Dr. Propolus is the moniker of Austrian-Moroccan illustrator and filmmaker Ilias Walchshofer, who is based in Berlin. The artist takes found fashion spread and celebrity photography and adds flourishes of humor and intricate accessories with his signature black and white linework. Whether adding woodland animals, extra clothing, or something mythical in nature, these additions often change the entire tone of each original piece.
Matte print on archival photo paper.
These are rough sketchbook doodles I did of cute greeting card style illustrations. With offensive words in my handwriting.

This is just a rough draft of a project I'm working on for a class. I plan to shoot 15 or so organic foods (primarily fruits and vegetables) in this exact manner. The goal is to shoot them so they appear to be more like a two-dimensional surface rather to highlight their symmetrical and geometrical designs when cut in half. I plan on making a hardcover coffee table book out of these, accompanying text with the images with factoids (e.g. How many antioxidants are found within pomegranate, or something along those lines). I became interested in these foods when I had been diagnosed with cancer, thinking that how "perfect" the foods looked would somehow help me overcome my sickness when I ate them.
Definition taken from http://www.zentangle.com/about-theory.php "There is no eraser in life and there is no eraser in Zentangle. However, in Zentangle (and in life), you discover that even if you make what seems to be a mistake, you can then build on that event as a new pattern and go in unexpected and exciting new directions." I am in love with creating zentangles. The "flower" was supposed to resemble the sun but that didn't happen. But as with the definition above, there was no eraser to go back and "redraw" it but I built on it to create a new pattern... I have been admiring other zendoodles on http://www.flickr.com/ and there are some that resemble the shape of a turtle, or a dolphin, or mushrooms. I find myself wanting to have a mushroom patch of my own so the title of my #4 zentangle is All Mushrooms Aren't Ugly... For my fifth one I had a very fague idea of the "ice cream cone" and the "flower ribbon behind the cone" because I was in a very juvenile girlie girl mode. I didn't know how anything else was going to turn out. When I ended up drawing the "grid pattern with the dots" it looked like the floor of the ice cream parlor, hence the name Ice Cream Parlor... Zentangles have opened yet another creative outlet for me plus they have shown me a meditative side that I never knew I had. As you are reading this pick up a black pen and just start doodling, you may be surprised at what transpires onto paper.

I haven't shown you the work of other illustrators for a while. That's not right!!! Let me correct the situation and show you the work of Lee Wildish! He is a modern British illustrator. Here is his Website, if you would like to have a look at his published books. I love his style! It is simple, colourful, very expressive, it is textured and FUNNY!!! I respect "funny" the most!!! I think it is a great gift to be able to make people smile! Especially children, because they are much stricter and more honest judges, that's for sure! Anyway, enough talk, just have a look!!
