So, I failed to get the Friday Flashback Linky up yesterday. What can I say? I didn't get home until 8:00pm yesterday and the brain was officially fried! If you were in the same boat, I hope you'll link up today! Here's a peek at our week... We've been LOVING poetry in room 205! This week we made these precious Poetry Pops to show that our Poetry is popping with onomatopoeia!! And, to review alliteration, we created these Alliterainbows! We've had a lot of fun locating these literary devices in poems that we're reading and also learning to use them in poems that we're writing! Both of the above activities will be in a new Poetry Packet that I'm finishing up now (as in today, I hope!) We've written a LOT of different types of poems over the last two weeks using our Poetry Styles #1 Unit and being inspired by authors that we've read. Here's a look at a few that are ready to be published. We've got even more styles to learn about and write next week, but once we're finished we will be publishing them into hard-bound books. They are always SUPER excited about this! Here's a look at a few of their covers that they worked on designing this week... I got a TON of these hardcovers from a grant I wrote YEARS ago and they have been fabulous. Unfortunately, I have now almost depleted my supply! {Maybe another grant needs to be in my future?} They are from Lintor Publishing if you're interested in them. They come with the binding paper to use with them. Poetry + Music (see my last post about my new Kidz Bop CDs) = student love.... This one put a BIG smile on my face because it was from a student who is not prone to writing "love" notes. And this one was extra special because she referred to a poem we studied in class about question marks being sea horses. And, well, because she loves me like her mom. Boy, do they know how to make you feel better after a L-O-N-G rough week! :)
Star Wars is just getting better and better. And thus, more and more popular! There's so many great books and such to promote. And guess what's coming up next week? Yep, May 4th! So it only made sense to make a free printable Star Wars library display! The idea originated with this share from Ridgewood Public Library. I liked it so much, I thought I'd make my own to share. And, to add my own personal touch, Han now is holding a book. He's researching Vader's Little Princess. Yep, you better believe it. Chewie is holding a stack of books, too. You can access the .pdf printables here. I have both the poster and the bookmarks. It's sized 11x 14.25, which means if you want to print it big on a 11x17, you can. Otherwise, it downsizes quite nicely to a 8.5x11. The bookmarks are only one-sided; I recommend listing some of your own library's call numbers for your most popular Star Wars books on the back. Put a few books on display nearby, too! Anyway, hope you enjoy it. This doesn't have to be May 4th alone, but would work for Star Wars Reads Day and any other day you feel like celebrating wookiees. Because, obviously, they are pretty awesome.
Have you ever wondered what fire is made of? Here is a look at the composition of fire and its state of matter.
Monday Made it! July 28, 2014 My very first Monday Made it, soooo excited to join this fun linky. I’ve been collaborating with Learning in Wonderland. She has an adorable set of headers that she uses in her class to display her daily objectives. And I have a set of CCSS posters. This week I reworked my posters to match her headers and they turned out amazing! The posters really stand out with the graphics from Melonheadz! For the display I chose a scrapbook paper that looks like lined tablet paper with a border of pencils, brushes and crayons. The objective posters slip so easily into the sheet protector I attached with double sided tape. The bright headers from Learning in Wonderland bring it all together for a truly dynamic display! So far I have the CC posters with the Melonheadz graphics and for First Grade and Second Grade. I plan on getting the sets for K and 3 ready in the next few weeks. You can get the first grade poster set here. Follow Crockett’s Classroom on TPT and you’ll get an email when I add the other sets to my store.
