I challenged myself about a month ago to make as many homemade gifts as I could for my children this year. We have a tradition in our little family to do 3 Gifts of Christmas. Gift of Meaning, Gift of Usefulness and the Gift of Wonder. The stocking is not included and can be filled with as many fun things that will fit :) That is where my homemade challenge falls into place here. I have made several stocking stuffers and my children's gift of meaning for my 3 kids and I'll be sharing those with you over the next little bit. Second homemade item this year are these Ribbon Streamers. I first saw streamers on etsy, and thought how fun and easy they would be to make. I bought very large D Rings from Joann's They also have spools of ribbon for 50 cents each. You simply tie your ribbon onto the rings in the length that you like. That is it. For around $5 I was able to make 4 streamers and I even have ribbon left over to make more. I am so excited to see my girls dancing around, waving these ribbon streamers as they giggle!

A simple Lily stem that will never wilt. Knitted in hand-dyed Everlasto Natural Cotton String and sculpted by hand, these stems look beautiful as a single stem and stunning as a bunch. Galvanised steel wire is used to form the shape of this lily, meaning the stem can easily be manipulated to be perfectly balanced in any vase or bottle. The flower head measures approx. 13cm in diameter and approx. 42cm in length. Each stem is wrapped in tissue and boxed - all the packaging I use is paper-based and fully recyclable. No glue or plastic is used in the making of my string things. This listing is for one stem. Read more

This was a long time in the re-making, but I finally finished the formerly PINK dress form. I really love the way it turned out. It is coming with me to the CreativFestival in Toronto next month. The thing that makes me happiest about this project is that I finally parted with some things I had been saving for the just the "right" project. The ribbon rose is real silk ribbon from Mokuba, a downtown Toronto store I only visit once or twice a year. They have little remnant packages -- made, I think just for me -- and this ribbon was in one of them. Ditto the rice paper leaves I made for the rose. The spool is from the cast of thousands that I dearly love and just enjoy having around. They are a cozy reminder of when I first started sewing on my grandma's old black Singer machine. I hunt them down when I can, people give them to me when they are discovered in the sewing boxes of grandmas and great aunts. Ditto the buttons, acquired from happy button discoveries in thrift stores over the years. The pencil and the scissors are not real, they are from the jewelery and scrapbooking sections of Michaels. I am excited to be going to the CreativeFestival with this overhauled lady. I hope that when people stop to "meet" her, they will also want to learn about embroidery and embellishments. Yep, every now and then, I manage to delight myself.
