This is my little "Summer House" dollhouse. It oozes Cape Cod vintage style with the ease of summertime furnishings. This dollhouse is made from scratch with a bump out section in the front for the entry. This house is 11 3/4" wide x 18 3/4" long x 15 3/4" tall. I had this design in my mind for a long time. The cozy front yard has a sand path that leads to the front door. I love the roofs on this dollhouse. That top front window is such a charmer! I decided the dormer should have the shingles. It's so traditional. I made a screen door for this dollhouse instead of a front door. I didn't want a door to take up any space inside the house. I use real screen from the hardware store between two pieces of veneer. I made this little bistro chair from Evangelione's wonderful tutorial and a wooden box. The switches are in the chimney. One is for the fireplace and the other controls all the lights. I made the entry armoire from bass wood veneer. Downstairs I made 3 chandeliers and working fire all battery operated. I also made a sink, vintage style cooking range, upholstered chair, mantel, kitchen table, stool, laundry basket, ladder steps, baking scene, rug, artwork, plate drying rack, shelves, rolling pin, clay houses, bunting, curtains. I think that's everything! I tried to make these curtains like they were blowing from the wind of the open window. Here you can see the little lights in the logs. I also put a little apron back there. Non of the furniture or accessories are glued down. If you want to make the stove here's my tutorial: http://www.cinderellamoments.com/2014/04/vintage-style-dollhouse-miniature-stove.html Upstairs, everything is handmade. The tutorial for the tray table is here: http://www.cinderellamoments.com/2015/04/dollhouse-miniature-tray-table-tutorial.html Here's the space empty. I hope you enjoyed seeing "Summer House." Jennifer is the proud new owner. ♥♥♥ hugs♥,

This Gothic Victorian inspired dollhouse began as a Tennyson. I liked the basic footprint for the house however, felt it needed major design changes. i added extra doors and windows, changed window sizes, and created a special brick chimney. The interior staircase was also moved. Siding was a must, and for contrast the bay was done in a vertical siding. After all the architectural construction issues were dealt with, the color pallet was next.... I had picked up a flyer at the paint store with a house I loved done in red and green. so using that for basic inspiration, i moved to a fresher updated version. most of the paint colors finally chosen are from the Martha Stewart paint line. this was a very fun pallet to work with! The hand cut and painted bricks used on the front and side steps and chimney were just the right texture and tone to pull it all together. Front doors are always an important focal point, and this door has a wonderful stained glass window in an oval design of lilies, landscape, and delicate border. Staining the interior trim gives the house a warm homey feeling, yet the printed all and floor papers make it light and fun. Another addition was the fireplace. A lovely one from England with a nice slim profile. To carry through the terra cotta, more of the same bricks made for the outside were used on the base and surround area. The staircase was moved to the other side of the house and a second staircase was added to the third floor. In doing the gardens and flower selections, the color choices were very important. The green moss usually used was to "green" and had to be changed to a more light spring green color. The colors in the flowers are strong and add another layer to the design, yet they do not take away from, or overpower the house. For this reason coordinating all the garden colors with the house was a challenge.

I decided to make a tiny dollhouse for my dollhouse. It's 1/144 scale. And the inspiration is from Iris's cottage in the movie The Holiday. The little dollhouse is 2 1/4" across x 1 3/4" deep x 3 1/8" tall(2 3/4" to the top of the roof). I used 1/32" birch wood. 3 fireplace mantels inside I made a table, chair, rugs, bed, armoire and an itty bitty dollhouse. I had to make a messy bed! I covered the exterior with concrete that I carved with a toothpick for a stone look. Thanks for stopping by!

