, and much more. Housing Amenities Below is a list of amenities including in the price of your rent: All utilities, including water, electricity, waste disposal High-speed Internet access in all apartments (additional information below) Local phone service and one central phone Centrally located laundry facilities Maintenance of the apartments, including pest control Onsite security Cable television hook-up Computer labs Wireless Internet Lounge, Clubroom Thirteen501 Swimming pools Weight rooms Tennis, basketball and racquetball courts Fully furnished apartment Bedroom Dresser w/ mirror Nightstand (2) twin beds Dining Room Table w/ four chairs Living Room (Cable hook-up only available in this common area) Couch Chair Two end tables Additional Items Provided Shower curtain liner Two vanity wastebaskets Kitchen wastebasket Recycling bin Kitchen Appliances Refrigerator w/ ice maker Stove, oven, & microwave Dishwasher Kitchen Utensils and Dishes Assortment of pots & pans w/lids Mixing bowl set Measuring cups Cutting board Spatula Can opener Cutting knife Ladle Tea kettle Serving spoons Cookie sheets Dinner plates Salad plates Cereal bowls Drinking glasses Coffee cups Set of knives, spoons and forks *Each complex and apartment layout is unique. Amenities may differ between apartments. All apartments have wired, high-speed Internet access. However, there are a few computer requirements: Anti-virus software that runs constantly and automatically updates its virus definitions. Ethernet card CAT5 cable A firewall program or router that serves as a firewall The DSL modem has four ports and is located in the living room; so, many cast members also bring a wireless router. There are also multiple locations around the housing properties that have wireless Internet access. Computer labs also are available at the housing complexes and Disney Learning Centers across Walt Disney World® Resort property.