HOW IT ALL BEGAN Sally’s Lundby Gothenburg dollhouse was a Christmas gift from her parents in the early 1970s. She fondly remembers many happy hours playing with it as a child. Years later, she and her dad lovingly restored it and began adding custom extensions to accommodate Sally’s expanding furniture collection. The house—now a sprawling eight-story tower—measures just shy of 5 feet (1.5 meters) across. A BRIEF TOUR The original Lundby sections are the top two floors and the living/TV room and formal lounge on Level 5. The rest was designed by Sally and constructed by her dad in various phases. Wherever possible they used Lundby parts purchased on eBay (doors, windows, balustrades, staircases, and more), seamlessly blending the new with the original. They started by adding a two-story basement to the original house to create a garden area with a balcony, billiard room, and indoor space for the swimming pool. Phase 2 saw the addition of Level 3 and the two levels at the bottom right, including the garage, utility room with WC at the rear, bar, and garden terrace off the kitchen. Sally adapted an original Lundby balcony for use in this level. Level 4 features an outdoor patio area and a family/game room, as well as a landing, second bathroom, and office with adjoining conservatory. Level 5 includes the girls’ bedroom and above it on Level 6 are the parents’ suite and boys’ bedroom. A CREATIVE TOUCH Some of the furniture and unique accessories you see throughout Sally’s amazing house were created by Sally herself. She made the billiard table from a 12th scale dining table, adding molding around the edges and gluing a piece of green carpet on top. The cues are made from wooden barbecue skewers and the balls are colored beads. The green suite to the right of the billiard table was a damaged Barton/Caroline’s Home set that Sally re-covered to match the other furnishings. The washing machine is made from a small cardboard box covered in glossy photographic paper. The round door is made from window acetate and a key ring, and the control panel is a piece of dark cardboard with silver beads for the buttons. The bed and bedding and wardrobe unit in the parents’ bedroom are made from small wood off-cuts, fabric, and sticky-back plastic with a woodgrain effect. The cabin bed/high sleeper in the girls’ bedroom is made from wood off-cuts and a 12th scale bedside cabinet. Sally also made the girls’ patchwork bedding and the curtains in all the rooms. The patio heater on the top floor balcony has a parasol made from a cocktail umbrella. Sally made the weight bench in the family/game room using bits of wood and dowel. The weights are vehicle wheels that she purchased from a model shop and attached to a section of welding rod. She finished it off with two Lundby floor cushions. A WORK IN PROGRESS Sally finds her dollhouse project to be very therapeutic and satisfying, and her passion for it has grown over time. So have her ideas and inspiration! Her latest addition—now in progress—is a ground floor stable area.
Just when you thought you had visited the best dollhouse ever, it is hard to imagine that there could be an even better one. There is! Kathleen's new dollhouse is bigger and has been modernized just enough to make it completely livable for today's fairies;-) Here is the new kitchen with some updated cabinets yet it still retains it's homey charm. I love the nursery under the eaves just above the kitchen. To give you an idea of the size and detail of this dollhouse, here is that same kitchen wing from the outside. All the utilities are in . There is a charming kitchen garden just steps away. The detailing on the outside is every bit as impressive as it is on the interior. I just showed you the kitchen wing, here is the rest of the house. Kathleen has gained a proper entry and foyer. Her living room is no longer cut up by the stairway to to the second floor, giving her more wall space in that room. She also has a larger formal dining room than she did before. Here is a close up of Kathleen's new kitchen. The additional cabinet space gives her more storage and more work surface too. Notice that butcher block. Love it! I am crazy about the finishes too ~ bead board, the brick behind the vintage Roper stove and the sweet yellow wallpaper. But the best way for me to give you the scope and detail of the entire house is to share this video with you. Keep in mind that this dollhouse was not built from a kit. It was designed and constructed for Kathleen by her husband. (I love this man!!! ) It took him three years to complete in his garage. David ~ are you taking notes here??? David is my husband :-) The project was started in November of 2011 and was ready for it's final inspection and move in this month. I hope you have enjoyed this tour of Kathleen's dollhouse as much as I have enjoyed sharing it with you! Again my thanks to Kathleen for allowing me to share her beautiful home with you. She is truly an inspiration and a lovely friend. I am planning a post that will feature some of the artists who create fabulous miniatures such as these because I know many of you have dollhouses or are now smitten and want to build one too. There are some very talented miniaturists I will introduce you to and also give you some great resources for buying miniatures. Keep in mind that Kathleen has been collecting minis for twenty-five years and many of hers would be hard to duplicate. A beautiful dollhouse is an investment of both money and time. My theory is to start collecting for one room at a time and before you know it you will be on your way! Bentley and I wish you a happy weekend and beautiful dollhouse dreams. Say G'Day Big Texas Hugs, Susan and Bentley

Hi Everyone I completely forgot to post pictures of the first Cardboard House I created last month in April. I was inspired by a picture I found on the right that another miniature enthusiast had created. So I had to try and see if I could make the San Francisco looking house myself using cardboard. It took me about 2 weeks to complete in my free time and Days of cutting cardboard strips with scissors. I thought my fingers were going to fall off with thousands of cuts to create the siding and windows and shingles. Ii didn't want to make an exact copy of the house but to give it my own touch. I think it turned out really cool looking and is so lightweight and the cardboard is so sturdy and hard once it was glued down. I really loved using the cardboard, it was a great medium to use. I hope you all enjoy! Me trying to get my walls to look like the small picture I had to create the house from. One small pile of cardboard strips and hours of cutting.
